Honestly, are we in 2005? This is the kind of service where you get automatically upgraded to a package without clearly being asked, support feels completely disconnected, and every reply seems to start from zero because previous communication is not properly consolidated.
Trying to exit your contract? Good luck finding out how.
The whole experience feels outdated, frustrating and not customer-oriented at all. I would seriously recommend choosing another provider. GoDaddy, for example, feels 100000x more modern and user-friendly.

I bought a server from them. Server quality and speed is good. But there isn't any support section at all. I can't access to them! No support email, no support ticket system!

Got information about coming payments, and if payment is not received in full in a certain date my domains will be released. Which was fine, as soon as I got late on the payment initially I was blocked from terminating my contract, but as the invoice and mail that came with it suggested it would be terminated due to failure of payment anyway.
So, thinking it convenient I assumed it would sort itself out.
But then a got a demand payment letter for another year, and I could only terminate that deal after I paid for a full year, of a service I am not going to use. I couldn't just pay for the overdue months, force payment for a full year.
Yes, I was a bit lazy, I will own up to that, but not very clear information in the mail encouraged me to just skip paying and I will lose the domains anyway, worst case scenario I get to pay for 1 or 2 months for the time it was technically overdue.
A bit scammy, not recommended what so ever.
As I know am paying for two domains for another year which I had to terminate from this date, so I am paying for something I will have no access to anyway.

STRATO EMAIL PRODUCT IS UNUSABLE
I tried to use an external domain with my email hosted on STRATO and it was just impossible. On normal hosts they just give you an MX record and youre done on STRATO its impossible. THIS SUCKS!!!!!!
ALSO THIS IS ABSOLUTELY BASIC FUNCTIONALITY THAT SHOULD BE STANDARD ON ANY HOSTING PROVIDER. I WANT A REFUND!!!!!
I called the customer service to ask them to cancel the email product. The person there said they would forward my call to the cancellation department. After which she just hung up.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE.

they have a bug since i got my first…
they have a bug since i got my first domain 2025 and no official way to report it seemingly. i have a problem with my email aliases, which get overriden constantly when i try to change something.
Correction:
-the support got in touch and it seems the error was on my behalf, because my browser was overwriting existing data automatically.

STRATO Homepage Design & Pflege-Service Plus: 8 weeks in – no website, no access
I submitted a scope of work and all requested content on time and was told delivery would take 6-8 weeks. Today, after 8 weeks a feedback meeting was scheduled.
The link to the draft web site sent on Friday provided no log in details. And, it was only after several emails to the design team that I received information (days later) on a different way to view the site.
But, the preview only showed a “site still being processed” message, with no content visible. When questioned about how it was possible for me to provide feedback without having seen the content prior to the feedback session, again I received no response to emails.
Communication was equally concerning. Today, (for the second time) I was told I was “not reachable by phone,” despite confirming my number with the support team via email and the web designer. No missed calls, no follow-up, and emails and hotline queries went unanswered.
Overall:
- no reviewable website
- no access to a usable draft
- poor and inaccurate communication
I cannot recommend this service.
Update (17.04.2026):
No one has contacted me regarding my complaint. Despite the lack of delivery, payment has been requested. Clients are required to sign a contract before the design process begins. Due to scheduling of initial appointments, the statutory withdrawal period expires before any meaningful work is delivered or reviewable. At this stage, I have neither a website nor evidence of progress, but I am being asked to pay.
I will be escalating this matter to the relevant consumer protection authorities due to failure to fulfill contractual obligations.
i strongly advise caution before entering into an agreement with STRATO.

Absolute nightmare experience. Would not recommend.
I have been a STRATO customer for years, and the way this company handles its customers at the end of a contract is frankly unacceptable.
The support process is slow, opaque, and clearly not designed to help customers in edge cases. There is no live chat, no urgent escalation path, and no accountability.

I also tried calling support, but the operator only speaks German and English, which I do not speak. It is impossible to contact support by email without having access to the account. It is unclear why the process is made so complicated for new customers. Very frustrating experience

bad service!
Have the "hosting basic" package, 5 domains inclusive... or so I thought, when I tried to order one it showed as available and I received a confirmation email, that I had successfully booked it... after 6 hours, I got another email, saying that the domain was not available and that there has been an error... now I try to get another domain, but it does not display any free for booking any more... customer support is not reachable... very bad experience!

Ive tried to transfer my domain to strato for over two weeks now. Its stuck in some kind of limbo and the support have not been able to fix it.
Mostly get answers from their support like "we are working on it" "we dont really know what wrong, wait some more".
Totally unacceptable, Im not happy at all. Causes me a lot of headache.

Had a very negative experience with this company, particularly involving Maximilian, who claims to be the CEO of Strato. I completed a job assignment as agreed but never received the promised payment, and all communication stopped afterward.
I also tried reaching out through mail, but unfortunately received no response, which added to my disappointment.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend sharing any financial details or engaging in payment transactions with this company until it demonstrates greater transparency and reliability.

Best VPS in the world
If you know what you're doing and don't need help.
They got the best VPS in the world. I got multiple for more then a year and they all got 100% uptime. No overcrowding, great internet speed and awesome prices.
*Don't understand the price difference between .nl and .de tho. VC 4-8 is 10 euro at .nl and 6,10 at .de (with VAT).
Tested the Hi-Drive 1 TB
Bought the Hi-Drive 1 TB, free for 12 months. They sell that as a "Drive" so you would expect SMB and SSH connection comes with it for integration in your Mac. Far from it!!! You would have to buy SMB and SSH separately. Sorry, definitely not a smart product packaging. Canceled it after two hours exploration.

Never ever use Strato
Never ever use Strato.
Our credit card expired during vacation time and the service naturally stopped. However- calling them after vacation when staff was back our account was closed and server deleted. NO way to get it back.
ONLY was to get service via a German phone number. Not even via email.
Now we cannot login to pay the outstanding. So need to pay via bank. And bank states “Account does not exist”.
Actually a great product we loved to use - but a SHIT service.

Absolute bonkers! I've bought many domains for different providers from all around the world. But I have never experienced service this bad.
It took them three days to assign a domain (🤯). I wanted to use Cloudflare nameservers with my domain. But it was impossible. No matter what I tried, it just said there was an error. And the service personnel weren't beneficial in this regard.
