Auto-renewal without Authorization, Refuses to Refund

On 10/26/2023, NSTA automatically billed me for two memberships for one person. I never intended to buy a membership last year. On my NSTA account profile, there is no indication that they stored my credit card or that the membership is set to auto-renew. When purchasing a membership (and mine was through my Canadian science teachers association), there was no option to select auto-renewal. There is also no option to cancel memberships directly on my account. There was no option to remove my billing information either.

I only noticed it now as they billed me on 10/23/2024 for another two memberships (again for the same person) and caught it on my credit card. I missed seeing the charge in 2023, and since I never intended to buy an NSTA membership, I didn't check my orders for 2023. NSTA never emailed me any receipt or order confirmation, so I was unaware of the order. The 2024 is being refunded, but they said they are unable to refund me the 2023 billing since it's past 30 days. They should not allow two memberships for a single person for the same year, since this is redundant.

They should also allow members to see, change, and remove any credit card information from their accounts. They should also clearly indicate to members that their membership is set to auto-renew, as well as provide easy cancellation. They should email a receipt whenever they bill the members.

It is not the responsibility of the member to cancel when the member never authorized the automatic renewal of membership.

BBB also tried to contact them about this and they refused to respond to the BBB.
