Embarrassment for Germany
I am thoroughly convinced that the city of Bonn is trying to get people to NOT use public transit. For at least 5 months now, SWB/VRS has proven that they do not care about their customers or people who do not have cars. Just trying to take the gentle 25 minute bus ride into town has become one of the most stressful, time consuming, and unnecessary parts of my day. Forget about all the endless strikes, which only harm poor people who are trying to get to work. Those with cars can just jump in their vehicles when SWB/VRS chooses to just not provide transit for most days of the week. What I've noticed is that this abysmal quality of service from SWB has nothing to do with the strikes: even on non-strike days, like today and yesterday, a 25 minute ride on the bus or the subway turned into 1.5 hours each way. The buses were not running, so I ran to the subway and was given the same grim result. I am US American, and my small home city has better transit than Bonn could even dream of, which is saying a lot! You should be embarrassed, the entire image of the quality of your city is rapidly dropping. Specifically because of SWB, I will be looking for a new job in a different German city soon because after all this time I am convinced that SWB will never attempt to improve their services, and it is taking a deep toll on my professional life. I do not want to live in the city center where I could walk to work: I want to get to work on time with a bus that shows up when it says it will show up, or at least be running at all! I am extremely exhausted having to get up an extra hour early because the buses and trains in my city only function sometimes, randomly.
