Scotland land tour
Scotland land tour. Excellent hotels, food, staff and tour director, but the large bus tour itself was somewhat pedestrian. The quality of the local tour guides and experiences varied widely with an over emphasis on the same historical period. Toward the end, we were just waiting for the tour to be over. Scotland and its history have more to offer than this tour displayed.
Italy was Fabulous, Tauck not So Fabulous!
We recently returned from Tauck’s Naples, Capri & Amalfi Coast journey, and I wanted to share our experience for other travelers considering spending a significant amount on a luxury guided trip.
We are experienced travelers and understand that not every room will have the best view and that unexpected things can happen while traveling. My disappointment was not about expecting perfection. It was about value and expectations.
For a trip positioned and priced at this level, we expected a truly elevated experience. Instead, several of our hotel room assignments were disappointing, including a room in Amalfi located next to the road after hearing so much about the spectacular coastal setting. Our previous rooms had also fallen short of what we expected from a premium itinerary.
While we enjoyed some wonderful experiences—Herculaneum was a highlight, Capri is spectacular, and the Amalfi Coast itself is breathtaking—we often felt that the overall experience did not match the premium price. Some of the touring, meals and organization felt much more like what we could have arranged ourselves with private drivers and excellent local guides.
Perhaps most disappointing was what happened afterward. I contacted Tauck directly and explained our experience in detail. The representative listened and took notes, which I appreciated, but there was no meaningful gesture toward a future Tauck journey or acknowledgment that might encourage us to give the company another opportunity.
For travelers considering this particular itinerary, especially those accustomed to upscale or luxury travel, I would strongly suggest researching the hotels, room categories, included experiences and costs carefully and comparing them with what you could arrange independently or with another company which I would highly recommend.
Italy was absolutely beautiful, and we created some wonderful memories. My disappointment isn’t with the destination—it is that the Tauck experience did not deliver the level of value we expected for the price we paid.
I wish I had read a review like this before booking, which is why I’m sharing ours.

We have cruised on two Tauck trips. One to Iceland and the other to Alaska. The cruise line to Iceland was on the Ponnant. Our first night was a joke. We had to ask to speak to the manager because we hadn’t received our dinner almost 2 hours after placing our order. The manager simply replied “THESE THINGS HAPPEN!” We had to ask her to get our orders so we could eat that evening. She was ready to dismiss this event without making sure we were properly fed. Another couple at the next table experienced the same treatment and when she replied “These Things Happen”, they became so enraged they stormed off. Our cabin butler was non-existent and would actually avoid us when seeing us in our corridor. This was noted to the Tauck Tour Director when it happened and when we departed. Yet, no response from Tauck Customer Service regarding the treatment we received on the Ponnant nor Ponnant Cruise Lines.
The second cruise was on the Silver Moon with Silversea. We had numerous issues and reported them to our Tauck cruise leader. He assured me someone from Silversea would promptly follow up with us regarding our concerns. After waiting 10 days, I followed up with our cruise leader re: status. Another 4 days have lapsed and no response from neither Tauck nor Silversea.
We had tentatively booked another trip with Tauck to Switzerland next year, but after our most recent experience with Tauck, we’ll probably cancel and use another service.

I need to be removed from the mailing list. The automated phone menu is insuffienct and doesn't function properly to get through to the right representative or any representative. It cuts out prematurely. Went online to complete contact form. The verification box is 50% cut off so your can't complete it to get the form sent. If it is this difficult to reach the company for such a simple request, I can''t imagine having to make travel arrangements if I actually wanted to travel.
Misleading Solo Info, Severe Downgrades, and Safety Lapses on Tauck Rhine Cruise
I spent nearly $9,000 on Tauck's "Rhine, Swiss Alps & Amsterdam" cruise expecting a premium luxury experience, but faced serious operational and communication failures.
Left Behind in Lucerne Switzerland: Prior to a private boat tour of Lake Lucerne, the group had a bathroom break but was never told which dock we were departing from. While everyone was using a public bathroom, I stepped away about 20 feet to take a couple of scenic photos by the sea wall. About 90 seconds later, I turned around to see no one left in line and had no idea which direction the group went? I ran to the only visible docks, only to find out the tours left from completely different docks a good 10-minute run away. The boat departed without me because staff failed to do a headcount at boarding. The boat did turn around to get me but being abandoned especially as solo female traveler was deeply distressing.
Material Itinerary Downgrades: Due to low water, our E-bike tour was replaced with a long bus ride and short visit to Rudesheim. The Rhine castle tour was moved to a crowded public ferry with no ice and inaudible PA system on a scorching day. During the ship swap, luggage baked in extreme heat, melting specialty chocolates, cheeses and risking the efficacy of my prescription medications. They did reimburse for those items.
Misleading Sales: Sales promised several single/solo travelers on this sailing. In reality, I was the only completely solo traveler out of 134 guests. The other six "singles" were decades older and traveling together, making the trip very isolating at times.
The Response: I requested a fair and partial cash refund, but Tauck defended every matter. They refused a cash refund, offering only a $750 future travel voucher given to all guests. Because of the safety oversight and isolation, I cannot recommend Tauck to independent solo travelers.
Terrible attitude from guide
I experienced a very, very poor attitude from one of their tour guides.
I wouldn’t recommend Tauck tours to anyone.
I recently completed Tauck’s eight-day…
I recently completed Tauck’s eight-day Nova Scotia tour, and unfortunately it did not meet the expectations created by the company’s advertising.
My biggest criticism is that the marketing does not accurately reflect the experience. The website presents this as a premium, first-class tour, but that was not my experience.
The motorcoach was an ordinary tour bus—the same type commonly used on much less expensive tours. Since we spent many hours on the bus, comfortable seating was important, and I found it lacking. That affected my enjoyment of the entire trip.
The included meals were another disappointment. Healthy options were limited, and I rarely finished a meal. Looking around the dining room, I noticed many other guests also left much of their food uneaten.
The sightseeing itself was underwhelming. Much of the itinerary consisted of well-known tourist stops that could easily be visited independently. I expected more unique experiences and behind-the-scenes access—things that would justify choosing an organized premium tour.
The accommodations were acceptable, and they may well represent some of the better options available in Nova Scotia. However, they still did not match the first-class image that Tauck’s advertising creates.
My final disappointment involved the airport transfer. My flight was at 4:50 p.m., yet the group was dropped off at the airport around 10:00 a.m. While Tauck advertises that airport transfers are included, requiring guests to spend nearly seven hours waiting at the airport is, in my opinion, an unreasonable interpretation of that promise.
Overall, my concern is less about any single issue than about the gap between the marketing and the actual experience. If the tour were advertised honestly as a good-quality, standard coach tour, my expectations would have been different. Instead, I felt the company oversold the experience, and that lack of transparency left me disappointed. Ethics is missing within Tauck.
Food was bland. Organization was terrible.
Food was bland, boring and no variety. Our tour director always seemed flustered and overwhelmed. I wonder if those who post positive reviews about Tauck have been on a Viking or similar cruise? The staff attitudes made us feel as if we were in their way. Training on Viking is superior to Tauck and so is the food and organization.
Not our cup of tea…
We were very much looking forward to out tour of Rome and Sorrento. Huge disappointment—especially for the cost. Not at all what you should expect. The tour was at an exhausting pace. The local guides were very good, tour leader was somewhat surly. Accommodations were ok, nothing special. Food was lousy….but we did find exceptional food when we strolled away from the tour. Very mediocre experience at a very high cost. We’ll not be using their services again.
This was my 5th Tauck trip (Great…
This was my 5th Tauck trip (Great Britain, Scotland, Wales) and I was absolutely shocked at the rude, superior and condescending manner of the Tour Director, Andres S., who faintly expresses his dislike for North Americans as evidenced by his repeated negative comments about American tourists. He is a South American living in Great Britian. Three times on the tour guests were left behind due to his failure to account for their presence prior to the bus departing locations. He was garrulous to a fault describing his personal preferences where we would tune him out, and when I queried him about a point his answer was "I already told you that". This was a demeaning response to a guest, especially on a very high-end tour. During the tour, he entered into a heated argument with a guest couple who had been left behind where due to the escalating tension in front of other guests I had to personally separate him from that couple to defuse the situation. I feel that this experience does not reflect our Tauck prior experience, and we have rebooked another tour. This was a failure of the Tour Director to understand his clientele, and I feel that he is unsuitable to work with high-end guests. My comments were expressed to Tauck management, and travel vouchers were issued for future trips. The trip was salvaged by my wife and I by completely ignoring the Tour Director and doing what we wished to do, rather than follow his suggestions to frequent his vendors of choice. Caveat emptor.
Five great experiences
We have taken five Tauck small group tours (India, Spain, Portugal, southern France and Canadian Rockies) and have enjoyed all of them and recommend them all. India and the Canadian Rockies (just back from it) were particular standouts and which we would highly recommend. Great rooms with views, great tour directors and local guides and interesting itinerarries. We have always bought the insurance but never have had to use it.
Expensive MLM experience
I just got back from a river cruise down the Rhine with a small side quest down the Moselle River.
Positives: the staff were friendly, food, numerous excursions.
Honestly, this tour company is heavily geared towards American travellers. Also, it had a heavy MLM feel with them talking about Tauck being a family, and constantly thanking each other and stroking each other’s egos.
This was a very very expensive trip, and there were costly fees to do laundry. A lot of people were washing socks and underwear in their sinks. I would not expect this from a luxury cruise.
We were on the top floor in one of the nicest rooms. The boat was so loud and vibrated so much that I feel fatigued from not sleeping and just from being on the trip.
Also, during the trip my family went in the hot tub on the top of the boat and got paint from the hot tub all over ourselves. They were quite dismissive and didn’t offer us a discount or really anything to make it right. It was pretty disappointing. They then emptied the tub, supposedly cleaned it, refilled it… said it was fixed. I ran my finger along the side the next day and got chemical paint residue on myself. Needless to say, I gave up.
Overall, we made the best of the trip, but the pace of the excursions were too slow.

Just got back from a tour of Italy that was amazing. For starters our tour guide Andrea was outstanding that set the pace. Hotels were great, balance of personal time was perfect, sights were amazing. This was my first tour and highly recommend Tauck.
I have been on 13 different Tauck…
I have been on 13 different Tauck tours. I have loved everyone. I am shocked to read so many negative reviews. Some things cannot be helped. The rooms in Paris are smaller than normal. I am a travel agent and love Tauck. when I read through the reviews that are so negative, what comes to mind is the people themselves must be poor travelers. Nothing is perfect.
I did the Grand Australia & New Zealand…
I did the Grand Australia & New Zealand tour
What was meant to be a cultural journey quickly became an exercise in frustration. The tour leader had no real knowledge of the destinations, and a chronic nasal issue made his already vague explanations nearly impossible to understand.
Time was wasted shamelessly. We stood in front of an unremarkable street sculpture for nearly 30 minutes, trapped in an unsolicited, meandering history lecture. Then, inexplicably, we were taken to a war museum showcasing World War I planes from Europe, on the other side of the planet. Baffling. The itinerary felt stitched together without logic, padded with stops that had no business being there.
An obscene amount of time was spent in transit, shuttling endlessly between these pointless locations, draining both energy and patience.
Evenings offered no escape. Confined to private hotel dining rooms with the same group, cut off entirely from local life, with alcohol flowing freely for those who wanted it. I did not travel this far to sit in a closed room with other tourists. I came for culture, for atmosphere, for the soul of a place, and found none of it.
Let me be clear: this company caters to those with no curiosity, no taste, and no desire to truly experience anything. It is travel reduced to passive consumption, moving from one forgettable stop to another without understanding or engagement.
Never again!
Tauck keeps insurance payment and does not hold their vendor accountable
Booked a tour to Israel-Jordan through Tauck Tours scheduled for November of 2026. Their representative convinced me to buy their trip insurance even though no money would be due at all until about 90 days prior to the tour (August 26). Tauck called yesterday to inform us that the Israel Tour was canceled (and rightly so - no problem there). The problem lies in them not refunding the trip insurance that was never used at all since the tour never started and no money was ever paid for the trip itself (except the trip insurance). The Tauck rep said their vendor wouldn't refund the money. Well that's not my problem that's a Tauck problem. They sold the insurance as Tauck, they didn't send me to a different company or site to purchase the insurance so in essence this is Tauck insurance. This is a case where having trip insurance was more costly for a canceled trip than if I had never purchased the insurance at all. If I had canceled the trip no problem keep my money, but Tauck canceled it. When I was in business I had vendors that on occasion needed to step up to satisfy a customer due to their problems, mistakes, or policies because my company's reputation depended on us being fair to the customer and not hiding behind a vendor like Tauck is doing here. Tauck also promised someone from management would call to discuss and that didn't happen as well. They had a low level marketing person call because some executive or manager didn't want to deal with a customer with a valid complaint (Refund what you owe me for a trip that didn't and is never going to take place). Tauck rep told me "I NEEDED TO UNDERSTAND"..... and my response was as the client, "NO, TAUCK NEEDS TOUNDERSTAND ME". They graciously (sarcasm) said the insurance payment could be used against another Tauck trip (with a short time limit as well). My wife and I already have trips booked out a year+ in advance. Not only do I not have the opening for another Tauck trip we now seriously don't want a trip with Tauck and never will again. Tauck and their "vendor" are not out a dime if they refund my payment as there was absolutely no out of pocket cost to them for their cancellation. Tauck will never see one more dime of my money ever. .......Fool me once shame on you..,.."
Fantastic Tours
Have taken 4 Tauck trips. Just booked our fifth. Latest one was Sept 2025 to Egypt and Jordan. It was fantastic! My only and MAIN issue is the fact that they need to make their website better. It does not work well with an IPad. I need to constantly say forgot password each time I log on. It really is exasperating. I do hope this gets to them for an IT fix! Trying to enter required info is likewise problematic. Hope that they can become user friendly for mobile devices.
We just returned from our first Tauck…
We just returned from our first Tauck trip, A Week in Spain. We had a wonderful experience. We stayed in 5 star hotels, our tour director was first class, we made some new friends, and the amount of tours versus free time was just right. We will be booking future Tauck tours.
We went on a 8 day Ireland trip for 2
We went on a 8 day Ireland trip for 2. It was amazing! Tauck did a great job. We had 5 star hotels in great location. We also had 5 star meals. Our tour guide and bus driver were also great. Tauck delivered on what they told us. If I had any suggestions I would allow extra time at Blarney Castle or get there a little earlier. Also, another 30 minutes at the Cliffs of Moher. Other than that everything seemed very well organized.
Needs improvement
Just got back...great guides and driver. But accommodations were not great...needs hotels with better bedding and AC. Fixed meals need improvement also.
