Qantas Holiday Insurance is a scam

Qantas Holiday Insurance is a scam.
I am ill whilst in Northern Thailand where i told them i was going.
I need a procedure undertaken which 100.000.00 THB.
I put in the claim and they want me to pay first and claim later. Am i a moron. The hospital has been in touch with Qantas Insurance which uses, AIG in the UK, Zurich Insurance in Australia and some ASIAN intermediary in South East Asia.
The idea of insurance is that they guarantee payment of the treating hospital they will get paid but instead ask me to pay up front and claim upon my return. I have sued BUPA HI for a wording issue that cost them 16.5k but i would rather get fixed up under the terms and conditions of my QANTAS insurance policy where they pay for my hospital procedure rather than me hunting them down in Australia and having to off one their staff for not paying me back the money they owe me.
Australia is a bent and corrupt country and that leaves me with little hope of reimbursement. Larrakin lucky country. The place is run by the Police who will lock you up for having an argument with your wife. Don't think for one moment an Insurance company will pay out. It is a criminal country. Happy to be away from it but not happy with Qantas Insurance wanting the payment made before they pay out.

If I could give zero stars

If I could give zero stars, I would.

Qantas has some of the most incompetent customer service I've experienced. They cancelled my flight in the app without any notification, leaving me to discover it myself. There was no accountability, no proactive communication, and no effort to resolve the situation professionally.

The customer service staff were poorly trained and unable to provide clear answers or meaningful assistance. For an airline that markets itself as Australia's premium carrier, the level of service is unacceptable.

I've experienced better organization and customer care from airlines in developing countries. Qantas needs to take responsibility for its mistakes and invest in improving both its communication and customer service.

Similar to Ozy Boy

Similar to Ozy Boy, I bought extra points to get an upgrade on flights to Europe in June/ July 2026
80000 points $2192
Have been told no refunds!!
Applied for 4 upgrades and got ZERO.
Warning to all new members DO NOT buy extra points for upgrades as the advertising to upgrade your flights and all the glamour of Black Qantas Visa is very misleading.
DO NOT SPEND MONEY ON POINTS.

Difficult communication - exhausting experience

I had to give the person my booking reference 3 times and kept being told it did not exist until I finally asked what they were inputting - the problem was they were inserting "A" for elephant - alaphant!!
When we finally got down to the reason I was calling - the inability to select seats online for one leg of the journey, she finally allocated 2 seats and then proceeded to charge me $45 for each seat. I explained that I was a QFF Silver member and seat selection was complimentary. The back and forth went on for too long with her answers sounding like she was reading from a script. She had no knowledge of any of the QFF perks or how it worked and kept putting me on hold. Communication was exhausting and in the end she said "I am happy to offer you complimentary seat selection" like she was doing me a special favour. It was not a pleasant experience.

No limit to there shameless behaviour

1 star.
This company was once rated the most trusted airline in the world. What a shameless fall from grace. Sadly under the leadership of Alan Joyce that rare commodity ’trust’ has now been completely squandered. This is not a company you can trust, if there is a dollar that can be squeezed for director’s bonuses, they will do it. Now stealing long term loyal customer’s points. It’s the final straw, next I can only assume as revenue continues to plummet, they will turn on themselves, their maintenance, their staff. Goodbye qantas, your final contribution will likely be a case study on ‘how to ruin a business’ congratulations to all concerned, you know who you are.

Kind regards
Michael Berry

Booked with Qantas for my business trip…

Booked with Qantas for my business trip to china to support the Australian airline. It was a fair bit more expensive than china southern, but I did it anyway. Arrived to Sydney airport and was advised that qantas does not fly to china, but instead it works with china southern, so I ended up on a china southern flight..upgraded to business class. On my return trip, tried to upgrade..china southern advised that I couldn’t as its controlled Qantas. Had to call Qantas who put me on hold for half an hour, then advised that there are no seats available for upgrade. I asked the lady on the phone why I was restricted to upgrade through china southern when I’m flying with them anyway…she couldn’t answer my question. So I was stuck in economy, in significantly smaller seats because Qantas rather charge Australians more and put them on a flight that can be purchased independently for a fraction of the price and offer the poorest service in return to the excessive fee they are charging. Thank you for proving to me that it’s pointless trying to support you. Will never in my life book a Qantas flight again. Criminal thieving corporation.

Qantas steals your money

If you buy a voucher from anywhere they must honour them for 3 hours yet you pay QANTAS money and they allow you flight credit for 12months and not a day over. It kind of feels like they are stealing your money and I’m curious why rules apply to everyone else and not them. So they need new booking process and new customer service experiences and new staff from the top down as I realise the people in the call centre are only following the fat cats rules.

Disappointed client

I used Qantas to travel from New Zealand to South Africa I have never felt so disappointed. The flights were delayed without notice making us miss our connecting flight which we booked privately as we needed to be in Durban asap due to a family member being on life support. When I traveled back to New Zealand I was so heartbroken that the flight attendant Jordyn gave preferential treatment to her friends flying on our flight and ignored my request💔 I have flown many airlines in the past and have never felt so not worth it as compared to this Qantas flight.
I will never use Qantas ever😡😡😡😡💔💔💔💔

Ripped off

For the price of a flight, I would expect better than a selection of entertainment that I can only watch on my phone and a shitty snack pack that would suit a child.

Booked and paid for a flight in 3 weeks time earlier today . So now no flight, no communication and no refund. Holiday ruined- can’t believe Qantas is so bad now.
Spoke to customer service who say there is no booking.

First flight with this airline for 10…

First flight with this airline for 10 years and they are have failed to improve. Travelled business class, food average, plane old, one checked in bag not delivered on arrival and had to call three times and finally went to the airport to pick it up. The attendant without any apologies for the laxed service essentially said I should be gratefully to have my bag.
Never again
An embarassed Australian

At the Auckland Airport now

At the Auckland Airport now. Disgusted that as a member. Paid over 200,000 points for flights. Paid extra for seats with leg room. Flew qantas to Auckland and they put us with Jetstar back to Brisbane. They take your money for chosen seats. But put you on return flight without your seats you pay extra for? Then going to the qantas lounge you pay for as a member. You get rejected as flying with Jetstar return? Disgusted! Take your money, your points! Member for decades! Disappointed and wtf moment! Are you really getting bang for your buck with frequent flyers anymore? Or are you just getting banged?

Ipad entertainment screen not working

Ipad entertainment screen was not working. Asked the staff if they had other devices available and the replacement device provided also was not working. They had a stack of the not-working Ipads and there were maybe 10 of them there.

Very disappointing to take a long flight of about 8 hours and not have a device available to watch the entertainment. Left feedback on the survey after the flight and have not been contacted to date by their customer service team.

International Business Class flight- Book elsewhere

Booked a Business Class flight from the Gold Coast to Heathrow, connecting through Sydney. Upon arrival at the Sydney Domestic Terminal, I was advised that a transfer to the International Terminal would be arranged. However, after approaching the Qantas desk, I was simply told to take the T2 bus myself.

The staff member at the desk appeared uninterested in assisting and made no effort to organise the transfer that should accompany a Business Class booking. This is not the level of service one expects when paying for a premium fare.

Unfortunately, this experience seems consistent with Qantas’ declining reputation, so perhaps this is now standard. Nonetheless, it was disappointing and far below the service level advertised for Business Class travel.

Did complete their end of trip survey and again, they could not be bothered to respond.

Unless you are platinum, they do not care

I searched 'Qantas' in my Whatsapp messages to find my wife's frequent flyer number. Every result showed an exclamation of anger from the past years. "Ahhh Qantas have lost my bag again! Ahhh Qantas are hours late leaving again" "Sorry I won't be home until tomorrow Qantas cancelled another flight without telling anyone".
This weekend, I am bringing my family on a surprise holiday where we were to meet friends in the lounge. I had saved my lounge passes for exactly this. However, Qantas refused. The lounge is being refurbished which is their problem. These are passes I earned and saved. I wasted hours with robotic customer service and still they couldn't make room for 4 people who have paid a fortune to this awful company. Please please choose another airline where possible.

My wife required a bearevment flight as…

My wife required a bearevment flight as her mother was dying. I called Quantas and asked if they covered this. They agreed and my wife had a flight that evening fo £2400.00. Assuming it was a return flight I bought it. After the funeral my wife tried to come home but turned out the ticket was one way. Never fly Quantas again
