Terrible service

Terrible service. Outpatient appointments have been outsourced to drdoctor and it is impossible to contact them by telephone or email. Phone lines not working total incompetence and waste of nhs/tqx payer money yet again. Waited 6 months for appointment- so much for nhs waiting list times going down. No wonder the waiting list is so long and patients do not attend for appointments. This service also assumes people can easily access IT based systems. Their service is for people with vision problems and are probably elderly

A consultation with Miss Kang

I had a very good consultation with Miss Swan Kang. She listened sensitively and carefully, and took a good look at my eye with her state-of-the-art equipment. In my case, the problem I had been diagnosed with was not found, so there was no operation on the eyelid; but Miss Kang was willing to discuss it all, from the inaccurate diagnosis, to subsequent abortive attempts to get the eye seen to locally, to providing useful suggestions for making the affected eye more comfortable. I felt I couldn't give her 5 Stars, as I would have needed to have experienced a successful operation for that. But I felt I could trust her competence, and therefore can recommend her very highly.

Not very impressed basically my mum had risky operation and while in hospital she had a stroke and nearly died while in Hillingdon hospital, but since then she has been seriously ill and has been in northwickpark hospital, and she is wheelchair bound and housebound and has been having her dental treatment and eye appointments at home, because to get her to any appointments she needs a ambulance to take her to the appointments , and my dad told me on her next eye appointment at home the optician said there might be something wrong and will need to go to moorfields and needs a urgent referral from her GP, and this happened and basically my mum was admitted nearly two weeks ago into northwick park hospital and she has had a laprosophy operation it was a serious operation and my dad got home a few days ago after visiting her and there was a message on his answer machine saying my mum has a appointment at moorfields at Brent cross shopping centre, my dad spoke to someone over the phone and got nowhere and said she has to go to moorfields at Brent cross shopping centre, and my dad explained that my mum can not travel anywhere she is wheelchair bound and housebound and to attend appointments has to travel by ambulance, but the person over the phone was very unpleasant,so my dad went to visit my mum in northwickpark hospital and his mobile phone rang and someone from moorfields at Brent cross shopping centre saying about the appointment my mum was supposed to be attending and said would a Different time help, and my dad said no and right now I am sitting next to my wifes hospital bed so not possible, but the person still insists my mum has to go moorfields at Brent cross shopping centre, even though she can not get there,so my dad after he had been visiting my mum he walked over to moorfields at Northwick park hospital and explained the situation, but they said that she now is a new patient so has to go to moorfields at Brent cross shopping centre, but my dad says she has been a patient with you for years, and basically it is impossible to get her to moorfields at Brent cross shopping centre,as she is wheelchair bound and housebound and has constant carers during the day and he looks after her at night he also is over 80 and can not walk very well anymore

I had cataracts about 2 yrs ago and since the end of 2025 could not see properly hence opticians referred me for yag laser as was bad in both eyes. St. George’s moorfields could not see me for at least 6 months for laser which takes about 6mins. I was getting headaches using magnifying glass and still having trouble seeing and was very depressed. Just on a state pension I had to take out a credit card to have this done privately which I found disgusting. I have just received letter for appointment in 4 was time and then would still have to wait for treatment!!!!

Excellent paediatric team

Our son, who is Autistic with ADHD, intellectual disability, and anxiety was seen today by Dr Ameenat Solebo (Lola) and Merve Aydemir at Moorfields, City Road, London. Considering our son hates change and really struggles ordinarily in unfamiliar settings and has diagnosed selective mutism, he was able to cope beyond any of our expectations. Their demeanour with him was incredible. Our son has been seeing specialists for his vision for over half his life, he has only ever been able to communicate by pointing at picture images, there are many of his school staff and professionals involved with his care who have never heard him speak. Today he was able to sound out letters and vocalise responses to Merve. She didn't pressure him, she gently encouraged and praised him. We were able to get scans and pressure tests done as well as a full examination.
Thank you so much for the excellent level of care.

"I had a fantastic experience during my recent appointment. The entire staff was wonderful and took great care of me.

A special shout-out to the amazing Pam, who conducted my 3-hour Electrophysiology exam. She is an incredible person and an outstanding professional. I couldn't have asked for better care!"

Follow up appointment issues

There is always a problem getting a follow up appointment, even if the hospital request an appointment for a specified time period. My 88 years old mother is due to have a follow up appointment in 6 weeks time. Today when I contacted the hospital I was told the appointment could be in another 7 months time or longer.

Simple Cataract surgery EYE DAMAGE

Truly abysmal service from what is supposed to be the best eye hospital in the world. I have serious concerns over my single sight monofocal cataract surgery outcome. 3 separate serious injuries were caused entirely by poor surgery. It has taken weeks to diagnose and now my sight is WORSE than before the surgery and deteriorating. Do not put your trust in what apparently is a simple surgery carried out by proficient surgeons in this hospital as clearly the junior surgeons are not sufficiently experienced to carry out even simple cataract surgery. Contact me for the name of the surgeon to avoid at all costs.

Concerns About Informed Consent and Patient Rights at Moorfields Old Street

I am writing this review to highlight concerns about patient rights and informed consent during my treatment at Moorfields Hospital (Old Street).
One of the most important principles in healthcare is that patients should be able to make informed decisions about their treatment. In my case, I did not feel that I was given sufficient balanced information or adequate time to consider alternatives before being advised to undergo eye surgery. I was told that without the procedure I could risk losing my sight, which created significant fear and urgency. While I understand that doctors must explain risks, I personally felt under pressure rather than supported in making a calm, fully informed choice.
After the procedure, I experienced ongoing symptoms and had questions about the nature of the incision and the necessity of certain post-operative treatments, including eye drops and laser-based interventions. I would have appreciated clearer explanations regarding the purpose, risks, and expected outcomes of these treatments.
I was also approached on several occasions about participating in experience or research-related activities. While teaching and research are valuable in medical settings, consent for such involvement should feel entirely voluntary and free from pressure. In my situation, I did not always feel fully comfortable.
My intention in sharing this is not to discourage treatment, but to stress the importance of:
Clear and balanced explanations of risks, benefits, and alternatives
Sufficient time to consider surgery without feeling rushed
Transparent communication about post-operative treatments
Fully voluntary and informed consent for research involvement
Patients should feel respected, heard, and empowered throughout their care. I hope this feedback encourages stronger communication practices and reinforces the importance of informed consent at every stage of treatment.

I recently had a cataracts op and a new lens put in my right eye in December and the care and treatment were outstanding.
I have been a patient at Moorfields for 25 years with glaucoma and have never had any negative experiences with anything to do with this hospital.
It is widely recognised as one of the best eye hospitals in the world and I personally feel that the care and treatment that I have received completely back this hospitals reputation up.

Treatment good Phone contact abysmal

Treatment and tests at Stratford and City excellent. A voice mail call today to cancel my next appointment in 3 days with promise
of appointment tomorrow but no times given. Call back promised within the hour but nothing forthcoming. It is impossible to reach them by phone, they never have an "agent" available. I also sent a text but no reply yet.

I would like to thank those whose care I was under consultant Mr S Bhermi ,Dr. P.Withrington,Nurse Lilly, and all the team there who helped along the way.

Excellent hospital with exceptional…

Excellent hospital with exceptional staff, both specialists and administrators. I have attended clinic 4 for many years.
It is let down, however, by the Booking service - outsourced, perhaps - where I have endured since Dec 2023, Mary George Eliku under Brenda Howard supervision, countless deferred appointments; cancellation; referral to wrong departments. This situation is ongoing.
Maria Wendall, Pals, has proved useless when approached which begs the question, who are these people acting for.
