Difficult cancellation process that may conflict with EU consumer law
I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Testaankoop deserves a clear warning to other consumers.
While subscribing is straightforward and fully digital, cancelling is unnecessarily complicated. Instead of offering a direct and immediate way to terminate your subscription, Testaankoop requires you to fill out a contact form and then wait for them to get back to you. This creates an avoidable delay and removes control from the user. In practice, you cannot simply decide “I want to cancel now” and have it take effect immediately.
This approach appears to conflict with European consumer protection principles, particularly those introduced under the Omnibus Directive (Directive (EU) 2019/2161), which emphasize that cancelling a contract should be as easy as concluding it. If a subscription can be activated online in a few clicks, the same level of simplicity should apply to termination. Requiring additional steps, human intervention, or waiting periods introduces friction that these rules are specifically designed to prevent.
The issue is not the existence of a form itself, but the fact that the process is not instantaneous. A compliant setup would allow users to cancel directly through their account or via a clear “cancel subscription” option, with immediate confirmation. Here, however, the process depends on follow-up communication, which undermines transparency and efficiency.
For an organization that positions itself as a defender of consumer rights, this is particularly disappointing. Consumers should not have to navigate unnecessary barriers to exercise a basic right.
Until this process is aligned with modern EU standards for digital subscriptions, I cannot recommend this service.
