Full of dark patterns

Beware: they’ll happily provide you with a car whose tank is only 3/4 full, but if you return it with just 1 liter missing, they’ll charge you €38. To make matters worse, their app shows different starting fuel levels depending on which screen you’re looking at.

And of course, if you return the car with more fuel than it had when you picked it up, you won’t get any refund.

I also had another nice surprise with them: they hadn’t paid for the parking, so when I picked up the car, I ended up being stuck at the exit gates and had to pay the parking fee myself. They eventually refunded me three weeks later.

I was charged an additional €367.56 for…

I was charged an additional €367.56 for alleged scratches to the bumper that I do not believe occurred while the car was in my possession.
There was no visible damage when I returned the vehicle. The photos provided with the charge are low resolution and do not clearly establish the damage or when it occurred.
I have also tried repeatedly to contact the company for an explanation, but their customer support has been virtually non-existent.
Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend avoiding this company.

Hello Anthony,

Thank you for your message, and we're sorry to hear about your concern regarding this charge.

We have carefully reviewed your file, and here is what our records show:

The vehicle rented to you was brand new, you were its very first user, and it had no prior damage of any kind. It was returned with several significant scratches on the front bumper. These are clearly documented in the damage report sent to you, which includes a high-resolution photo that shows the damage distinctly.

The vehicle was inspected just 7 minutes after the end of your rental, leaving no room for the damage to have occurred afterwards.

We have also checked all of our communication channels, and we have not received any email or message from you regarding this matter.

We would genuinely be happy to go through your file with you. Please feel free to write to us at contact@govirtuo.com, and we'll be glad to discuss it directly.

Kind regards,
The Virtuo team

Terrible experience with Virtuo.

Terrible experience with Virtuo.

I was charged €185 for alleged damage to the front right alloy wheel, even though Virtuo’s own vehicle condition report already documented “Front alloy wheel right damaged” under the initial vehicle conditions before my rental. I can provide a screenshot from their own PDF report showing this clearly.

In other words, they charged me for damage that their own documentation shows was already present.

What makes this even worse is the way the dispute has been handled. I contacted their support three separate times, clearly explained the situation, and referred them to their own report. Instead of properly reviewing the evidence and resolving the case, they simply ignored my dispute.

Charging a customer for pre-existing damage is unacceptable. Ignoring repeated complaints when your own documentation contradicts the charge is even worse.

I am still waiting for the €185 to be refunded and for Virtuo to explain how this charge was approved in the first place.

Hello Egor,

Thank you for your message, and we're sincerely sorry for this experience.

You're right, and we apologise for the error. This kind of situation is genuinely rare, we do everything we can to prevent it, but on this occasion a charge was wrongly applied for damage that had already been documented before your rental. What matters most to us is putting it right, and we can confirm that the €185 has now been refunded to you.

Thank you for your patience and for bringing this to our attention. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again under much better circumstances.

Kind regards,
The Virtuo team

What went well

What went well? The onboarding experience. The concept is pretty cool to have a rental car that you can fully set up before you leave and take as if it were your car at the airport.

What doesn’t work?

First, the fact your key is your phone means you need to bring a power pack with you to not get locked out

they’re not checking the cars properly between two customers: my car had an engine failure light on as I took it as well as an under inflated tire

Third, I was charged for fuel, even though I gave back the car at full fuel, and there is no way to properly set to reclamation and get an answer on the app- as soon as you do, you get no answer and cannot follow up on the claim

As much as I like the concept, this is not the right company to apply it

Hello David,

Thank you so much for this detailed and thoughtful review, we're really glad the onboarding and the overall concept won you over.

A few clarifications that may help:

On the key: everything indeed happens through the app, as that's the heart of the Virtuo experience. That said, you can charge your phone directly in the car, and for anyone who prefers a physical key, we also offer a card (the size of a credit card) onto which you can transfer your key, so you're never dependent on your phone.

On the warning lights and the under-inflated tyre: this is absolutely not normal, and we sincerely apologise. This isn't the kind of experience we want our customers to have, and we take this feedback seriously.

On the fuel charge: it can happen that the fuel level doesn't update immediately at the end of a rental, which may trigger an automatic charge. We can see, however, that our support team has already resolved this for you.

We're truly sorry if we fell short on this occasion, and we'd love the chance to welcome you back on board a Virtuo, to show you that the experience you had is quite different from the one we usually offer.

Kind regards,
The Virtuo team

BEWARE THE VIRTUAL BRICK WALL WHEN PROBLEMS ARISE

We were forced to spend a night in a Paris hotel when the system would not release our key code despite being validated. Virtuo refused to accept responsibility for this though they did not charge us for the half day of rental lost. Beware also steep charges if the car is not returned to exactly the same place it was picked up from or for fuel if not fully refilled.

Virtuo car rental at Marseille Provence Airport Bad Experience

We hired a car at Marseille Provence Airport arriving at 11pm on 1 July 2026. It took us 1hr 20mns to find the car and only with the aid of a security guard. The colour of the car was not given , and the photos provided were out of date and replaced several months ago. I raised this with Virtuo but they were not interested . When we returned thcar on 29 July the same signage and indications were given . I complained to Virtuo. A chat agent comes online , fobs you off and I have heard nothing since. I had other problems with the car during rental. I will not use them again and will tell my friends to avoid them . There is no support during or after rental.

Cleaning Fee

Virtuo will find a way to charge you. They hit me with a £90 cleaning fee, allegedly for "very dirty conditions," backed by a single photo of some crumbs sent a full week after the rental.

Hello Luís,

Thank you for your feedback.

We only apply a cleaning fee when there is clear evidence of damage beyond normal use, and always in line with the rental terms. In this case, the front passenger seat of this brand-new vehicle was returned with heavy staining that our team was unable to remove, which is why the £90 charge was applied, along with the supporting photos.

We understand this wasn't the outcome you were hoping for, and we thank you for your understanding.

Taking legal action against Virtuo

Standard response to previous review. Their system is flawed. I have reported my identity theft and virtuo to the police.
Virtuo remain uncontactable. Can't reach them by phone. They ignore repeated emails. I have started legal action against this company.

Hello Thomas,

Thank you for your message. We understand your frustration and take these matters very seriously.

As set out in our previous reply, a full review of your file confirmed that the rental was created through an account that successfully completed our identity verification and rental validation process, including a driving licence provided and validated in line with our procedures. The vehicle usage is recorded and linked to that rental agreement, and the related charges were handled in accordance with our Terms and Conditions.

In the interest of full transparency, we should also let you know that this rental was entered into with Virtuo Technologies, an entity that has since ceased its activity. Virtuo is now operated by a new company, MobTech, which is separate from the previous structure. For this reason, our ability to act on a contract concluded under the former entity is unfortunately limited.

If you believe you are the victim of identity theft, reporting it to the authorities remains the right step, and we will of course cooperate fully with any official request addressed to us.

Kind regards.

Absolutely great experience with Virto

Everything was handled online through the app, which made the whole process very smooth and convenient. The app provided clear information and step-by-step guidance for the rental, including the car’s location in the car park, the initial inspection, and the return process.

I really appreciated that no credit card was required, and I was able to pay easily with Apple Pay. There was also no need to go to any rental desk — the car was ready in the car park right in front of the terminal at Nice Airport. The parking fee was reimbursed afterwards without any issue.

The car was practically brand new, very clean, and had modern equipment, including wireless CarPlay. I also liked the option to add zero excess insurance and extra kilometres. The deposit was returned quickly, as it was only a card pre-authorisation.

Overall, it was a great experience during our holiday in Provence, and I can highly recommend Virtuo.

Virtuo: The AI slop of car rentals.

Do not use Virtuo unless you’re 100% confident nothing will go wrong. If you need support, the app doesn’t work. You will be stuck talking to a chatbot in an infinite loop with no way to talk to a real person. I was stuck in a cold car park unable to access our car, which ultimately meant I had to cancel our Airbnb and find alternative accommodation at my expense, with no refund for my Airbnb.

Virtuo are beyond useless. It’s the AI slop of car rental. Go with a company with real people not chatbots.

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for your feedback.

After reviewing your account, we noticed that the required documents (driving licence and identity document) were not submitted in their valid original format prior to the start of your rental, which is necessary to validate your profile.

We had also sent you an email before the beginning of your booking regarding this requirement. However, instead of the requested documents, we received a photo of your driving licence, which unfortunately cannot be accepted for verification purposes.

As a result, your profile could not be validated in time, which is why access to the vehicle could not be granted.

We are sorry for the inconvenience and regret that you were unable to proceed with your rental.

Kind regards,
Virtuo Customer Support

I’d give 0 of I could

I’d give 0 of I could. Wrongly got a debt company to chase me on 2024, who then apologised and said they closed the account. Now received same chasing emails in 2026 only again to be told they were incorrect and they have closed my account. Incompetent and broken cars. Please do not use or do so at your peril

Hi Helen,

We are sorry to read your review and understand your frustration regarding the debt collection correspondence you received.

To clarify, the matter you refer to relates to a legacy account with Virtuo Technologies, a company that has since entered liquidation. While the Virtuo brand continues to operate, the business is now carried out by a different legal entity, and we do not manage the debts or claims relating to the former company.

We appreciate that receiving further correspondence regarding a matter you believed to be resolved was concerning. Following our review, we have provided you with clarification regarding our position and the appropriate party to contact should you wish to challenge the claim.

Kind regards.
