Vinci Autoroute shows why monopolies are a bad idea
I used the Vinci Autoroute system in France a number of times without a problem. On one occasion however, the ticket didn't work in the machine and I couldn't proceed. I pressed the button for assistance. An operator came on and asked where I had come from. They didn't understand my reply and so they charged me the maximum amount of 28 Euros when my trip should have cost between 4.80 -7.80. I contacted them on June 2 2025 and after several emails, I sent them everything that they asked for. It is now June 24 and I still have not received a refund. These people do not care about their customers. They realise that you don't have much choice but to use them as they are a monopoly.
Dire experience
What you need to know is that the customer service provision and communication will be non existent and totally hopeless. Don't bother
AVOID!!! They keep taking money even when you haven't used it.
Bought a tag in 2022, ended up not using it. In October 2023 I was charged 10 euro even though I've not left the UK. Tried to navigate my way round the website to cancel the subscription and thought I'd sorted it. April 2024 I get an invoice for 30 euro. I don't have the tag and haven't left the UK. At point of purchase there is the option for the website to be in English. Once you've paid you can only access it in French. I now have no idea how to stop the payment and prevent any further payments from coming out of my account.
Same as everyone else - awful
Same as everyone else. Signed up , did the bacs payment that failed due to brexit( first direct). They already sent the tag and now I’m being hounded to return tag. Asked questions of support , nothing. They marketed to me in English and now only communicate in French. Avoid x100.
Same poor experience as many
Avoid - signing up is easy, getting what you pay for is impossible. Same experience as many. Got ask to pay a €40 security deposit which i did, kept getting my account suspended. My tag never worked at the barrier and had to pay with credit card anyway. Now need to try to recover my money visa customer services.
Frustrating experience
I have been trying to purchase a tag to cover an upcoming trip to France, Spain and Portugal. All goes well on the site until getting to the payment page. They won't accept a UK bank account even though my profile is UK. Seems I will have to purchase a tag from one of the other many providers. Shame.
DON'T USE VINCI - €40.00 EURO SCAM
DON'T USE VINCI. It is an automated process to scam UK motorists for €40 Euros. They never submit the SEPA Direct Debit Mandate to your UK bank. Your badge will arrive, costing €9.95. Several emails will follow stating you haven't paid for the badge, bank declined payment - UNTRUE, no DDM ever sent! They request bank transfer deposit of €40.00 Euro, payment receipt never acknowledged. More non-payment emails follow then a litigation email, and finally an email stating the badge is deactivated and you owe them €30.00 Euro per contract. €39.95 and not a single reply and the helpline phone is never answered. UK only bank account = avoid VINCI
Vinci, agissez!
Vinci, agissez! mettez votre site web à jour.
They accept an application for the tag with an IBAN number starting with GB. They must know that UK banks cannot deal with international DD any longer: Hence the €9.90 delivery charge for the tag stays unpaid.
You, the unsuspecting customer end up in the hands of a litigation firm.
Best thing to do is ignore their threatening letters, until Ulys gets the message.
Do not get a Ulys tag.
EFFORTLESS
I've used a badge for 8 years. Just approach the dedicated toll lanes and drive through at under 30kph .....barrier opens automatically.
You'll need a French bank account or an international account (like Wise) for charges to be automatically taken. No more long queues while drivers fiddle with credit/bank cards. A godsend when driving solo in a RHD car.
Not worth the risk/gamble! Avoid...
Firstly, I am French and I have been in the UK for nearly 20 years. So speaking French is not an issue (if you do not speak French do not worry, this makes no difference here!)
I personally would not recommend anyone taking the risk to take a toll badge with Vinci. the time and effort required to deal with their inability to set up the badge properly outweigh the effort to get out of the car to pay a toll/get your passenger to stretch through the window to pay or get a ticket.
Like many I fell fool of the SEPA Brexit benefit. Not a problem, I ended up using my French account. Sadly Ulys/Vinci never managed to withdraw a Euro, yet they had no issue whatsoever to withdraw to 9.90 euro postage fee. Go figure...
Many emails (unanswered)/call (no results) later they simply canceled my contract and tried to charge me 30 euros for the badge. Thankfully I can cancel the direct debit and get a refund from my bank in France.
All in all I probably ended up spending £20 to get a badge from France and send it back to France!
DO NOT BUY IT IF YOU ARE IN UK
DO NOT BUY IT IF YOU ARE IN UK
They charged £9.99 for courier and supposed to be delivered by 7th August. Have sent an email on 10th August to check the tracking number. They have posted it after my email which will be completely useless for my journey.Tried ringing if they can help unfortunately i do not speak French. On top of it,if you don't use it with in 12 months or so there will be a fine. Do not buy it if you are in UK at any cost.
DO NOT BUY A ULYS TAG IF YOU ARE UK…
DO NOT BUY A ULYS TAG IF YOU ARE UK BASED.
They offer everything in English on the sign up, forms, info etc etc then it all reverts to French and is impossible to find anything in English.
The direct debit to pay your tolls and will not work as UK banks can no longer process international direct debits, another Brexit problem. Then Ulys start sending emails telling me that because I’ve not paid, I’m not sure what I’m paying them for? They have referred me to a litigation firm to ‘recover costs’.
I have returned the tag, which was never used and yet I am still being threatened with legal action to recover costs for a service I never used. A quick online check and read a few reviews and I realise I am not alone and this is a regular thing. Ulys do not respond to emails to try and resolve it and overall the services is absolutely hopeless and they seemingly just allow people to sign up so they can then threaten money out of them. It’s a disgraceful company.
Good value
Good value, tag arrived quickly before holiday and worked perfectly. Not ulys fault that iban direct debits don't work with uk banks, I googled and ended up opening an account with Wise (all online and easy) and used that for the direct debit
An upsetting experience
I informed Vinci that my husband had died and I wished to change the name and email address on the account we had had for over 10 years. They told me they had cancelled the account and asked me to return the badge and open a new account in my sole name. I made it clear that bank details are unchanged and attached a RIB. All I request is a name and e mail change. Nothing else. I DID NOT ask to, or wish to, cancel the account. Worst of all they send messages addressed to Michael although I sent his death certificate in French. Upsetting. So I now have a badge that does not work. Reading other reviews I dare not open a new account online. All the communication has been in French so surely they understand? I
So now have to get out of my car to pay tolls on French motorways. I don't want to use my age (75), gender or disability as an excuse. Even if I were young, male and fit the service I have received so far is appalling.
AVOID! It's awful.
AVOID!! I recently decided to purchase an Ulys toll tag. In theory it costs around £10 to get the tag send to you but after completing all the informationbrquired and providing Ulys with my IBAN I still have not received any notification that my tag has been sent. Checked my bank and the £10 fee has not been charged so I assume it hasn't. The app is utterly useless, it's in English but when you request support it sends you to a french only website. Its impossible to send a message to customer service. In summary, avoid like the plague. I'll be joining emovis instead, it's more expensive but Eurotunnel has teamed with them so it should work.
Stay away from this company
Stay away from this company. They claimed that the one euro charge didn’t work and then insisted on a 40 euro deposit. I paid this and they still went ahead and cancelled the contract. Awful. Kept emailing in. French during the entire process but they couldn’t care less
Vinci/Ulys Customer Service
I have used a Vinci telebadge for a few years now and never had any problems. In fact I always used to recommend them to anyone using French autoroutes.
However, having closed my French bank account and informed Vinci many, many months ago of my British bank details when I returned here, they ignored ALL (scores of) contact from me (in French, so that is no excuse!) and consistently sent out emails stating that I owe money (€10) - an amount which is fine by me because I have not used the badge for 12 months.
They have now terminated my account and appear to be threatening court/bailiff action, requesting more money - all through no fault of my own.
I couldn’t have been more transparent with them.
What an unprofessional company.
Highway between Narbonne and Toulouse…
Highway between Narbonne and Toulouse A61 is terrible many speed limits due to endless roadwork, toilets so dirty, pavement often of poor quality, speed and road work signs very improper....just the price is always increasing!!!
Awful, Abysmal, shocking customer services
This is truly awful company and service, I requested a toll badge which arrived 10 days late so unable to use on my holidays.
My bank thought teh one euro payment was a phishing exercise so didn't allow payment and that's when the fun started.
Returned from holiday to a flurry of mails sating fines will be levied, my account was to be passed to a litigation firm for recovery.
Entered into discussions over what to do and told to return badge and that would be the end of it, took a while but they eventually tod me where to return it too, but now there was a 9.90 euro charge assume for teh initial postage I agreed to pay and asked how. No response at all, then told to contact a land line that is always engaged no matter what time of day you call, after 5 days of trying have given up, have written to them on social media, via email and by letter asking how to pay, send me teh bank details for payment etc but they say ring the number or email to sort again no response.
Eventually told to pay via the app which is impossible as they have terminated my account, I can see the charge but cannot pay as access is denied.
Now it has again been sent to a litigation company for recovery of the debt.
So I have done all they have asked, requested how I pay and had no clarification or genuine response as to how to make the payment.
You cannot speak to any one to resolve and they are now ignoring my mails, social media (chat talk) etc. avoid this company like the plague Awful service
I can see a huge bill landing due to Vinci/Uyls failure to forward me any details on how to pay something I agree I need to pay and have tried since first asked to pay now over 6 weeks.
