You will struggle to contact them. They do not provide a platform you can log in to see your documentation or make any changes on your policy. You need to contact them and it always takes ages. If you send them an email, they do not reply. It's like dealing with person who takes tings on but then disappears.

After being with them for 4-5 years, I called to ask them a question about whether a particular client of ours was covered. They responded by declining to renew our policy in entirety. We have been completely clear about our work (engineering) since being a customer; they accepted that was fine but if you have one customer they're concerned about, then they cannot insure you at all.
We're now scrambling to find cover from other insurers. Be aware that they can walk away at any moment.

Have been insured with hiscox for 20 years. First time I call them about a potential claim - a tree fallen on two of our cars - they are utterly hopeless. Didn’t even know if it was covered.
They eventually called me back the next day. Turns out they don’t cover you for this damage for a fallen tree or even the clean-up BUT they do cover you for a hole-in-one. So if you’re a golfer by all means use Hiscox but if you’re a homeowner forget it.

Hiscox insurance is a scam. Hiscox is a scam.
Upon being missold core legal protection cover by Hiscox, in the call (all calls are recorded), I asked specific questions, stating, "Am I covered in case of XYZ?" Now XYZ seems to have occurred. They have told me it's with a third-party covering company called Arag Law. Arag Law has told me it's not with them, it's with Arag LEI, and they have said, "No, it's with Arag Law." The three entities are scammers.
This is particularly dangerous because I provided all evidence, screenshots, emails, and so many other pieces of evidence for all companies, and yet they still said there isn't enough to recover funds. They are absolute scammers. Regardless of all the evidence I sent them, they are scammers. Do not work with Hiscox. Do not work with Arag Law or Arag LEI, which is also a scam. They're all scammers. The three entities are scammers.
They have also done this with many, many other individuals and many other companies. You can see this online. Search reviews on Arag Law and reviews on Hiscox.
These companies were playing tennis with me, back and forth for at least 3 to 4 months. Do not work with them. They are scammers.
I would like to name and shame Shaun Cox, simply because he's the customer relations person who called me today and stated that he saw no error. At the same time, in the same breath, he said he listened to the calls, heard me ask the questions, and heard the answers that his colleague had given. He actually said yes, I was essentially missold or sold a policy based on insufficient information, and essentially I was lied to.
I want nobody to work with Hiscox because they are hell. My understanding of what I'm seeing insurance companies do now: sell you a policy and hit quotas as to the number of policies they can actually claim on or chase. Do not work with Hiscox. They are a scam. Do not work with Arag Law because they are also a scam, and they are the third-party legal cover for Hiscox insurance.

I have insured my home with Hiscox since July 1999, paying substantial premiums every year and making very few claims.
In the same year Hiscox introduced a £10,000 excess for accidental damage and loss, it also increased my annual premium from £6,189.32 to £6,895.92. I was paying more while being expected to absorb the first £10,000 of any affected claim myself.
I discovered the excess when I claimed for a lost ring worth approximately £6,000. The result? No payout.
When I asked how such a significant change had been brought to my attention, the response was that it was in a renewal letter and I should have read it.
For an insurer selling specialist cover to high-net-worth households, that is an astonishing response. A change this substantial deserves clear, prominent communication, followed by proper care when a customer raises concerns.
After 27 years of paying premiums, I felt dismissed and blamed.
Hiscox increased the price, reduced my protection and then told me I should have read the letter. That is my experience of its premium service.

I pay Hiscox for insurance and peace of mind. When I actually needed urgent support, I was left feeling abandoned.
More than 70 hours after contacting their claims team, and despite repeated follow-ups, I have received only automated acknowledgements. No claims handler has contacted me or provided any guidance. Their acknowledgement stated that they would aim to contact me within 48 hours.
I explained that I am unable to make or receive telephone calls and need assistance by email. Despite making this clear, I am still waiting for a personal response.
When I tried to access the customer portal, it displayed a maintenance notice with no confirmed restoration date. I have also been unable to find the advertised webchat available whenever I have tried to use it.
After paying for this cover, having to chase repeatedly for basic support at an already stressful time is deeply disappointing. I expected someone to take ownership, acknowledge the urgency and explain what happens next.
This experience has seriously undermined my confidence in Hiscox.

I've been with Hiscox for years and never needed or asked for anything from them, even when I've had equipment stolen or damaged in the past. This time was different and through no fault of my own, I had some equipment stolen.
They have rejected my claim and my appeal, even with a police report and the venue I was shooting at providing evidence.
It honestly feels like I've been robbed twice.
If you're a photographer I would think very carefully about using Hiscox or avoid paying for contents insurance, because it's not worth the paper it's written on.

I was on a customer service call getting a quote with Arian and I have to say, the most professional and detailed call I have ever been on with customer service. Great personality and detail with the call and honest answers even when he couldn't give me advice on certain questions for legal reasons. Great quality and will definitely be using Hiscox for my insurance!

READ YOUR POLICY VERY CAREFULLY
HISCOX CANNOT BE TRUSTED THE
Wording is contrived and disshonest
We had been with hiscox for many years high fees; Expected good service!
Years in I asked about buildings insurance! Only to find out I had none which they then included and nearly doubled my policy
I had to make a claim using my "legal cover" which was mentioned in my policy ! GUESS WHAT ? Yes it wasnt the right sort of legal cover ! Then much later : -
High winds blew my gable end facia board off !
So put in a claim had a reply after many weeks they refused to pay out !
All very nice untill you come to make a claim!
Then on top of that I recieved a letter
with a signature with gender "woke" terms at the bottom.
To which I obviousely complained !
I have no objections whatsoever what anyone does (as long as no harm is commited) But on that subject "do not involve me" A reasonable request I would have thought !
Their response was "We are cancelling your insurance policy"
My very honest opinion! on all fronts Hiscox are untrustworthy company
AGAIN GET A SOLICITOR TO CHECK YOUR POLICY
HISCOX CANNOT BE TRUSTED !

My renewal quote was £6303 from Hiscox, and the competition all quoted around £2000 each.
Stunningly overcharging existing customers.
They offered to lower it. I said if it was free I still wasn't going with them.
Avoid as they cannot be trusted.
Yes it pays to shop around but in this busy world its not always possible and they take advantage...massively

Just spoken to a real human at Hiscox, who enabled me to change my cover, optimise the costs and was really friendly and helpful to boot.
No endless AI Chat-bots
No Automated Phone Hell (key in your 96 digit policy number)
Just great service

Hiscox cancelled my home insurance without my knowledge more than a year ago. I phoned twice and they said they were looking into it but I got no apology or explanation. The only communication I've had from them is emails demanding that I renew my direct debit and pay all the money back since my insurance was cancelled!

Hiscox is made up of an incompetent bunch of people. We recommend using an alternative insurance provider. They rely on online brokers such as Simply Business, and based on our experience, we have serious concerns about how policies are assessed and administered. We would strongly advise anyone considering them to exercise caution and look elsewhere.

I feel I need to write this review. We have just had to put a claim into Hiscox. I cannot say how grateful we are for how easy they made it for us. A simple, nice conversation with a lady called Anna. Then a reply to her email with the details & proof needed & with 48 hours Anna has emailed to let us know they have approved the claim & the money has been transferred. Thank you so much for making a rubbish situation so much better.

Called for a business insurance quote - customer service handler could not have been more helpful. Was pleasant to deal with and offered me a good price for my cover.

Awful experience with Underwriter making every attempt to deny a claim as part of an initial 30 minute interrogation call. She also provided wrong valuation of an asset for a relatively small claim but later apologised. Furthermore, she contacted my end client to ask further intrusive questions and continued to ask irrelevant questions to "valid claim". I found the underwriter very rude and certainly did not treat me fairly. Think twice about their services for business as this is now subject to a formal complaint.
