Very Good yyeeaaa
Experience as a scholarship student
It was a great experience as I met many industry professionals and grasped good knowledge on my career path. For example we had in-depth sessions on aerofoil and the theory of flight which was very interesting and informative with many hands on sessions. Everyone was very warm and friendly and I thoroughly enjoyed the activities and atmosphere. One downside was that I would have loved to have 2 weeks and more ucas information for university with the ucas points test to grasp more knowledge about how universities take applications but unfortunately they do not provide that for scholarship students. Overall it was a great one week
Good lessons especially on the…
Good lessons especially on the aerospace and the civil engineering days and lessons , I learned a lot and lots of good people to meet and talk to
Investin Psychology Summer Experience
The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful, and I felt very well supported through my time on the Psychology Summer Experience course. The course was incredibly varied, and included talks and interactive sessions from multiple industry professionals from different fields in psychology. The activities day to day were varied, including individual tasks, group work, presentations, and lectures - this made the course very engaging and I would definitely recommend it.
My experience with InvestIn
The InvestIN work experience programme was honestly so amazing! Every member of staff were so lovely and caring as well as very helpful when it came to any enquiries. The experience was so enjoyable and inspirational with all of the amazing content it had to offer. Im so glad I had the opportunity to complete this programme as its opened so many doors for me and my future.
For all considering this programme (pls read)
Let's just be honest: this is barely a work experience programme. Please do not see this as an internship. This is merely a summer school which teaches more career-related knowledge and provides a little bit of practical experience.
However, if you are just searching for a summer school to have some fun while learning a bit about your dream careers, this is not a bad experience at all. I joined the 2-week premium engineering summer programme and found the contents delivered just fine.
For the main programme content, some were very insightful and fun, such as lessons on aerodynamics and taking apart a petrol engine. Field trips to an airfield and a car plant were also very enjoyable. On the other hand, quite a few sessions were simply a waste of time, such as designing a so-called "mission to Mars", which involved no technical knowledge and realism. (I would say that about 30% of the content is useless.) Meanwhile, the huge cohort size (~150 people?) also limited individual participation and affected lesson qualities even though activities are held in small groups. Some "professionals" that taught us were indeed esteemed engineers, teaching well and providing great advice, but others clearly lacked such abilities. Overall I would say that there is a lack of technical knowledge taught, and a bit too much time is spent on activities.
For the premium programme content, it is a great opportunity to know people from other courses and potentially a great boost to your social skills. The personality tests, the town-planning challenge, and the gala dinner were great, but the other "career activities" lacked depth and clear purpose. (Yes, I know how to start a LinkedIn account, thank you very much.)
In terms of accommodation, I stayed in Garden Halls. The private room was cosy and clean, and there were sufficient facilities provided (you can google it). The catering is honestly not that bad, while I would certainly prefer outside food, it is definitely convenient, and the taste is acceptable. Free time is sufficient with proper sign-in/out systems, while the accommodation and campuses were easily accessible via public transport (I had enough time to visit a few major attractions). Evening activities are provided, but aside from the prom, most were ordinary activities such as sports and board games.
The staff were very helpful and friendly, providing great assistance as my travel plans were hindered. Pastoral care was also great with effective student monitoring yet sufficient privacy. (I felt safe and relaxed throughout the programme).
To conclude, this is not a bad summer school at all; it just definitely shouldn't be labelled as a "work experience" (I would say "career-orientated summer school")
Yes, it is a bit overpriced (£5000 for the full bundle would be a more acceptable price)
Yes, it is not a huge CV booster (paid programmes hardly ever are)
But yes, I felt more confident in my career aspirations after the programme. I also learnt some useful knowledge, gained quite a few skills, had a great time, and left with new friends and memories.
So.....3/5 (personal experience is a 4/5, but this review is for the programme quality only, so I'm taking new friends, personal socialising, and some pure luck outside consideration)
Thank you for taking time to read this heck of a yap
Don’t be intimidated
For me the experience was to try out someothing that could possibly be part of my future life. I began the experience with high expectations and left very satisfied. At first I was a bit nervous because of relationship building with other students, but from the vary start of the first day I realized that we were all in the experience for the same reasons and that we all shared a common interest. The other students and teachers were amazing and very kind always. I couldn’t be happier with what we all learnt together and believe that everyone interested in architecture should try this program out if they can.
Staff and User XP
The staff were always helpful and were keen to have a conversation with the students about their next steps after the programme, I have built so many new skills over 2 weeks and I am now confident to ask any questions and be able communicate with others better now then before. Really greatful for this opportunity, so go ahead and join!
A very accessible programme
The staff were supportive, nice to talk to and generally made the tasks easier and more accessible to interactive to make it more enjoyable. The programme behalf all around good speakers come in and talk in depth about complex topics in very and digestible way. Most importantly the activities felt well planned out and gave everyone a chance to interact with it in a meaningful way if they wanted to.
I really like the hands on activities…
I really like the hands on activities especially when we practiced making impressions if each others teeths as well as practicing splinting on phantom heads on the second to last day. I was enjoyed the lectures as it was very detailed and engaging. The staff was very nice as well. Something that could be improved may be the lunch meal arrangements as it may be costly to eat out everyday.
Young Engineering course is AWESOME!
I really enjoyed the first week as it was very interesting and the people were very good speakers. It was very interactive especially the civil engineering day. The next week was a bit more bland but overall I loved my 2 weeks. When I did premium on the weekend, I met many others that I bonded with and I loved all the tasks. This experience confirmed my interest in civil engineering 110%. Would recommend to anyone who wants to do engineering or is on the fence between architecture and engineering or if you just want to try. Only downside is that you’re going to essentially working for 12 days straight. However I will never forget this.
Forensic science
I did forensic science and stayed in the accommodation with InvestIn. Beth who ran the program and Heleana were absolutely amazing they were very inclusive and friendly they made each and every day fun and something new to look forward too. Sara who was one of the PALS in accommodation made my experience their something to look forward too everyday know I could go to her whenever and she would listen. I had a really bad allergic reaction whilst on lunch and I was able to go to staff and they were very helping by immediately calling others to come help they were very accommodating. I attended the premium gala dinner which was inclusive to all allergies. The premium gala allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and speak to new people and by the end of the night I had spoke to multiple people from different programs. I would deeply recommend InvestIn to those who are unsure what job then want to go in or to go to find out more about a specific job they want to go into the future.
InvestIN Young Forensic Scientist Summer Experience
I found the Forensics summer experience to be extremely informative. I joined the course with the intent to gain greater insight into future career paths, and I now feel far more confident with respect to which area of forensic science I would like to specialise in. Additionally, the staff were consistently welcoming and supporting, and I found all the subject experts to be extremely useful. I would certainly recommend this course to young students aged 15-17 years old.
Nice staff
The staff were all very nice and the tasks were all very interactive, everyone was very easy to talk to especially the intern - sophia and the dentists were very happy to answer questions
This experience was really made better…
This experience was really made better by Georgia's helpfulness over the last 2 weeks. Even when the task itself was not that enthralling she still managed to bring the level of enthusiasm up and has the ability to get everyone enganged in whatever the activity may be.
Investin Computer Science Course
I did the InvestIn computer science course and it was honestly amazing, i genuinely didn't think I was going to enjoy this course that much. I've talked to so many different people around the world and made many new friends. All the instructors are really helpful and fun and easy to interactive with. Special shout out to Kat and Naomi, who helped run the programme. They were so easy to talk to and made sure we enjoyed our programme while still being organised and completing things on time.
Psychologist summer experience
All the staff ( Carys, Manni, Jay) and pupils were really friendly and welcoming. I found the young psychologist program especially special due to all the interactive activities. They brought in actors to act out scenarios in different setting such as assessing a client with depression or acting as forensic psychologists.
Psychology InvestIn 2 week course
I completed the Psychology course that Alice organised and it was really fun and interesting to learn more about the different areas of psychology by getting varied input from professionals and carrying out practical tasks based off detailed case studies. The course was organised really well with rotations that made everything very interactive and interesting to stay focused even at the end of the day.
I really enjoyed this experience
I really enjoyed this experience. All of the InvestIn staff were amazing (especially Jay, Jasleen, Carrice and Alice). I found this really informative about each specific psychology field.
