An extremely frustrating experience with TutorLMS, like many, I was swayed by good reviews and their market dominance. However, after purchasing the Pro License for a year, a couple of months after my license expired they released 3.0 which produces a fatal error for all inactive pro users. Now, both free users of their site and Pro subscribers have survived the update without a hitch. In my case, and reading online it’s shared by many, I have had held a Pro subscription before and as a result the update has caused aforementioned ‘fatal error.’
None of my lessons will load, the screen appears with errors all over it, rendering over 1000 hours of work useless and over 50+ active students unable to access their courses. I run both comercial and humanitarian teaching from the platform, so the downtime has affected many people.
Now, I’m quite tech savvy and an understanding guy, I try to rollback the update, but with auto update on my previous backups, the plugin updates inevitably update to 3.0, and then 3.001. My entire website is up and running without an issue, yet the TutorLMS plugin no longer works after updating to 3.0 automatically. When contacting sales, they don’t allow you to open a support ticket without an ‘active’ subscription, they refuse to give any technical help, then keep repeating that you have to buy another license to have the issue fixed.
Not being subscribed to the Pro license means that you are ineligible for new advanced features which they develop, completely understandable and agreeable. Yet after having paid 199€ just over a year ago, I do not expect that they rollout a “free” update rendering ONLY non-active pro members’ systems UNUSABLE, and then proceed to use it as a marketing ploy to get those same people who have already invested in their product to pay for another year to have their course platform functional again.
It has literally felt that Tutor LMS has held my online academy randsom for over a week, refusing to provide an explanation, never mind support, in fixing an issue that is strangely affecting not free users, not current Pro users, but users who have previously bought a year’s license. Sounds like a marketing ploy, and a cheap one at that. Malpractice TutorLMS, I run a small developing business and was saving to buy a lifetime license from you guys, but after this. Lack of support, pushing a sale instead of fixing ‘fatal error,’ and refusing to help a paying customer is so far from the company you used to be.
I will be switching to LearnDash after trusting in you guys for years with a heavy heart.
I wouldn’t be drawn in by their 50% off Black Friday offers for one-year license owners, I highly discourage against them. Because although it states that the license will give you access to all pro features for 12 months, it won’t continue to function afterwards and they will seemingly intentionally force you to resubscribe if you don’t want to lose all your time and effort.
Yours Sincerely,
An incredibly frustrated, and betrayed, client.

Regardless of your policy, it is both questionable and encroaching on malpractice that you offer 1-Year Subscriptions to your Pro features, and then “force” users to resubscribe through updates which render every part of their platform unusable unless they subscribe again.
Your free version works fine.
Your pro version works fine.
But for customers who have purchased pro features in the past, their versions are rendered unusable unless they pay for another license.
Support would not be needed if this fatal error wasn’t introduced to your ‘free’ update. And knowing that it wasn’t an isolated issue, you should have rolled out a fix in 3.001.
Is this a planned obsolescence marketing technique? Because I can find no other explanation.

The most admirable thing is that the team is always up and doing. I see passion all through.
By far, Tutor LMS remains the best in the e-learning ecosystem.
And with their addiction to growth and improvements, they will remain the best for a very long time.

Not to be relied upon as a primary partner for business. Personally I cannot even recommend TutorLMS for a hobby site.
A major update was announced without a beta testing period included.
A week before the release was due, they announced it wouldn’t be going live, and then launched a testing version, with a new release date. The new release date has passed and no 3rd release date has been announced.

I recently encountered a problem where the free version Tutor LMS was only showing "What's New" and "Get Pro" on my website, and I was completely stuck. I couldn’t access the full features of the plugin and tried various solutions without success. Frustrated, I reached out to the support team, and I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly they responded.
Their assistance was prompt and professional, and they resolved the issue efficiently, helping me regain full functionality of Tutor LMS. I’m truly grateful for their quick help and excellent customer service.
Thank you for the quick help and great support!

I have to say incredible plugin, whilst I am not a full time developer i struggled with alot of the coding etc..
The plugin was easy to use, clear, a lot of content and documentation available for support,
BUT, When i got really stuck i reached out for help and the agent support just went above and beyond in supporting me to change elements that i was struggling with..
the plugin is easily compatible with paid membership pro and the default page templates and course layouts and functionalities were just bang on, nothing too much and just everything a user needs.
Thankyou.

I was on another LMS but was tempted by someone to switch to Tutor LMS.
That was a mistake.
The product is very basic. It is easy to use and set up but not always very logical. It is okay if you want to create a basic course, but it lacks many functionalities, requiring you to use other plugins. Since the product does not always work well with other plugins, this can easily become a nightmare.
And then, the big problem is support. I don't know if the support is outsourced to a third country or something, but their help is confusing at best and incompetent at worst. Sometimes, I have to write 3, 4, or 5 times to get a simple answer.
For example, right now, since one of my courses is getting large, I asked if there was a way to present it in chunks so it would be easier for the customer to navigate and so it doesn't look so overwhelming (right now, they have a big and long list on the left side, and I would like to keep it shorter).
I've had 3 exchanges over 3 days (because they are pretty slow to answer too) and I still have the impression support didn't understand. The last answer I received is (and I quote):
"The course needs to be broken down manually by you. The plugin does not let you break a 200-lesson course into 9/10 parts of 20 lessons. I hope this is clear."
So I have to do something manually that the course does not let me do?
Many of their answers are at this level, which is a source of irritation and waste of time.
Personally, I would advise you to stay with the free version, and if you need more, use something else because they are not worth the price.

Do not trust them with admin access. I just sent them screenshot where they have been accessing my website after they solved the issues. They changed PayPal payment method. They posted affiliate links posts. I have screenshots of every single move they have done. The thing is, they got the password through form I had to make on their site. No one had the admin information beside them. So unprofessional so sad! Stay away from them. Install admin activity plugin, where only you have access to, so you can find out this kinda things.
Edit: Thank you for the reply, I believe you should protect your customers more, people out there have to know the truth and be more mindful with trusting your company. I’m definitely not the only one who have experienced this. I’m probably the first one who noticed it by now.
I don’t know what you want to collaborate about. You can send me a email.
