I initially contacted PVC Clean Preston after a “rival” company contacted me to clean my UPVC who I believed were locally based however they were not. My husband and I like to support local businesses. The quote I received from the rival company was very reasonable, however due to moving to Lancashire recently from Hampshire I wanted to give my business to someone local. After searching Google I found “PVC Clean Preston” I was impressed they were not just local, but also a member of the Safer Trader Scheme with Lancashire Council. I rang them for a quote. The boss Darren wanted to visit my property, however having dogs, and a family member with mental health issues, I preferred him not to. So he told me he could look on Google maps etc, and if I had any photos of my house to give him, he could still give me a quote. He soon contacted me by text with a quote to clean all the UPVC work on my house. I rang him, as his quote was “double” what the rival company quoted me. He confidently told me this was because the rival company probably only used water ? and that his company also used a UPVC cleaner to do the job. When I tried to haggle the price with him, he told me he had so much work and customers he really didn’t need the work anyway. Lucky for him I thought. I agreed a price for “cash” on the day. He also told me he needed access to power, ( fair enough) and my outside tap? I told him the outside electrics were ok, however my outside tap that he saw from my photos, had actually been disconnected due to a bad leak within my house. I didn’t know why he needed access to an outside tap anyway as companies provide their own water, and thought it was maybe to clean his equipment or something. A date 4 weeks in advance was set, I wanted the job done when my family member was not around due to their mental health issues. I never heard back from him, even though I specifically told him I did not have an outside tap. Then the night before he was supposed to arrive, he asked me to give his partner “Lee” the money the following day who would be attending to do the job. Lee arrived however he did not have his own ‘purified water’ in the rear of his van, to do the job? I found this odd, especially from a company that had been going since 2006. So when I asked him where do we go from here, as I do not have an outside tap, and that his boss Darren was told this 4 weeks previously and NEVER replied back to me saying this was an issue. He then told me that his company usually uses customers water from their inside taps to do the job!!which to be honest I was rather taken aback by his response. Also the amount of money he was charging me for the job too, I thought and felt this was not good. I told him this was not happening, as I expected a company going for nearly 20 years would have their own water to do the job. I cancelled the job there and then. What a complete waste of my time.
I then rang around various other UPVC cleaners, to be told they all carried purified water as it is more economical and that it’s not good business practice to use/ expect to use customers water supply. All their prices were in tune with the initial “rival” company I dealt with. I’m happy to say I have found another company who will be doing the job for half the price AND using their own water, of what I was quoted by PVC Clean Preston.
