subscription cancellation almost impossible

i read a review by a reporter on a newspaper and found a daily digital copy of the USA in mymailbox. I never subscribed nor did I read the copy in my inbox. I went through the whole "talk to a Philipino salesman routine" he agreed tht they had no record of my having acccessed the site and tried to get a password from me. if you want to spend a half hour in trying to get out of something you never asked for , avoid USA Today

Don't do any discounted trial

I was offered $1/month trial. The website was not easy to navigate so I decided to cancel. I tried to cancel a day before it was expired to prevent from being charged, but the cancel button was not active.
I tried a couple of times but couldn't do so. I was charged full amount and they refused refund. It was a scam. So be aware. It was a local newspaper but the USA TODAY is the parent company.

Trashiest piece of paper on the streets. The articles in USA Today tell nothing…

The articles in USA Today tell nothing about the truth. Everything is slanted toward their narrative. And their narrative is incorrect. They do not print news. They print nothing more than their trashy opinions. The National Enquirer is a higher level publication than USA Today. The only rating selection offered here is a scale of 1-5 stars. In this particular case there needs to be a -10 stars selection available.

Refused refund 2 days after they charged renewal

A year ago, USA Today offered a subscription for $1 because I subscribed to our horrible local digital paper, The Tennessean. (Of course, I didn't realize that the fine print probably said they'd charge me $39.99 annually thereafter. ) I cancelled The Tennessean before the renewal date. BUT USA Today (Gannett) put through a charge for $39.99 annual renewal. I called less than 48 hours AFTER THE CHARGE POSTED, and "Allison" gave me the runaround and said they don't refund and I could enjoy the subscription. I stated and restated to be sure I understood -- and I did. No prorate for 363 days, no partial or full refund, nothing. I couldn't believe they have such bad will! Soooo, I went to the credit card website & disputed the charge, and they gave me an immediate credit for 39.99. At least credit card companies, good ones, recognize this scam!

I had a USA print subscription

I had a USA print subscription for my son. He never received one newspaper. I made numerous calls to customer service, trying to cancel the subscription but was convinced that they would take care of the problem...and that someone from another department would call me in a few days. After over six months and a very long phone call consistently telling the rep that I wanted to cancel he finally agreed to do so. I asked for a refund and after a lot of runaround it was agreed up on that I would receive a full refund. When I received said refund, it was a small portion of what was promised.

Who designed your website???

Subscribe? Why would I do that when I can't even read the articles because the video overlay that cannot be closed and I'm not intersted in either, COVERS 60% OF THE ARTICLE TEXT! 100% OF WHICH LAYS RIGHT OVER THE ENTIRE RIGHT HALF OF EVERY LINE! COMPLETELY UNUSABLE!
I dont need or want a video that rehashes the article, being overlaid on top of the article, making it impossible to read. You think that's going to get me to love your service and use it enough to pay you??? Since I can't even see if the articles are decent, that's not happening. Since the articles are unreadable, I wont even be back as a freeloader! Thats saying something, when even at the price of FREE, you manage to chase someone off. Laughable.
"Here, lol, try reading these articles that we're going to cover up with a video player, tee hee hee, lol, oh! And dont forget to subscribe to a membership if you enjoyed the article!". And as far as that idiotic video player that's covering half the article text goes, yall even bury the closed captioning/subtitle text directly behind the player controls and progress bar (what sort of ridiculously idiotic player controls dont hide themselves? Not manually, not automatically.) making that unreadable as well!! 😅 Just a couple specks of whatever unknown letters sticking out from behind the progress bar. Its almost like yall tried to go out of your ways to intentionally obscure as much text as possible, except for on the overly large top menu that takes up nearly the entire top half of the screen. So... menu taking the top half, video overlaid on the right side of the bottom half, leaving only the article text thats in the lower left quadrant of the screen to be visible, which, as I stated earlier, leaves only the left half of each line visible... Who thought that was the way to go? Dumb! Literally akin to chopping a book in half, handing one half to someone, and telling them to read it.

Fake News

USA Today is completely fake news along with CNN and ABC News. Not worth my reading time.

Failure, at best

When you have a job to do but always fail at actually telling a story. When you lack intellect, common sense, and facts; you must work at USA Today. Great job on never being honest and faithful, but always grasping at straws to try to start some kind of division with the public. Fail in every aspect, that's the USA Today motto.

Misleading and Falsification to gain a sale

On October 11, 2024 I was approached by Ms. Smith congratulating me on "Sweeping the Pet Category" of The Best of Rochester Community Choice award in two categories. When she came into the office and made the statement there were two employees that witnessed the conversation and was excited about the honor. She said "since it was a clean sweep I have an offer for you to promote and advertise the Cutest Pet Contest." She continued to say how awesome it would be to sweep the pet award and then sponsor the Cutest Pet. Along with she sold me on the advertising in the award program as it would bring more attention to the business in the publication. The award night came and I did not receive the award in either category. This is not about receiving the award it is about the misrepresentation, falsification and promoting and selling a product for her personal gain. After the ceremony I sent her several messages on how disappointed I was and never hear a response. I am sure that this is all due to her admitting guilt that she falsified to make a sale. I congratulated the winners and I am very happy for them. I am not happy with the Democrat and Chronicle, USA Today and will not advertise or support this program in the future.

0 stars if possible! Stupid. You post something as a joke about coca cola on Facebook and they report you for "missing context" no wonder we as Canadians call Americans stupid! Get a grip!

THE most convoluted…

THE most convoluted snake-eating-its-own-tail billing I have ever seen. The rube golberg of billing - took 25 minutes to wade through that stuff. All to save a piece of paper and them a couple bucks. Why can't I get an email with a pdf? The Ames Tribune is three day old Des Moines Register news and that site is poorly maintained - the editor did a pro sprawl piece so I cancelled that subscription - how incredibly irresponsible. They are afraid (too lazy/underfunded?) of doing real journalism - so much fluff. It's like a conspiracy to undermine independent journalism and then they wonder why their business is dying - similar to why people are leaving religion - it no longer serves its purpose. And they are arrogant. Dunning Kruger syndrome.
