Con Artists

My partner has been dealing with this company Stillars in Darlington since March. You email them and they don’t reply. You call them and they say they will call you back and they never do. We are done trying to contact them. Unless they are earning money from
You they won’t bother with you. He did this
Company a favour too. They have now left my partner in A LOT OF DEBT. STILLARS LIE! STILLARS ARE CON ARTISTS. DO NOT BOTHER WITH THEM IF YOU HAVE ANY COMMON SENSE!!

Absolutely over the moon with Liam and Alex x

Absolutely over the moon with how hard and determined Alex and Liam were to get me and my Finace moved asap. Worked so so hard and always kept me in the loop so I constantly knew what was happening. Within a week all our paperwork had been done and then within another week we are ready to move in. I asked if we could move our move in date to a little bit sooner and that was no hassle for them considering it's a very big ask I'm so so happy with their constant hard work and a massive well done to Alex the apprentice as I probably had some hard questions and he wasn't stressed or anxious just told me how he would sort it. Keep up the hard work Alex you're fab!! Both always so happy when they answered the phone! Lovely people, so very happy! Charley and Martin xxx

Sue Stubbs found us a great home which…

Sue Stubbs found us a great home which we lived in for over 3yrs,we had a small leak late one evening and sue went above and beyond to send someone out to repair she even called at our home herself to see if we were ok . She is an absolute credit to her profession ,thank you Sue. I would also like to say that every member of staff i ever spoke to were always very helpful polite and courteous, highly recommend sillars .

Never again cost me loads of money do not use them

Do they think landlords have cash to throw away. This agent and most of the staff think so . Smashed house items stolen rent unpaid do I need to go on.never again please don’t let it be you.waiting for some sorry full excuse .

Omission of massive fees for credit checks?!

Had a commercial let agreed with Sillars. As I hesitated at paying £350 plus VAT fee for a credit check(!?), they just agreed to let it to someone else. This is not normal practice. I should know. The main point however is their failure to disclose - in an obvious manner, their fees on their website. This is actually ILLEGAL. I wish I could find out if the landlord knows about this profit generating practice at his expense. Oh and surprise surprise - these guys are not members of the estate agents' association.We need a regulator!

I am sorry to see you have felt the need to make such a damming review about our business and one we have never experienced before. I have spoken with our Lettings team for further information and just to summarise.

I know you had spoken with my colleague Jack who had advised you of our administration charges on commercial properties and he also put your proposal to the landlord who agreed for you to make an application to let. Jack attempted to make contact with you and also sent an email to advise of this. However in the meantime another application was submitted so our clients instructions were to proceed with the applicant that submitted the application first. Our clients are fully aware of all charges we pass onto prospective and current tenants and all tenants are required to read and sign a document outlining our fees and services before the point of application to allow transparency.

In relation to your comment about us not being members of the "Estate Agents Association", I can confirm we are and always have been members of the approved scheme namely "The Property Odmudsman" see link of confirmation of our membership - https://www.tpos.co.uk/find-a-member

My experience with Sillars was dreadful…

My experience with Sillars was dreadful as a landlord, poor tenant checking, guarantor out of the uk, not noticing rent had not been paid for three months, overcharging, errors on management fees, leaving me at a huge loss on my rental properties.

I have contacted them in complaint, they have as yet not replied. My next step, the lettings ombudsman.

Good morning Mrs Plows, we are sorry to see you have felt the need to review our company in this way. I am aware you have made a complaint to our Branch Manager who did immediately acknowledge your complaint and provided a response.

I want to take the time to summarise some of your comments which I believe to be an unfair reflection of our company and we manage approximately 500 properties and our other customers only have positive things to say about our service offering.

With regards to you comment about poor tenant checking etc, I can only assume this comment is unfounded as our referencing is done by a professional third party provider namely Rent4Sure. At the time of referencing the guarantor also completed successful references with that provider.

In relation to the overdue rent I can see your Property Manager did communicate with you on several occasions and did recover monies, albeit we were unsuccessful in full recovery the tenant did vacate the property.

I accept there was a human error in the overcharging of management fee on our system however when highlighted in your complaint we immediately refunded the overcharged amount. I accept this is not ideal but on reflection I feel we have responded to that issue in a fair and appropriate way whilst I do apologies for the error in overcharging.

I can highly recommend Sillars because…

I can highly recommend Sillars because they are providing a professional service complete with local knowledge and people who truly care about doing a great job. Their charges are very reasonable compared to other estate agents too. In the recent past I have had a lot of dealings with other Darlington estate agents, most of whom are not a patch on Sillars. Selling or letting a property is partnership between you and the agent, and if you do your bit to spruce up your property and make it appealing, Sillars will seal the deal for you. I'm confident of this because they sold our family home last year and our rental property, one at the asking price and one extremely close. Brilliant!

The staff are friendly and very helpfull.

The staff are always helpfull and polite especially Sue who always returns calls promptly and resolves any issues I may have with our properties, she keeps me informed and up to date with our tenancies. I have also spoken with Sam who I find is also very friendly and helpful.

sillars letting agents

Jack is the main person I deal with in the team at sillars and as letting agents go they are one of the best I have dealt for many years nothing is to much trouble.
Always seem happy to help and get any problems sorted asap.
Carry on the good work guys thumps up from us.

Excellent Agency

I wouldn't think twice about recommending people to use them too!!

This is my first time dealing with Sillar's properties and I wouldn't think twice about recommending people to use them too.. I dealt mostly with Jack throughout my application process and he was very helpful, very professional and nothing seemed too much trouble to him. Even after the application process was over he has been there to give a helping hand when needed. I have also spoken with Sam who has also been very professional and always willing to help when needed. Its nice to finally be with a company that puts me at ease and I know I don't have anything to worry about. Thank you :)

Friendly, kind and professional

All the staff at Sillars that I have spoken to have been unbeliveably helpful, kind and professional. My property manager Sam has been fantastic and Jack and Liam were great through the letting process. Nothing has ever been too big or too small. Thank you! :)

The team

Great team to deal with..thanks

Having dealt with other estate agents it was refreshing to find an agent that was both very helpful and very reasonable. They provided a good number of potential purchasers and from the start sensible friendly advice.
Liaising with both firms of solicitors they provided us with the full sales package that made selling through Sillars stress free.
This company is well recommended to anyone contemplating selling their property.
