Rude reception

I’ve been travelling almost for three months with this ship, never thought of writing a review, but today is the day. 2026-09-24 Finncanopus Kapellskär - Naantali. Service is always top notch here, but today is different. Receptionist is so rude, didn’t even let me finish my sentence, was more rude than a rude. I can’t believe it myself, but here we go. I asked if there’s any possibility to travel alone, other receptionist would give you to choose either to travel alone or with a roommate. I hate snoring so I value peace and quiet. After asking if there’s any possibilty to change something she didn’t even let me finish my sentence and just fast reply from her was come back later. But with extreme anger in her face. It’s so unprofessional, very bad experience. I get it, when you have a bad day, but you are dealing with customers, which are obviously people, you should leave your angers behind doors. If you’re travelling with Finnlines be very careful with receptionist.

terrible experience

terrible experience. had to show up AT LEAST one hour before departure. once on board I realized there was no free wifi, which is absurd for a 6 hour travel. prices on board were pretty high too. wouldn't reccomend at all, awful.

Trip cancellation

We had to cancel our trip due to an abrupt death of a close family member. No refund, credit,Flexibility or transfer of the trip was given. In fact there were no options given. I would not recommend using this transport service due to the very poor customer service.

Hej Elizabeth, we regret that you experienced our customer service this way. Our ticket conditions depend on the fare booked, and not every ticket allows a refund, credit or transfer. That said, serious personal situations are always difficult, and we understand that this felt especially frustrating.

If you would like us to look at the case again, please send your booking number and details to feedback@finnlines.com. We hope we can welcome you on board under better circumstances in the future.

Thanks for the 5 stars, Miska. Good to hear that our crew could help when timing got tight. Travelling by motorcycle has its own little challenges, and we’re glad you still made it on board. We hope to welcome you again soon.

Not such a pleasant first experience with Finnlines

Traveled by car from Travemünde to Malmö with the Finnpartner (dep. 22.00h). It is an outdated ship. Cabin was spacious and clean, but facilities are poor. Bad wifi for an expensive price. Only one snack (toasti) at the bar. Finnlines asked me to come on-time to the check-in but then Finnlines let you wait a very long time to embark the ship. All the trucks and trailers go first. Disembarkation in Malmö was a complete disaster. It took me in total 1h45m to leave the harbour. The disembarkation of the ship took already a very long time and after that you have to cue behind all the trucks that are checked by the Swedish customs. Although, this is outside the scope of Finnlines, Finnlines should find a better way to transport passengers cars on their ships so they can embark before the trucks. There is hardly any custom control for passenger cars. Due to this delay I almost missed my onward connection in Stockholm to Helsinki. I have bought a return ticket, but I hesitate to go back to Travemünde with Finnlines once again.

We regret that your first trip with us left this impression, Arthur. Good to hear that the cabin was spacious and clean, but of course we would have liked the overall experience to feel smoother.

The Finnpartner is a working ferry used for both passengers and freight, and loading or unloading depends on vehicle position, safety procedures and port operations. Trucks may move first in some situations, but that does not mean passenger cars are less important to us. Customs checks after arrival are handled by the authorities and can unfortunately affect the time it takes to leave the harbour.

If you would like to send us more details, please contact us with your booking number at feedback@finnlines.com. We hope your return trip gives you a better Finnlines experience.

Finnlines must really hate their customers

Finnlines as a company must really hate their customers. The personnel is friendly, but these three complaints will tell you all you need to know about Finnlines' attitude towards their customers:

Internet (1/2): The ship uses a mobile 5G antenna via satellite connection (Telenor Maritime) that turns on automatically in international waters. If you have automatic network selection on, your phone will switch to this network as it will be stronger than any land based connection you may still have. Beware of this, as it can result in a BIG premium through your phone provider. All this happens without warning.

Internet (2/2): €7 for an hour and €20 for 6 hours of mediocre WiFi Internet usage is outrageous for 2025.

Meal offering: the buffet itself is (mostly) of good offering. But the opening times and the times in between are another Finnlines-trick: the breakfast and lunch are combined into one 'brunch' that 'you may visit twice', but the time (09:30-12:30) is so short that it effectively does not work as a full breakfast AND full lunch. 09:30 is too late to start breakfast and 12:30 too early to close lunch. With the dinner at 18:30, the time in between is then such that most people aer basically forced to also use the expensive cafeteria option. This is bizarre, considering the price of the meal package. Also: if you have a second dinner on board, you can expect the soda machines to be covered. Because, yes, Finnlines wants to collect the few cents they save that way as well (or they hope you will visit the bar again...).

Cabins: just like the rest of the ferry, the cabins clearly show the age of the ship. They are comfortable enough, but not up to today's standards and definitely not up to what one might expect from the pricing. The cleanliness is another problem: on my outbound journey, my toilet was still full of someone's piss.

For me, this is a once, but never again. Even when the only alternative is a long drive through the Baltics or Sweden.

Hi there, thank you for sharing your experience. We’re sorry to hear that you were this disappointed with your trip, even though you found our crew friendly. Let me address your points briefly and clearly.

Mobile network & satellite charges:
Unexpected roaming fees are frustrating, no question. But the satellite connection at sea is an external service and the charges come directly from each passenger’s own mobile provider. We inform about this clearly online, because we want guests to avoid unwanted costs. Unfortunately, we have no influence on the pricing and do not earn anything from it.

WiFi on board:
The WiFi is also an external satellite-based service with running operational costs. We understand the price feels high, but again – this is not something we profit from.

Brunch concept:
It’s correct that the meal is not designed as a full breakfast and a full lunch, but as a brunch with different items and the option to visit twice. We understand that this doesn’t suit everyone’s preference. (As a side note: the concept will change in 2026.)

Soda machines:
We can’t relate to the claim that machines are "covered" during dinner. There are multiple drink stations available at the buffet, and if something runs out, the crew is always happy to help immediately.

Cabins & cleanliness:
Our ships have been operating for several years, but they are continuously modernised. Cleanliness should still always be at a good standard. If something wasn’t right, we hope the crew was informed – they solve these things quickly on board.

Again, we're very sorry to hear that your journey left such a negative impression.

Disappointing experience on 10h ferry

On a almost 10-hour ferry trip with Finnlines, traveling with two children, I was deeply disappointed by the lack of accommodations and crew conduct. I tried to nap on a couch to rest before a 10-hour drive but was abruptly told by crew that sleeping there was not allowed. No cabin was offered for the outbound trip, unlike the return, leaving us without a proper place to rest. This was exhausting for my family, and the crew’s lack of consideration was frustrating

Hi Samir,
Thank you for your review.

Travelling with children on a longer crossing can be demanding – especially in combination with a long drive. We regret that the journey didn’t offer the level of comfort you had hoped for.

As part of our onboard policy, rest areas like couches in public spaces are not intended for sleeping. We understand this may feel strict in the moment, but it’s part of ensuring a shared space remains usable for all guests. Cabins for day crossings are optional and not automatically included unless booked in advance – we recommend this especially for travellers who need to rest during the journey.

We're sorry to hear that the crew interaction felt abrupt – that’s not how it should come across, even when rules are being enforced.

Thanks again for travelling with us.
We hope to welcome you on board again under more relaxed circumstances.

Very nice transport option between uncentral ports

Took a ferry between Naantali and Kapellskär. Probably best by car because it's a hassle to get to and from both ports by foot, albeit possible. The cabin was nice. For a good night's sleep and the transport, the price was good. It's possible to get up onto deck, and there's quite some stores, food options, and entertainment.

Hej Leonard!
Thanks for your review – great to hear the cabin and overall travel experience between Naantali and Kapellskär worked well for you.
You're right: both ports are located outside the city centres, and the connection is definitely more convenient by car. That said, we're glad the onboard comfort and value matched your expectations.
Hope to welcome you on board again soon!
