The cost of 190 a year just to park and paddle board locally is insanely high. No wonder no locals are using it, there is all sorts of complaints that people don't get out these days and they spend all their time on xbox or PlayStation. Its no suprise when they wall off financial availability by doing so. They could easily gain more as a business model by attracting people in and providing services coffee's and other things. Some money would be better than none.

A disappointing experience

Very difficult to get to from North Devon - roads are narrow and full of potholes!
Roadford Lake itself is very pretty, but, you cannot, (as it claimed on the website) walk all the way around the lake (13 miles). You can walk a mile either way from the cafe, either to the Activity Centre to to the Sundial (shabby), the old hut (in poor repair and no information as to why it's special) and the bird hide (nicely built but no birds to view). After the hide there's a huge quagmire with no way around it! Very disappointing. Also there is a LOT of dog mess on and around the paths - you have to be careful where you put your feet. And, even though there are signs everywhere saying dogs must be on leads, about 50% of the people with dogs we met, allowed their dogs to run off the lead which is very intimidating. One dog was even chasing a squirrel! So much for looking after the wildlife.
It's not as described on the website and the people who use the paths obviously have no intention of looking after the place at all. Won't be returning.
