Worst Payment and Customer Support Experience Ever
I paid $420 for an annual subscription days ago, and I still have no access to the service I paid for. Their payment system rejects all my valid credit cards — even after 3D Secure verification — despite these cards working flawlessly with AWS, Google Cloud, Stripe, and PayPal.
When I contacted support for a real fix, they sent irrelevant “usage reduction tips” instead of solving the actual problem. This is like being locked out of your house and being told to “use less electricity.”
I’ve wasted a full day trying to fix an issue caused entirely by their faulty billing system. As a paying customer, I’m denied access, and they’re offering no meaningful resolution.
Warning: If you face a payment or billing issue with Replit, expect to lose both your time and money without a proper solution.
The AI Agent V3
The AI Agent V3: Fundamentally Flawed
The primary issue encountered was the severe unreliability of Replit's AI Agent V3. After purchasing a monthly subscription to utilize the agent for project development, the tool failed to perform even the most basic task: setting up a working email/password login. This is a foundational element for almost any application.
Key Technical Issues:
Failure on Basic Tasks: The agent repeatedly produced code that resulted in errors on a simple email/password login, rendering the resulting application completely unusable.
Dysfunctional Debugging: When prompted to correct its own errors, the AI tool exhibited a critical flaw by reporting a 'pass' or successful correction, even though the error persisted and the application remained broken.
Concerning Billing Practices
A major source of contention was the opaque and questionable charging mechanism employed by Replit for the AI Agent V3's usage.
Charges for Failure: Despite the agent repeatedly failing to produce functional code and the user being unable to progress beyond the initial login screen, the system continued to apply charges, ranging from approximately $1 to $6 per attempt.
Excessive and Delayed Charges: This culminated in significant, sudden charges to the account: a large sum of approximately $61, followed by another charge of around $16, despite the service being completely unusable. Essentially, the user was charged substantial amounts for a defective "service" that could not fulfill its purpose.
Poor Customer Service and Refund Policy
Upon deciding to seek a refund after four days of this highly unproductive and costly experience, customer support proved to be equally unsatisfactory.
Defective Product/Service: The refund request was initiated under the principle that a consumer is not liable to pay for a product or service that is defective and unusable, as per standard consumer law.
Categorization Loophole: Replit reportedly denied the full refund by categorizing the AI work as a "service" rather than a "product," thus claiming it was non-refundable. This stance seems to disregard the spirit of consumer protection regulations, which often entitle a consumer to a refund if a service is demonstrably defective or unfit for purpose.
Unresponsive Complaints Policy: After being reminded of consumer protection regulations that apply even to defective services, the company reportedly failed to reply, suggesting a poor and potentially non-compliant complaints resolution process.
Inconsistent Partial Refund: In a peculiar move, the company eventually offered a partial refund of $18 for the monthly subscription, acknowledging the cancellation within the first four days. This is an extremely small fraction of the total charges incurred and is contradictory, as it suggests an acknowledgment that the early cancellation was valid, yet the far greater usage charges for the unusable service were not refunded.
Conclusion
Based on this experience, potential users should exercise extreme caution before investing time and money into Replit's AI Agent V3. The combination of a fundamentally broken tool, a billing system that charges for errors and failures, and a customer service department that appears to invoke a narrow definition of "service" to avoid issuing refunds for unusable code, makes for a highly negative and expensive engagement. The service, in this case, was not merely below par—it was defective and unusable, leading to significant, unwarranted charges.
Waste of time and money...
I’ve now wasted 6 full days, dozens of chat sessions, 10+ checkpoints in just 24 hours, and been billed $115 in “usage charges” – and I still do not have a working result.
All I needed was simple multilingual functionality (Dutch default + English + Spanish) across my site – including forms, placeholders, validation messages, calculators, modals, and navigation. Instead:
Only the homepage and one “battery” page translate at all.
All forms remain Dutch-only: labels, placeholders, and validation messages never change.
Most pages remain untranslated.
DeepL API itself works fine; the failure lies entirely with Replit’s AI Agent implementation.
Every attempt consumed usage, checkpoints, and time — but delivered nothing of value.
Support has been slow and ineffective. I’ve repeatedly provided logs, screenshots, join links, even video offers. The only answer I get back is: “usage-based charges are non-refundable”. In other words: they admit their AI Agent didn’t deliver, but still keep the $115 usage fees.
That is not “normal usage” — it’s failure to deliver service. On other platforms (e.g. GPT directly) the same workload works within a €20/month subscription. Replit charged me more than 5x that for a broken process that never produced what was requested.
Other major issues:
There is no way to export AI Agent history, which makes it nearly impossible to provide evidence or escalate effectively. That is Replit’s responsibility, not mine.
Communication gaps: several days went by with no second-line support response, despite my follow-ups.
They continue charging while failing to deliver, which feels uncomfortably close to misleading billing practices.
I came in as a paying user who genuinely likes the Replit environment. I would have preferred a constructive solution. Instead I was left with a half-translated site, wasted days, $115 billed, and a dismissive “non-refundable” policy.
⚠️ My advice: do not rely on Replit’s AI Agent for production work. If you need multilingual or serious functionality, use other platforms. At best you will waste time; at worst you’ll be charged heavily for nothing.
Exploitative billing model
Exploitative billing model – be very careful
I’ve been in ongoing communication with Replit support, but despite raising my concerns, nothing has been resolved. To be clear, I don’t want readers to be misled if Replit replies here pretending they can help — I have already contacted their team, and they have not assisted.
Here’s the reality: one single prompt cost me $32+, and even when I didn’t run any prompts, my usage still maxed out automatically after I increased my budget. In other words, charges were added without me actively using the service.
The platform has no clear usage indicators, no transparency on how costs accumulate, and no meaningful protection for users. Once money is taken, there are no refunds and no real investigation into the issue.
Replit markets itself as a place where you can take an idea and build an app, but in practice the unclear billing feels more like an exploitative model than a supportive developer platform.
I’m sharing this so others understand the risk before committing their money.
I GOT SCAMMED 400 USD!
Absolutely hate this software. I submitted a ticket regarding my billing problem multiple times, and no one is actually responding to me (just some AI, probably).
I BASICALLY GOT SCAMMED 400 USD!
Please DO NOT use a replit, such a waste of money.
I incurred over $1,000 in charges on my…
I incurred over $1,000 in charges on my Replit account within a single night while using their AI app builder.
The AI repeatedly deleted or undid completed work, forcing me to re-run the same tasks. Each repeat incurred additional usage charges, creating an unintended loop of costs. When my funds were exhausted, my account was immediately locked, and I was prompted to add a new payment method before continuing.
I have retained screenshots of:
• The series of back-to-back charges
• The lockout message displayed after the charges
• Evidence of other users publicly reporting similar issues
I have submitted a formal complaint and refund request to Replit, as these charges were caused by a system malfunction, not voluntary or informed usage. If unresolved, I will be pursuing redress through my bank under consumer protection provisions and escalating through the appropriate regulatory channels.
This review is intended to document my experience and to advise others to carefully monitor billing activity when using Replit’s AI services.
They will change your build and you have to pay again to fix it
I started building on replit about 4 weeks ago spent over $500 and over the past week when I would jump on the app my app would be changed without consent or asking. Then I'd have to have the agent fix it. How can you charge a customer to build, your agent changes the app overnight and then you have to spend more money fixing what they changed without your permission, I think this is fraud? An opportunity to keep billing you.... I ave asked for help the customer service doesnt exist during business hours. I will be disputing the charges with my bank.
Replit is incredible
Replit is incredible. As someone who hasn’t written a line of code in their life (ie me) , I’ve produced a fully functioning app that has since been approved by our firm for deployment and rollout. The creation of this was hugely enjoyable. Typing or even just talking to the AI, and I went from concept to deployment testing in a matter of weeks (probably 14 hours of solid “coding”)
It’s been a learning curve too, and understanding when to use the assistant vs the agent was an expensive “learning” and I burned through my $25 monthly credit fast, often 2 days into the billing period, so ended up with rafts of additional charges, but hey we’re talking $15 here. How much would an experienced dev/coder have cost for that time?
The only downside/caveat which will depend on your own firm’s platforms is that once my app is removed from Replit, it will go through a recoding process and new database format so the Nirvana of tweaking the app and redeploying at will, is never going to happen. That’s a shame but that’s also on us, not Replit
Billing is as clear as mud - Money Taken Despite Downgrading to "free"
Billing is as clear as mud, borderline a scam. And even after downgrading to free following obscene - hidden charges, i've still been charged for another month. Will have to request a chargeback via credit card as i can't raise this with Replit. You have to be a core member to do that, which i'm apparently not, despite the money having been taken.
Wish i'd read other reviews before signing up.
AVOID
Double charge and missing discount – unacceptable billing issue
I renewed my subscription with Replit after receiving a discount offer. However, the discount was NOT applied and I was charged the full price.
On top of this, I was also charged a second time on the same day (two separate pending transactions: 26.18 USD + 23.12 USD)!!!!
I contacted support immediately and only received an automated response, with no resolution so far. This is unacceptable for a company handling payments at scale.
I expect:
Immediate refund of the duplicate charge,
Correct application of the discount that was promised,
A clear explanation of how this happened.
Number of first invoice: UBPSLH9Z-0002 (30,5 USD without discount (10 USD)
If not resolved promptly, I will proceed with a chargeback through my bank and continue to share my experience publicly.
Emptied my bank account and then deleted my entire database.
Took over $6,500 out of my bank account for what is supposed to be a $20 a month service. Additional requests push it up - but they then started taking money 5/6 times a day - and nowhere near in line with reported usage. (And I mean nowhere near) - thousands and thousands of dollars 'over usage' with multiple payments being claimed per invoice.
Their billing system also takes money before usage is calculated - clear violations of consumer / commercial laws.
The agent actually started swearing at me, and completely messed up my app. It even admitted (it it's own words) 'effing it up'. It has now been abandoned and a total waste of time after it repeatedly broke it.
The checkpoints for the database all got ruined in July by their upstream provider - so rolling back totally destroyed all my databases (they ALL got deleted by the issues they had). All I had left was a UI and crumpled code.
This then got repeated - I fixed it all, then it broke it all again after the Agent 3 rollout. A simple command of 'clear the cache' got mistaken for 'delete all my databases, and their backups".
Total disaster show of a company, over 500 work hours burned, and thousands ripped off from me.
Absolutely zero duty of care at all - I have sent multiple requests for help and nothing but AI gets back. Incredible in this day and age.
The main core workspace was fundamentally broken so all additional usage was wasted - the code it produces gets stored on a broken system that could not marry up database timestamps - meaning any rollback put the whole thing out of sync.
Then when I actually looked at the code......I realised just how terrible it was - there is no way you could launch a commercial app with this and maintain it - absolutely no way at all. I could not find any real commercial apps that have been actually made with it.
Avoid like the plague. Amauter does not even come close. Artificial product, artificial billling, artificial everything.
Disgusting thieves with non-existent customer service
Disgusting thieves with non-existent customer service. I know how to architect, code, prompt - but even after reading Replit guides and following their AI-generated support guidelines - with our best coders to assist you'll ask it do to the same thing in 50 ways and it'll either do nothing or something completely different - all while (a) claiming to have done it, and (b) billing you for it.
Wanna email support? Well you'll either get an AI response, or a "we're so busy" or absolutely nothing. We have lost sales through promising what should easily have been achievable.
And yes, we've refactored and done pretty much everything else that experienced coders / techs / testers / architects would do.
Seriously - don't waste your money, it's great for pretty mock-ups but an absolute thief for anything more.
BEWARE - $$Owner$$ Is Disinterested In Customers
It cost me hundreds of dollars to have it fix its own error with a button. So I found the owner's email and wrote him, and oh boy did he write back with an attitude, telling me he doubts that's true. I showed him the proof and then him and his team ghosted me. Given they control the servers, databases, hosting and they lock you into a monthly fee with unlimited billing abilities, I would never trust them to have my back after putting in several months of time into building anything on the platform. Cool tech when it works, but there are so many other companies able to do this now and the big question you need to ask yourself is, if/when you have a problem, what will happen when they pop an attitude with you, send you a large bill that you can't even dispute or track, and then they have control over the hosting and ghost you. I know the owner thinks he is all that, but in business you have to consider the people that are paying your way to success also and that's why you see so many horror stories already about this company.
The app itself is ok, but beware the company
The app itself is ok. You end up repeating a lot of commands when the app decides to go its own way in design. The company itself is not good. I had an active subscription with available credits when the app told me I had to pay more. After asking why to the billing department they brushed me off like its because I hadn’t paid my subscription. After showing evidence of my payment and when their own app saying i had active credits. They just refused to reply. Save yourself a headache and don’t use these guys.
Really a gimmick
Really a gimmick. The builder is not as rich as they advertise it to be. Basic level stuff. The cancellation process is like trying to extract teeth from an ape. Three individual people told me the billing cycle had been cancelled. Less than 4 hours later my account got hammered and I was sent payment reminders. I had to use colourfully language for their clearly sleeping admin team to deal with my solution. Will not be returning. Plus these people will delete your live database whilst in production, and say "awww we did a big oopsie" give you no recourse and shut your support request.
I strongly suggest you find a builder that is worth the inconvenience and headache. It won't be Replit.
Replit usage billing - Deceptive?
I noticed that my bank account had been debited by Replit twice in 36 hours. I exceeded my monthly credit of $25 and had set my usage alert for $25, which I hit 2 days later. My monthly usage budget alert was set for $100 and a week on I did NOT trigger that alert. When I checked my bank account and the Usage billing Overview my cumulative spend since August 1st is now almost $150!
I promptly contacted customer support and was told (quote) "Your monthly budget of $100 acts as a hard cap on your total monthly spending. If your spending meets or exceeds this budget, you'll receive an email notification and usage-based services will be temporarily suspended. This protects you from exceeding your set budget limit.". I never received that notification.
What I subsequently learnt is that Replit charges your account then resets your "additional usage" spend to $0!
You could effectively spend over $1,000 per month and never trigger your usage budget.
I am most concerned that customer service (chatbots) then attempted to gaslight me when challenged.
If Replit engages in this type of behavior, is it possible their AI Agents are tasked to manufacture errors and hallucinations to generate increased compute power for revenue raising?
After the article from July 25 titled "The Replit AI Disaster", my confidence and trust in this company has dissipated.
Replit: The Hidden Fee Trap – Avoid This Platform At All Costs!
My recent experience with Replit has left me seething with anger and disappointment, and I feel compelled to share my story to prevent others from falling into the same trap.
Without any warning whatsoever, Replit suddenly deducted US$50 from my bank account. When I inquired with their support, I was informed it was a "usage-based charge for resources consumed beyond what's included in your Core subscription." This is absolutely outrageous! I had no indication that I was approaching or exceeding any limits. Their solution? "You can set up usage alerts and budgets to prevent this from happening in the future." This is completely backwards! These alerts should be enabled by default, not something I discover after being unfairly charged! It's a clear attempt to profit from user ignorance.
Beyond the predatory billing, the functionality of the platform itself is deeply flawed. Every single app I attempted to create or "play around with" on Replit was broken. Core features often didn't work as advertised, making the entire experience a frustrating waste of time and effort.
When I rightfully demanded a full refund for a charge that was never adequately communicated or justified, Replit's support hid behind their Terms of Service, claiming "usage-based charges... are non-refundable." This is a completely unacceptable stance, especially when their platform delivered such poor functionality and failed to provide basic transparency around potential costs.
I have closed my account and will never use Replit again. Their business practices are deceptive, their platform is unreliable, and their customer service is unhelpful. Save yourself the headache and the money – look for a different coding platform.
If there was a negative star, I would give that…
If there was a negative I would give this platform and company that!
Really bad customer service/support if they ever respond! Charges do not make any sense and do not tie back up to their usage and billing!
Their agent vs Assistant is useless and its all about just charging you to create bad code or not even create code but tell you it is done and the same issue or error!
One time I managed to connect with one of their developers and he blamed me and my code that was the issue for the errors. I told him, I did not write a single line of code and it was all their Agent's coding and that was the last I heard from that knucklehead.
Finally after many months of trying to rebuild an app multiple times with heavy costs, I tried to put it live into their production for a cost and it did not want to work. It is very funny, their platform, their coding agent, their database, their everything and then their own hosting and it doesn't work!
This is a scam and I am going put an official compliant to BBB and I am going to connect with more people and Youtubers to get people to see how big of a scam this company is!!!!!
Agent, Assistant and Monthly Credits Information
My overall experience with the Replit Agent was positive so far. I have developed software in other languages, but I'm new to React and Node.js backends, which forces me to craft precise prompts to minimize manual adjustments. This is actually beneficial for my goal of testing how far I can go with AI-only development, as it removes the temptation to manually tweak the code.
I had start over twice because my descriptions were too general and the Agent implemented features that I did not explicitly ask for. Adding one small feature at a time - each on a separate branch - with very specific instructions, yielded much better results. I’m still in the early stages of the app; it remains to be seen whether this approach will hold up with more complex features later on.
Areas for improvement:
- Unauthorized Code Changes by Assistant: When I ask how something could be implemented, the Assistant sometimes modifies code without my knowledge and approval. In one case, it deleted lines, silently created a git checkpoint, and then proceeded to suggest further edits—only requesting approval for the later suggestions. Had I not checked the git history, I would not have noticed the deletions.
- The "Monthly Credits" display in the Usage/Billing Overview is misleading. The message "Monthly Credits: $0 used of $25. Resets 4 days" implies, that I have $25 credits available to spend within the next 4 days, after which the credits will expire. However, when I used the Agent for a feature ($2 cost) the amount was deducted from my "Additional credits", revealing that no monthly credits were actually available. Currently I have no Idea when the next cycle will start and I will have credits available again.
Replit technical support
Replit has been the core engine behind building multiple apps for my startup and aside projects — from dashboards to onboarding platforms. Their instant dev environment, their AI agent, and multi-service flexibility made it the fastest platform I’ve ever used to go from idea to working prototype.
What worked brilliantly:
⚡ No setup — just start coding
🤝 Real-time team collaboration
🤖 AI Agent for rapid scaffolding
🔁 Easy backend + frontend builds under one roof
What needs improvement:
💸 Agent checkpoints can quietly rack up costs
🛠️ Autoscale deployments don’t have cost ceilings
📊 Needs better usage visibility & billing control
Support was excellent — they responded fast, offered a refund when things broke, and took my feedback seriously. That alone earns my respect.
I’m staying on Replit Teams and would recommend it for any founder or developer prototyping fast or onboarding new devs. Just disable Agent if you're scaling and control your deployments carefully.
Huge potential. With a few guardrails, Replit could become the default dev OS for startups.
