Easy to compare prices and coverage. Options were clearly explained.

This site was referred by Google AI search. It gave me a list of insurance companies with many options. The site alone is strict forward and easy to use. However, I have to go back-and-forth to provide AI my insurance criteria then back to Squaremouth to refine my search. It would be nice if AI-powered inquiries can be built as part of the Squaremouth website.

I am extraordinarily disappointed with Squaremouth and the way they handled what I believe was a very reasonable request.

I purchased a travel insurance policy for a European river cruise. Unfortunately, I was recently notified that I am required to appear as a witness at a court hearing that conflicts with our trip. This was obviously something completely outside of my control.

I initially filed a claim for $20,650. However, the cruise line was gracious enough to work with me, allowing us to bank the money we had paid and apply it toward a future cruise. As a result, I withdrew my claim. Squaremouth therefore did not have to pay the $20,650 claim.

Given that outcome, I thought it was entirely reasonable to ask Squaremouth to simply transfer my insurance coverage to the rescheduled cruise. Instead, they refused.

Their explanation was that their "strict underwriting policy" only allows the trip to be moved if travel is completed within one year of the original policy purchase date. The problem is that I purchased the insurance well in advance because the cruise was a Christmas gift for my wife. I received notice of the court hearing only very recently, and it is simply not practical for us to schedule and complete another European river cruise before December 2026.

What disappoints me most is the complete lack of flexibility or apparent interest in finding a reasonable solution. I wasn't asking Squaremouth to pay my $20,650 claim. I withdrew that claim. I was simply asking them to apply the $1,636 premium I had already paid toward coverage of the same trip on its new date.

The agent I spoke with seemed increasingly annoyed that I continued to ask whether something could be done and offered no meaningful solution other than repeatedly citing their underwriting rules.

So, after saving Squaremouth from paying a $20,650 claim, I am apparently left with a $1,636 insurance policy that is completely worthless to me.

Policies and underwriting rules certainly have their place, but customer service is demonstrated by how a company responds when unusual circumstances arise. In my case, when I genuinely needed Squaremouth to work with me, they simply refused.

I am now left trying to recover the $1,636 I paid for coverage I cannot use. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Squaremouth.

I believe this process was simple and straightforward. I hope I don't have to use it!
