I visited first vets on Chillingham Rd Newcastle with my cat. He got neutered and micro chipped. I was really happy with the full service giving. They kept me updated on how he was doing etc. The lasses on the reception are polite and helpful. The vet who gave my cat the procedure was lovely too. I would highly recommend taking your pet here.
I used FirstVet through my ManyPets insurance before they switched providers, and honestly I can’t recommend FirstVet highly enough.
I was absolutely gutted when ManyPets moved away from them, as the difference in quality compared to the replacement service has been huge. I’m now genuinely considering either paying for FirstVet separately or moving to an insurance provider that offers it.
Every interaction I had with FirstVet was professional, reassuring and genuinely helpful. The vets gave detailed advice, took time to listen properly, and never made me feel rushed or dismissed and followed up in writing with all the detail after. Even when they advised seeing my in-person vet, it was in addition to a lot of advice they had provided already and it felt thoughtful and clinically reasoned rather than just a generic default response.
I don't remember having any issues with the platform so surprised to see some of the comments here.
It really felt like a service run by people who genuinely cared about both pets and owners.
Can’t recommend them enough.
Very quick to get an appointment in the middle of the night. Dr Dudek was fantastic and was thorough in questioning, supporting me to examine my cat to give her more information. The advice and plan given was thorough and covered multiple options. Thank you ever so much for the help!
We had a video call with DR Cato as our cat ‘wasn’t right’ She was fantastic and thorough with the online assessment. I got a video call within half an hour of requesting one and the advice she gave was to visit the emergency vet which we did. Turns out our cat has pancreatitis. This service does not take away from a proper vet visit but from this experience definitely backs up why i was worried. Definitely would use again. Thank you
Have used these through my insurance, many pets. You’re meant to have a 15 minute call, though both times I’ve used them it’s been no longer than 5 minutes and they barely even look at your dog before giving a diagnosis. No opportunity to ask questions before they’re quickly ending the call. I now see many pets have changed provider which I don’t find surprising.
We took our eldely cat to be put to sleep after they found a tumour on her jaw which was bleeding. There was no attempt to calm her and she was visably shaking as they shaved her leg. There was no sedation and they seemed just to be in a hurry. After over 20 years with these vets we would not go back even though they have been so good in the past.

We had our first experience of FirstVet after our dog raided his treat cupboard and ate a packet of salmon skins, we did not know if he had eaten a deoxidiser pouch so rang for advice.
Dr Bain called us back and was amazing. The service is not a replacement for a visit to the vets, but they don't claim this. Dr Bain was able to take a look at our dog, asked us about key things and researched the potential harm that could be caused by the pouch.
Previous posters have said its prevented unnecessary trips and in our case enabled us to make the trip to the vets, informed and with a journal of the conversation.
We were really impressed with the compassion and care shown by Dr Bain.
The app worked fine for us and is really useful.
Thanks for Vet Kine Burshtein
She is very professional and patient, she gave me good advice, and useful information for my cats condition. I will recommend to others this APP. Tusen Takk!!
Horrifically unreliable app. Part of my ManyPets policy. Trying to log in to make an out of hours vet appointment to be constantly told that it can’t find my policy details, so I’m trying to reset and it keeps saying ‘Server Unreachable’ when sending a pin to my mobile and to contact Customer Support, who open 9am to 5pm. I can’t get past it unless I pay for the appointment. Really and truly useless in this moment. Every time I’ve needed to use the app I’ve had problems with it, but as someone else has said it doesn’t have a problem with spamming pointless notifications. Is this an intentional way of forcing people to pay for the service rather than use their policy benefit.

I love this service. It is included with my pet insurance. I’ve only had to use it twice but both times have been excellent. Tech works well, good advice from vet and follow up. So convenient and easy especially for my cat who doesn’t like getting in his carrier for trips to the vet if we can avoid it.
So impressed! The vet was very knowledgeable, we felt reassured and it was a quick and easy call, highly recommended!
Very disappointed with FirstVet. The service is basically useless.
All they can do is tell you whether your pet’s symptoms sound like an emergency or not. That’s it.
They cannot diagnose anything, they cannot recommend any specific medications, and they are not allowed to prescribe anything.
It felt like paying just to be told "go to a vet or wait and see." I expected professional guidance, but it was more like a triage hotline. Definitely not worth the money.

I made an appointment for my cat who was suffering from a long-standing eye issue, as I wanted a prescription. And there comes the con: the vets on FirstVet cannot issue prescriptions! Just tea and sympathy. Absolutely useless. They should make it clear all they can do is give advice.

We have access to FirstVet via our pet insurance (with Many Pets). We've used the service twice now and have been very satisfied both times. The concept is great - by speaking with the video vet we've avoided two unnecessary in-person vets appointments, which A) we'd have had to pay for, B) would have caused the cats distress, and C) would have taken over an hour and a half out of both of our days (we always attend vets appointments together). With FirstVet, we only need one of us to take the appointment and the cats are comfortable in their own home.
We've actually spoken with the same lady both times (Dr. Malu) and she is wonderful. She is thorough and does a great job of reassuring us. She asks a range of questions and patiently listens to everything you have to say. She then does a visual check of the cat in question and is again very patient when you're wrangling the cat into position.
I particularly like that everything is kept within the single app. All of your pet records, appointment notes, advice and recommendations etc. Appointments are generally available within half an hour of opening the app, but it's completely your choice as to which vet you see and at what time suits you. It makes for a really slick experience that also doubles up as a dated record of events that you can share with your actual vet if needed.
FirstVet was the added value service on my insurance that I didn't know I needed. I now wouldn't take out another policy that didn't include access. It feels like an excellent safety net that I can keep in my back pocket. Highly recommend.
Had an appointment with Dr Louise Cox-O’Shea, as our dog had a small lump. The information and advice given was helpful and gave us a clear idea, of what we need to do.
This is a great service and we will use again, if required.
Wonderful
Excellent experience overall.
Received this service as part of my insurance. My pup was ill yesterday, vomiting and not able to defacate. Was quite worried, thought I'd give this a go as an alternative to rushing to the vets.
In my experience, the app doesn't send a pin code through unless you are off wifi and on your phone network, so if you have trouble activating the app try turning off wifi first.
As I had issues, it was a phone call rather than a video call. The Vet (Emma) phoned me on time and went through several questions and gave great advice which helped my pup immediately. I'm very thankful for such a good service and the advice given being spot on even without the need for video.
Our Cockapoo, Pablo has been ill over the last few days being unable to hold down his food and being lethargic in himself which is completely unlike him. To avoid paying out of hours fees to attend our actual vet, we tried FirstVet in the first instance to see whether they had any advice.
We spoke to Dr Ines Nunes and she was brilliant. She listened to all of our concerns and provided a response of what we need to look out for over the coming days, as well as an action plan of how to help him get better.
I then arranged a follow up call 3 days later and was (virtually) seen by Dr Ines Nunes once more. Again, she was incredibly informative and put my mind at ease on some reoccurring concerns that I had about Pablo.
I'm glad to say that Pablo is now on the mend after following Dr Nunes' advices so I can't thank her enough.
I would highly recommend using FirstPet, whether their services are included in your insurance or whether you just need some virtual advice. Not only did their plan of action help our dog get better, but it also saved us a very expensive visit to the vets!
Had to contact FirstVet when our 8yo rescue dog, Ollie, was vomiting copiously at 11.30pm last night . They are available through our insurance policy. Got a return call appointment within 15mins and spoke to Dr Rebekah D who was so lovely, kind and reassuring. She got us to show her Ollie's gum colour, palpate his tummy, check his ears for a high temp and asked many questions. Then explained it looked like gastritis. Recommended a course of action but to return to her if he continued to be sick. This was folliwed up with an email detailing all our discussion from the call. We made another follow up request for a consult because although much recovered in himself he had had one more vomiting episode. She came back to us within 15mins. Explained what she thought it may be, after another visual and verbal exam of him, and suggested an alternative course of action. This was then immediately followed by an email again, explaining her recommendations. So reassuring when we were worried sick. Highly recomnended.
Contacted firstvet for 1st time as our 17 week old puppy had a rash on her tummy, completely put our minds at rest, very professional and helpful. They emailed details of our call including any treatments that were advised. Overall could not fault and would not hesitate to use the service again.
