Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 671 reviews, most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Many users find the platform easy to get started with, appreciating its ability to quickly build basic applications and websites. Customers are often impressed by the speed and integrated workflow, noting that the AI can translate ideas into code and accelerate development significantly. The tool is seen as powerful and capable, especially for quick projects, prototyping, and for individuals without extensive coding knowledge. However, a significant number of people express dissatisfaction with the pricing, finding it expensive and lacking transparency regarding credit usage and additional charges. Many report that credits are consumed very quickly, often due to the AI making errors or going on tangents, leading to unexpected and unjustified costs. Some users also experience issues with the platform's reliability for more complex projects, noting that the environment can become slow, clunky, and that the AI agents perform worse. Furthermore, there are complaints about customer support, deployment problems, and difficulties with exporting projects to other platforms.

(UPDATED) Unexpected AI charges, unclear billing, and post-cancellation charge

At first, everything seemed fine. I expected that normal AI-assisted development would be reasonably covered under a paid plan, or at least clearly limited and predictable.

However, based on the experience described below, I would strongly advise anyone considering Replit to review the billing model very carefully before subscribing.

Here are the main issues I encountered:
Firstly, after checking the billing and usage page, I discovered over $57 in AI usage charges scheduled to be added to my next payment, including more than $22 from a single app. These charges were incurred through what I consider routine development actions (for example, asking the AI to add features or help modify code). At no point did it feel like I was doing anything advanced or unusually expensive.

While pricing was technically listed as variable, there was:
no clear upfront explanation of how quickly costs could escalate
no default spending cap enabled
no proactive warning before credits were exhausted

Secondly, I only received a notification after all included credits were already used, informing me that I would now be billed at standard rates.
When I contacted support, they explained that new projects default to a high-autonomy AI mode that performs extensive background analysis and significantly increases costs. This default was not clearly communicated when subscribing, and there was no obvious indication that normal prompts could trigger such high usage.
Support did agree to refund the Core subscription fee, but initially refused to refund the AI usage charges, even while acknowledging that defaults and notifications were unclear. Communication then stopped for an extended period.

Because of these issues, I decided to cancel my subscription and stop using Replit.

Worst of all, despite the cancellation, I was later charged again (approximately $39), which required escalation through my payment provider and additional follow-up before the issue was finally resolved. The charge was eventually refunded.

To be clear: Replit’s tools are powerful. However, the AI billing model is not user-safe in its current form. Costs can escalate very quickly due to non-obvious defaults, warnings arrive too late, and charges may still occur after cancellation.

If you use Replit:
review AI autonomy settings immediately
set a hard spending limit
monitor usage closely, even on a paid plan

I hope Replit improves transparency, safer defaults, and clearer communication, because this experience caused unnecessary stress and unexpected charges.

All in one place for building hobby apps

I find Replit incredibly valuable for creating and deploying my hobby SaaS projects in a single platform, simplifying management. I appreciate the transparent pricing structure, which shows usage statistics after each prompt and allows for usage-based billing beyond the monthly limit, ensuring I can continue my projects without interruption. The connector apps feature stands out for eliminating the cumbersome task of creating and linking multiple API keys, significantly streamlining the development process.

The main drawback is the lack of documentation for setting up local environments for projects created in Replit’s web UI, which can make correcting environment variables and package files time-consuming.

Powerful tool ruined by opaque and excessive billing

I started using Replit one afternoon, and by the next morning, about 24hours after, my credits were already completely exhausted after creating only two applications. Although Replit sends an alert once the credit is gone, the damage is already done: you are hit with additional charges the moment you continue working.

Paying $25 a month only to see your credits vanish in less than 24 hours is unacceptable. Furthermore, there is a total lack of transparency regarding AI Agent billing. The most frustrating part is the hosting system: if you stop paying the monthly fee, all your websites are taken offline. The system forces you to pay indefinitely just to keep your work visible.

The lack of real human customer support for a service at this price point is the final straw. Technically, it is an excellent application, but the business model feels designed to drain users' wallets rather than support them.

I’ve been charged over $2,000 by Replit…

I’ve been charged over $2,000 by Replit despite my plan clearly indicating $40 per account for 3 accounts ($120 total). Even after these excessive charges, I am still being billed the $40 per account.

I have sent five separate email chains attempting to resolve this issue and have received no response whatsoever. Not even an acknowledgment that my concerns were received. It has now been over 30 days with complete silence from customer support.

I’ve been patient and professional in every message, but overbilling combined with zero communication is unacceptable and reflects very poorly on the company. This has left me with no choice but to escalate the issue outside of Replit.

I strongly recommend monitoring billing closely and not relying on customer support if a problem arises.

Title: Extremely expensive, non‑transparent AI billing

My experience with this platform’s AI webmaker has been extremely negative from a billing and transparency perspective.

Credit disappears very quickly when talking to the AI, and there is no clear, real‑time way to see what each interaction actually costs. The result is that normal use feels like being overcharged for every conversation.

The pricing is effectively the most expensive AI webmaking experience I have used, and the lack of clear itemized usage or warnings makes it feel like there is a “gremlin” in the system silently racking up charges. Nothing has improved despite raising concerns, and the whole situation feels borderline abusive to paying customers.

People considering this product should be aware that billing is not user‑friendly or transparent, and you may lose money to invisible charges unless you monitor everything very closely.

They keep freezing my system and so I cant deploy and blaming me for billing issues which was incorrect. I have complained and they issued some fast mode free to hook. After, the free turn into more charge (1 min talk = 45 cents racks up fast. Please take a look at the percentage of complaints almost 25% about this same issue. GREED!!!

I found out the nickel and diming still continues. I cant recommend this Company for its almost abuse and expensive Charges. I AM TERRIFIED OF THE SERVIC AS I COMPLAIN THEY OFFERED ME TO LEAVE AS I AM A TROUBLEMAKER trying to help others. REPLIT IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE AI TOOL I HAVE EVER USED.
BAR NONE. DO BETTER MATT AND COMPANY.

Too Expensive and Bad Error Correction

Im giving Replit one star for the following 3 reasons (1) Bad at correcting errors. You could spend hours trying to correct an error created by the AI coder. And it will break other features it already coded correctly. While Replit keeps billing you for each attempted correction. Replit will even bill you when you click the stop button and the AI coder produced no response, (2) Over priced. You can spend over a $100 a day using replit. If you are creating a complex app, you could spend a few thousand dollars, and (3) My site keeps going down to an Internet server error from Replit. I have to keep manually republishing my site to bring it back up.

I started to use Lovable and it is so much better than Replit. It handles errors much better and it's affordable. Lovable allows me to add additions 50 credits for just $12.50. Im trying to move my current project away from Replit now.

billing system is constantly changing and buggy

Hosting was suspended for an open $0.06 invoice which can not be paid for technical reasons apparently (there is not even an option to pay it). Support answered promptly, but has not fixed the issue yet, so hosting is down for 12 hours already with no visible chance of solution. Not reliable.
Update: They stopped answering, refuse any responsibility, and simply refer to 'you disabled your subscription's auto-renewal' which apparently means that you lose all access to databases indefinitely without the possibility of re-subscribing. Now that's some interesting policy.
Update 2: After 6 days in total, the database suddenly was accessible again. Just like that. Thanks I guess..

Stay away

At first, Replit seemed great. Then the billing turned predatory. I paid for the $25 plan, barely used it, and got slammed with a $90 charge out of nowhere.

When I downgraded, they threatened to wipe everything. I also bought multiple domains for a full year through Replit, and they now refuse to give me DNS access or transfer info. That’s straight-up domain hostage behavior.

They shut down all my projects after downgrading — even though the free plan allows publishing. That’s not a technical limitation, that’s leverage.

Decent product. Scummy business practices. I wouldn’t trust Replit with real projects or domains
and support is useless.

CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!

Predatory Billing Practices! You pay them $25 a month? They BILL you $75 a month!

They're holding my DNS records hostage now that I'm trying to migrate and they flat out REFUSE to respond!

Canceled my subscription in NOVEMBER, still charged me in DECEMBER!

If I could rate ZERO STARS I would!

I am currently finalizing complaints with the FTC, iCANN and the OAG. Even though I've told them I would, they STILL WON'T RESPOND.

HAND IN MY POCKET!!!

Replit is MAFIA : BE AWARE new users!!!

Check your billing carefully. In november Replit charged me $21 with zero transparency, even after I asked them directly for clarity. The response was "Oh sorry, I cant see why your were charged ...." when I confronted them with screenshots of my billing and core usage -Just interrupting the Creativity - The customer service is all talk, less action. They still charged me and a NEW AI manager sent me a nice note stating basically ... NO REFUND!

Replit is mafia - they can bill you whatever they want, and you’re stuck paying it unless you cancel your account. There’s no real customer service and no clear breakdown of charges.

Meanwhile, Matt is on video smiling about how easy Replit Core and Agents are supposed to be. Yet 25% negative reviews about shady business practices say otherwise. That’s not noise — that’s a pattern.

Matt and the Replit team: you need to do better.
If this continues, I can see a major lawsuit coming.

The AI games have to stop. This is abuse!

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

Title: Non‑transparent billing and slow support on AI / Fast Mode

I’ve been using Replit’s Core plan and AI features and ran into serious billing problems.
My plan clearly shows a monthly price around 28 USD, yet my card was charged 49.81 USD, and support acknowledged that my usage page showed 0.00 additional usage and that the bill “should” only be the Core price.

Despite me doing their job, showing them proof they still have not properly corrected the difference and continue to draw money from my card with my consent I dont know anything unless I watch every charge myself. This is retarded business in 2025

Customer service has been slow and vague, often telling me to “check the billing page” instead of providing a clear, line‑by‑line explanation of extra Core, AI, or Fast Mode costs.

Fast Mode in particular feels misleading: Free for a few days then it ended up more expensive than normal usage and I was billed about 0.25 USD for roughly a minute of work, even though I understood it would effectively be free or covered by credits.

My concern is not paying for what I use, but the lack of transparency, the surprise extra charges, and the burden placed on the customer to constantly audit billing to avoid overpaying. Until Replit provides clear itemized invoices, predictable AI/Fast Mode pricing, and responsive billing support.
I love the work of the agents still I find it hard. without a proper customer service to recommend it to others. Be aware!! Its not an easy journey - Replit you are obviously milking it. Nickle and diming people is not the way!!!

PLEASE DO BETTER.

I am able to build anything I want with replit but the billing information is not transparent, the integration between the billing and the system is not sync and replit can continue to bill you account without authorization and even after you can canceled your account. The customer service support is extremely poor. What a shame for a good service.

New users beware of Autoscale charges

New users beware of Autoscale charges
I’m new to Replit and was on the $25/month plan. After publishing an app using the default Autoscale settings, I was unexpectedly charged nearly $200 in usage fees. I didn’t change any values or expect background compute, but Autoscale ran large machines by default. Support said the charges are non-refundable.
Advice: if you’re just starting out, avoid Replit or don't publish your apps — run apps manually or use a small fixed deployment to prevent surprise billing. Don't use Autoscale

They robbed me.

I used Replit’s AI for one day, saw only a vague usage reset message, clicked ‘continue’ with no price shown, and the next day they hit my card with a $55.69 ‘usage-based’ charge and refused to refund it, hiding behind fine print. Be very careful with their billing.

Replit Ended Up Costing Me Hundreds and Felt Like a Total Rip-Off

My experience with Replit has been nothing but frustration. I originally thought I was signing up for a simple $25/month plan — that’s what I believed I’d be paying. Instead, I was blindsided by over $700 in charges, mostly from development prompts and usage fees that were never clearly explained. The way the platform bills per transaction adds up insanely fast, and I even saw individual actions costing several dollars, sometimes $6+ for what felt like routine, tiny tasks.

What made everything worse is that whenever Replit’s own system broke — deployments glitching, environments failing, random errors popping up — I still ended up getting charged while trying to fix problems I didn’t even cause. It feels awful to pay more money just to troubleshoot the platform’s instability.

And for all that money, the actual product felt amateur at best. Constant breaking, inconsistent behavior, and nothing that justified the price tag I ended up with.

Overall, I left feeling completely ripped off. In my experience, Replit’s billing model can spiral out of control, and the quality doesn’t come close to matching the costs. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone unless they’re ready to monitor every click like it’s a meter running in a taxi.

Replit operates like a predator in the…

Replit operates like a predator in the growing AI technology space. Its seemingly charming AI agent masks a system designed to extract every penny from users through deceitful billing practices that border on fraud and extortion. What should be simple and transparent interactions are instead buried under a maze of convoluted rules and traps, leaving customers frustrated and financially drained. Whether you are an expert developer or a complete novice, I strongly advise steering clear of Replit’s services entirely. And its customers service is also an AI and no one could be reached once they extorted your money

My Replit Experience

My Replit Experience – Caution for Fellow Developers**

I’ve spent months developing and deploying projects using Replit, attracted by its promise of easy cloud coding and AI-powered automation. However, my recent experience has left me seriously concerned about transparency, user control, and billing practices on the platform.

- **Unexpected Charges:** Costs for “agent thinking” and background tasks have added up quickly – even when errors were caused by platform-side issues, not my code.

**Autonomy Settings Changed Without Consent:** My agent autonomy level was switched from Medium to High without warning, leading to more automated actions (and more fees).
-
Non-Transparent Limits:** Service limits and agent caps were changed without user notification, impacting workflow and project costs.
- **Platform Errors = Extra Charges:** When infrastructure glitches (like a suspended Neon database) broke my project, I had to pay AI agent fees just to troubleshoot and restore basic functionality.

Support Lacks Clarity:** Reporting these problems hasn’t led to resolution or refund, and the help documentation doesn’t address these real-world billing concerns.

I believe in innovation, but developers deserve honesty, stable service, and control over what they pay for. If you’re considering Replit, **watch your agent settings closely** and keep detailed logs of your billing activity. Consider alternatives like Vercel, Render, Gitpod, and CodeSandbox if you want more transparency and predictable costs.

Let’s push for better practices in developer platforms. Share your story, sign a petition, and help others avoid unpredictable expenses.

Great product, terrible support and billing experience

I’ve been using Replit for a long time, and I really liked the platform. But recently, things have gone downhill fast. My credit card (which always worked before) keeps getting declined for no reason, and I can’t pay or keep my project running.

I’ve contacted support multiple times, but they reply very late and always with generic answers that don’t fix anything. I’ve spent nearly $150 in one day just for credits, and now I’m being blocked again.

It’s frustrating that a company this advanced in AI still can’t manage basic billing properly. I expected much better communication and responsibility from Replit.

Replit Shut Down My SaaS Before the Billing Deadline and Stopped Responding

I’m writing this after losing real customers, real money, and days of work because of Replit. I was running a production SaaS with paying users, and Replit’s own billing system displayed clear deadlines stating when services would be suspended if payment wasn’t made. I followed those dates — and yet Replit shut down my application prematurely, before the displayed deadline, taking my business offline without warning. As a result, I had to issue refunds, rebuild everything from scratch in Lovable, and explain to customers why the service suddenly stopped working. When I reached out for help, Replit first tried to change the narrative, then offered me just $40 in credits after I lost hundreds in revenue, and now they’ve stopped responding altogether. I’m posting this so other developers know the risk: if you build your business on Replit, their system can fail, your customers will suffer, and you will be left alone with the damage. This is not a platform you can trust for anything commercial or customer-facing.

A Glimpse of the Future of Development We’re Still Early in the Journey

Replit honestly feels like a preview of where development is heading — everything in one place, no setup chaos, and AI right there in the editor ready to help you build. It makes starting projects ridiculously fast, and for that alone it’s easy to fall in love with it.

Where things get a bit tricky is with the AI coding side. It’s powerful, but it’s definitely not at the “trust it blindly” phase yet. The AI can go off track, take a wrong design path, or generate fixes that create new issues — and because the system runs on usage billing, you’re essentially paying to let it experiment. If you’re not watching closely or don’t have a solid technical instinct, costs can creep up fast.

That said, this feels more like an AI maturity issue rather than a flaw in Replit itself. The platform is solid and clearly moving in the right direction. It’s just worth remembering that, at this stage, AI-assisted coding still needs a human pilot — and that pilot needs to stay alert.
Feels like we’re being given early access to the future. It’s exciting — just keep one hand on the wheel while the AI is learning to drive.
Great work Replit team!!
