Renewed CD despite cancellation request
Long time customer. Had substantial CD that was rolling over to maturity right before I left on an extended vacation. I logged into the portal and made a request to close the account at maturity. That never actually happened and in my travels I received a notice that they had renewed my CD. I immediately called and Marcus would not take any responsibility for the glitch and would not reverse a substantial penalty for early withdrawal. They have lost a customer and I would not do business with this company ever again.
Draw your money before going abroad.
Do not use your savings account while abroad they send a code which then times out and then they lock your account. If it's a weekend they are unavailable either by phone or email. Take enough money out of your account while in the UK before your trip. They left me high and dry while abroad last year so won't be doing that again.
Do not be drawn in by the good interest…
Do not be drawn in by the good interest rates on savings accounts… go elsewhere and save yourself time and stress.
I tried to open a savings account, but despite providing everything as asked for to prove where funds were coming from this was insufficient. I was asked to give more, which I did. Again rejected.
It turns out that the information asked for when logged on is different to what they say they need over the phone!
I was willing to give the additional info but was told I would need to re-submit evidence again as it’s got to be on one document. Despite having the option to upload more than one document!!! Absolute shower of s**t. Lots of time wasted on this plus time on the phone to them!! My fear is they can retain all my personal info (and believe me they have got pretty much all that they could have on someone) and this leaves me very vulnerable to fraud until their period of retaining ends.
I had a considerable amount of money to invest with them and I have many years of banking experience with multiple financial institutions and have never experienced such incompetence.
If it’s this difficult to open an account goodness knows what it would be like going forwards. Therefore I have admitted defeat and going elsewhere to somewhere that has a clue what they are doing.
Marcus as my cash ISA
Used Marcus as my cash ISA for a number of years. Always found it very clear and the annual summaries very good. Recently transferred to another ISA provider and this was actioned within 1-2 working days with the money cleared on the other side shortly after - so no issues here from my experience.
Shame on me.
Shame on me.
I thought I would transfer a small amount of money today (Saturday at 4-30pm) and still nothing through over 4 and quarter hours later.
Last time it was a much larger amount and thought that might be a factor.
Nope. Still the same rubbish that you can't get your own money out at the weekend.
Easy to deal with
I don'tunderstand some of these reviews.
We've been with Marcus over 5 years and never had a problem transferring money in/out at weekends or any other time. Thier customer services answer quickly and politely, although are closed at weekends, like most other financial institutions.
If you want to transfer out over £20,000 you can do it by a phonecall.
My only issue is that I'd like a higher rate than the 3.75% they currently offer.
Buyer beware: You cannot use your own money
While I understand that a savings account is not the same as a checking, this bank is telling me that I cannot use or transfer any of my money. They decide when I can transfer and to whom and 'maybe' they will lift that is 30-60 days and I am well over the 30 days. It is my money and I should be able to use it as I want. Keep in mind this is <4 transactions out of the account per month.
No customer or fraud department available at weekends
Had a request from Marcus for sum of £3000 to be transferred to them as a future payment early on Saturday morning. Santander informed me of request. Was able to speak to Santander fraud department.
Tried to contact Marcus - the initiator of the problem to find no Fraud or customer help until 8am Monday. Shockingly poor. Scammers must love them.
Later in afternoon received an email after mailing them saying they’d frozen my accounts to protect me and to phone them Monday!
Great - good job I don’t need the money.
jumping the same hoop over and over to open an account?
trying to open a new saving account online. Web site asked me to call their number and provide additional information to complete opening. Called, spoke with someone who verified all the information (that I already entered). Put on hold and he transfer me to another person to "complete the application", she again ask the very same question to "verify" the info I already "typed" online. This time, she spelled everything out. I pause the process and told her "no thank you". They are offering an online only product, but somehow couldn't even get their act together to streamline the process. I can only imagine banking with them. My sanity and money won't be safe with Marcus by Goldman Sachs.
Immensely user friendly online savings…
Immensely user friendly online savings account-transferred money to my linked account in 5 minutes despite it being the weekend and warning it may take over 2 hours -telephone contact is instant and always helpful.
No access to money on weekend
Are transfers down the whole weekend???? Money transferred since yesterday still hasn’t reached linked account! How can a transfer take this long! Completely unreliable on weekends and there is zero customer service.
Opened a joint fixed-rate savings account with ease
Opened a joint fixed-rate savings account online with ease. We can both log in with our own credentials securely. Account balances are updated within ten minutes or so of sending funds. You need to logout and back in to see the latest transactions. Makes me wonder why other providers make it so difficult to open joint savings accounts fully online - Marcus is proof it can be done!
We're hopeful it's just as easy to transfer funds out, so will have to wait a year to find out!
Marcus fixed saver account
Upto now found Marcus bank easy, opened account straight forward after couple of days transferred small amount in showing in account within a few minutes, same applied when I transferred the rest of money into their fixed saver account, much better rate than my bank, hope things are as smooth when I come to withdraw
Great interest rate 4.55% 1 year fixed
Great interest rate 4.55% 1 year fixed
Unlike other 12 month fixed accounts you can get your money out with the loss of 90 days interest in an emergency. Had no problems opening the account in joint names and adding funds. Account can be viewed on website or the app.
Great for savings and POA
Have savings accounts for my dad under power of attorney. They give excellent rates and it was easy to setup the POA ( unlike other banks). Also, they are easy to contact on the phone - the few times I’ve rang they always answer straight away 👍
Definitely recommend - also it’s Goldman Sachs - they are probably the best. 🙂
Terrible
Terrible. Could not open an account and they couldn’t tell me why.
The service that others should provide
Clear, concise website allowing for easy investing & withdrawals. Competitive rates. Withdrawal in my account within minutes. Proof that great customer service in financial services can be provided - what a pity others (e.g. NatWest) can't emulate!
A good bank - until you face any sort of unexpected issue
When things are going well, they go very well. Try to ensure you never lose your phone or have an issue outside of office hours, you'll be left with very little support from humans and substandard communication.
It was all going well with Marcus, until it wasn't.
I want to be fair and balanced by stating that.
Unfortunately, a bank that may not be adequately there for you outside of when things are "business as usual"
insane policies of marcus goldman sachs UnitedStates
i opened a CD account and linked my brick and mortar bank with them , now i want to close that bank account and link my new bank account with marcus goldman sachs so when i close my CD when it matures it can go to the new bank . so they make a 2 cents deposit and a 1 cent deposit to make sure it really is you and it really is a bank then they make a withdrawal of the 1 cent, and the two cents , to make sure it really is a bank then you have to call customer service to verify its really you, and then they want to make a 3 way conference call with your bank to make sure its really you, i told them my bank does not answer the phones you will sit on hold for hours and hours the only way to contact this bank is through email so they sat on hold for 1 hour to see for themselves and then said well to link this bank account you can mail in a bank statement i said forget it i will just leave my brick and mortar bank account open till my marcus CD matures, and i will never do business with goldman sachs ever again . i have 2 other CD'S with 2 other banks and i linked my new bank account with each one of them in 5 minutes flat , on line , didn't have to jump through hoops and do cartwheels . down the street goldman sachs is insane and out of touch with reality . just sayin 🤷
