Left feeling shamed and unwelcome

I stayed at Quay Apartments Manchester during Pride. While the apartment was clean and well located, I had a very negative experience with their policies.

I was refused entry to a guest I met during Pride, who would have been in my apartment for less than an hour and not staying overnight. Their blanket “no visitors at all” rule felt excessive, intrusive, and completely at odds with the idea of treating the apartment as “your own home.”

The way this was enforced left me feeling shamed. As a gay man, I personally felt discriminated against, I don’t believe a heterosexual couple would have been treated the same way. This put a huge dampener on my weekend, and instead of enjoying Pride, I felt anxious in my own accommodation.

If you value privacy, freedom, and inclusivity, I would recommend choosing alternative accommodation.

Didn't get what I booked and paid for

I booked a lake view apartment for two nights in a block that was next to the offices where I had meetings. On the day of travel, I received a confirmation call followed by a text message with a different address to my original booking. I called back and was told they had several buildings and that my booking had been changed, but that it was still a luxury apartment.
I was told to call on arrival and I would be met by a representative.
I called when I arrived and was told to wait by the Sainsbury's local shop and someone would meet me. I waited for 20 minutes, surrounded by groups of youths, to then be approached by a man who said he was taking me to another building. Now he was perfectly friendly so I have no issue with him. My issue is that my "luxury" apartment was in a building that was still being renovated. My view was of a rubbish dump, and the location was scruffy and I didn't feel particularly safe at night. I walked to the building that I had actually booked and it looked lovely, right on the water.
I paid £160 for a luxury apartment with a view.
The only reason I am giving this two stars is that the apartment, whilst basic and certainly not luxury, was clean and had everything that I needed.

Horrifying Experience at Quay Apartment, Salford. A Total Disregard for Customer Safety and Well-being, Rated 0 Star

My stay at the Quay Apartments which is rated as a Four Stars Apartment, how? I don't know, located at 256 The Quays, Salford District, Greater Manchester, M50 3BD, UK was filled with disappointment and frustration with an utterly disconcerting experience. It was supposed to be comfortable and secure but turned out to be a nightmare, and I feel compelled to share my negative feedback so that others do not encounter a similar situation.

Firstly, locating the apartment was an ordeal in itself. Despite multiple attempts to find the address on Google Maps, the apartment was mysteriously absent. This left me wandering the cold streets of Manchester at night, desperately trying to find the place I had already paid for. When I called their supposed representative for assistance, the situation only worsened.

I was directed to meet someone at Sainsbury's Local Grocery shop because according to them, it was their meeting point. This seemed highly unprofessional and unusual for any establishment. To add insult to injury, I was approached by a male stranger who didn't introduce himself and claimed to be associated with the apartment. He asked if I was Paula and checking into the Airbnb room and I was told to follow him. I questioned why I was directed to a grocery store instead of their hotel front desk and he responded this was their meeting point. I asked why I was being checked into an Airbnb when I had clearly booked and paid for an apartment and where I was following him.

He refused to answer my questions and instead insisted that I follow him to the Airbnb room. His behaviour was alarming and left me confused and infuriated as I had booked and paid for an apartment, not an Airbnb. Rather than providing answers, he accused me of being abusive and insisted we continue the conversation in the private Airbnb room. I declined, emphasizing that such a conversation should occur at their hotel front desk, as is standard practice. Despite my attempts to seek clarity, he walked away without any explanation, leaving me stranded and vulnerable in an unfamiliar city.

My concerns about this deceptive situation were blatantly ignored and were dismissed as abusive behaviour. This lack of transparency is unacceptable and raises serious security concerns. Being led to a random Airbnb room without proper explanation or identification is unprofessional and incredibly unsafe, particularly for a solo female traveller, as it compromises my safety and well-being.

Furthermore, when I called the apartment again to seek clarification on the situation, I was shockingly told that I would not be given a room because I was supposedly being abusive for asking entirely reasonable questions about my accommodation. This blatant disregard for customer concerns and safety is not just unprofessional; it is outright dangerous. I cannot fathom why a supposedly legitimate business would subject its customers to such a distressing experience.

Shocking customer service

Shocking customer service! Booked 2 apartment for a couple of nights months ago with some friends who actually cancelled so I cancelled one of the rooms. They emailed me yesterday saying my card was declined (no reason for that) and then today (a week before my event) they decided due to me having a “group booking” I’ve got to cancel my booking as Group bookings are not allowed. My argument is that it’s not a group booking, there’s only one room I require but they were still not going accommodate me and now I’m having trouble book somewhere for my event next week! What a shambles! I hope you read this and choose not to book there!

Booked in online

Booked in online. Upgraded 1 bed apartment to 2 bed apartment (says sleeps upto 4 on booking.com). When arriving they asked me for the name of any other guests. Assuming 4 people were allowed to stay I sent over the extra names. They then said only 2 people can stay as it’s their personal covid policy - 1 person per a room. I said I would then cancel 2 names and people, they did not accept this and said my booking for being cancelled. WHATS WORSE IS THEY SAID ON THE PHONE TO REQUEST A REFUND FROM BOOKING.COM AND WHEN I DID THEY DENIED IT AND CHARGED ME IN FULL. DISGRACE.
