Horrendous company: do not pay staff industry rates, do not pay contractors, cannot stick to a timeline and are entirely incompetent. Avoid at all costs
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS CUSTOMER!
They owe use over £9000 in Material and labour after bending over backwards for them to ensure they had everything ontime schedule, we have been chasing for two months, and have now passed this onto debtors, which he laughed and said" Take me to Court"
AVOID AT ALL COST
Remember you can only ever get 2 out of 3 - Cheap, Quick, High Quality. We didn’t get any of those!
3m extension, fitting of kitchen, internal reconfiguration and fitting of ensuite. I chose Vision because they offered design and build and would sort the plans, building regs and all the trades. The fee was acceptable for the scope of work and a promise of 14 weeks. Started well with comprehensive quote and contract and good comments from a reference they provided. The structural designer was different company and whilst the plans were fine there was a disconnect with what was then actually built as they clearly didn’t communicate or look at the plans. Alarm bells rang when they were In a rush to start with foundations before planning/building regs approved and pushed for milestone payments or upfront payments to buy materials ahead of completing tasks. Materials never arrived and full of lies to find out never been ordered. Multiple different contractors used so no consistency in brickwork or plastering, and then progress slowed. Discovered contractors were not being paid and the MD who runs the business alone had no credit to buy materials. He tried charging for changes required due to his mistakes but I refused. I had to negotiate a plan to finish by buying materials myself, paid some contractors direct to get them to turn up and getting credits owed on the final payment. 14 week plan took 10 months. We were too far in and had paid more than the work remaining so needed to get them to finish as would cost more to get a new builder to finish. I turned into the project manager and took control-chased and quality checked every single day, managed the budget with a detailed master spreadsheet. Got leverage by refusing to pay any invoices until certain tasks were complete and held back decent sum until the end. He still pushed for part payments before everything was finished but I held fast as I did not trust him an inch. Rather than paying skilled trades for general building and joinery he uses lower paid teams, but a lot of things had to be redone and I am still not happy with some of the quality. I incurred more cost to change kitchen parts as they didn’t measure before fitting, they lost or badly fitted parts incurring more cost to get replacements. No communication from one day to the next never mind the week as to who was doing what.No communication between multiple different teams. I had to argue on the sequence of tasks to maintain quality and check every day they knew what they had to do. The Electrician and his team were the only ones who were reliable but they had to redo work as it just wasn’t planned well. Meanwhile the MD moved into a bigger house, and has a very bad reputation with so many contractors they won’t work for vision- wish I knew this before. Clearly treats his staff, contractors and customers the same- full of lies and only looks out for himself. It’s been the most stressful 10 months ever whilst trying to work full time working from home, and having a temporary kitchen with water only accessed via the building site for months over the winter rather than the promised 3 weeks. We now need to try hard to enjoy the lovely space we created rather than think about the misery of the last 10 months and shoddy workmanship.
PLEASE AVOID!
A job that they said would take them 6 months to complete, took them 19 months to complete after chasing them constantly to finish the work. I subsequently provided them with a 12 month snagging listed (outlined in the contract) back in the summer 2023, and they still haven’t been round to put these right. Having building work done is stressful, you don’t need to be constantly chasing them to try and get it finished, very keen to invoice when all the works hadn’t been completed. Please avoid them and find someone professional.
I could not agree more with all the negative reviews here, seems like the same issues happen to everyone including myself.
One thing to add, is that after my horrible experience with this company, I did a little digging (should have done this before hiring them) and notice that many of the positive reviews they had on Google business were fake and written from someone inside the company or friends of the owner as I checked some on social media and they were just to increase the reviews rating since more than half were negative like here. The owner removed the Google business profile since the bad reviews were piling up.
Funny enough that the only positive review here seems a copy paste from one on Google
As I embarked on a significant home extension and loft conversion project with Vision an unexpected twist came into play. It wasn't until after the construction had kicked off that I stumbled upon some less-than-favorable online reviews. Naturally, this revelation triggered a wave of apprehension, casting a shadow over what should have been an exciting endeavor.
However, it's with great pleasure that I share my experience, which turned out to be a positive surprise amidst the initial concerns. Despite the ominous online reviews, Vision managed to exceed my expectations, showcasing remarkable craftsmanship in both the extension and loft conversion.
One key factor that significantly contributed to turning the tide of my apprehension was the project manager's exceptional communication skills. Timely updates, addressing concerns promptly, and ensuring a transparent flow of information created a sense of trust and reassurance throughout the project. It became evident that Vision was committed to providing not only quality work but also a positive overall experience for their clients.
Reflecting on the journey, I can confidently say that my initial anxiety, fueled by the online reviews, was unfounded. Vision not only delivered on their promises but went above and beyond to create a seamless and satisfying experience. This positive outcome stands as a testament to their dedication, skill, and commitment to client satisfaction.
In hindsight, I now recommend Vision without reservation, recognizing that online reviews may not always capture the full picture. My home transformation, despite the initial concerns, is a testament to the professionalism and excellence that Vision brings to their projects.
I had a troubling experience with
this unprofessional Vision company. Don't fall for the trap of a low-cost quote or followed by an early visit by the managing director of the company in a posh Mercedes car – they're all traps. If you sign a contract, you'll suffer. My one-year-old building is leaking in two places. I had to buy buckets to manage the leaks
Same story here. Discussion for arranging the quote for a renovation was fantastic and build was quoted for approximately 8 weeks. It took 9 month to move back in ! And it took thousands (!) of emails to nudge them along. Deposit was taking for long lead material (windows, doors, boiler, etc.) and after 4 month we found out that windows and doors have either not been ordered or only half paid with the supplier. Numerous invoices included double billing and many emails before they acknowledged that fact. I paid 6 month extra rent before moving back. The work is still not finished despite documenting unfished work for the last 3 month. Insurance certificates are still not provided. They don't respond to emails any longer. I do regret going with them. I'm on the verge of suing.
I highly agree with the reviews on 26th Oct 23 (Scarlet Wang) and 16th Oct 22 (Duarte) - they have described in detail what was exactly our experience - it was horrendous. We felt constantly coerced to pay far more than we needed to for work undertaken, concerned by the terrible quality (one wall had to be built 5 times, and was still awful!), and frustrated that they had 30 building projects on the go at any one time and only 2 supervisors! Strongly avoid at all costs, don't get sucked in to their low quotes and 'we can start in a couple of weeks, once you pay a 20% deposit' business! We ended up losing money as a result and employing another builder to rectify all their mistakes!
AVOID THIS COMPANEY! UNFAIR CONTRACT, DEMANDING UPFRONT PAYMENTS, DELAYED AND SUBSTANDARD WORK, DECEITFUL MD
Please AVOID this company! I fell into their “trap” unfortunately. It all started well with the Managing Director of Vision group Cambridge promises quality of work, good communication, and excellent customer service etc. after tender for the job. On the same day, the Managing Director kept following up with possible dates to start the works if we would pay the deposit and sign the contract. I paid the deposit of 15% (fifteen time above the standard construction contract deposit) and signed the contract of 6 months to secure a specific date. The week before the works were supposed to start, the Managing Director and his team came onsite for a pre-project meeting, promised to produce a program of works to be available online via BuiderTrend and followed by photos and videos of any works been done, I was impressed. On the day of starting, there is no phone call, no email, no workers, no program of works, no access to the website, nothing had happened, same for the second day, the third… the whole week. I called and emailed, I was told that due to unavailable skips, the staring date had to be changed and delayed … great start!
It all went downhill from there. There was a complete lack of progress and commitment in works, no planning, no communication, ignored all concerns raised by myself, the architect and the building inspector, but aggressively demanding payments by intimidation and harassment. The project manager rarely onsite and the workers are in experienced or only apprentice level, anything done either wrong or substandard. After 6 months at the end of contract, TPO trees are not protected, site without secure fencing, rubbish all piled up in the front garden, under grand drainage pipes are mobile, block and beams were without DPC, floor level is not the same to the existing house, existing fixture and fittings were disposed without agreement, material and design changed without agreement, extra payments were demanded while subcontractor had reduced price, subcontractors were unpaid…
Despite invest several hours each day of my own time, plus employ a project supervisor, after paying 50% the total project value, only the foundation has passed building inspection. When asked the company to rectify the work failed building inspection, they abandoned my project and disappeared.
This company does not have the ability, capacity and integrity to do any construction work, 3 of their customers in the neighbourhood are experiencing similar nightmares, and my surveyor already delt 4 similar cases with this company, the managing direct is a serial scammer and pathological liar.
I do not recommend this company at all and unfortunately, I fell into their “trap”. It all started well with the Managing Director of Vision coming to my house to be briefed on the work I was looking to do and get a quote for the job. On the same day, I got a quote and after that, the Managing Director kept following up with possible dates to start the works if we would pay the deposit and sign the contract. I paid the deposit and signed the contract to secure a specific date. The week before the works were supposed to start, I was told that the staring date had to be changed and delayed … great start! It all went downhill from there. There was a complete lack of planning and communication between them with workers appearing and having no ideia of what they were supposed to do or other times knowing but not having the necessary equipment available or delivered. I had the builders sitting in their cars outside the house for 4/5 hours waiting for materials or machines numerous days… It was always “the office” fault or the completely absent project manager. We raised concerns early on and were met with lies and unprofessionalism, with promises that things would be done by x day, etc. but nothing ever happened how or when they would say. There were extensive delays, unacceptable excuses and ordering of wrong materials multiple times. I ended up spending a lot of my personal/work time having to monitor what was going on and chasing a project manager that kept making mistakes. To top all this up they created extra unfounded charges for things that had already been agreed and well documented via email pre-contract, and kept invoicing us for works that had not been completed.
We escalated the issues and complained directly to the managing director throughout the works. He hid behind his staff and computer even when the emails were sent directly to him they were passed on to someone else or simply ignored. We called the office and left messages for him to call us back and said we wanted to set up a meeting, again ignored. They only replied when we refused to pay one of the invoices due to all the delays and their lack of professionalism in addressing their mistakes. They then assured us that everything would be corrected and finished by x date, which needless to say did not happen.
After an awful experience during the works and months of delays for what was supposed to be a simple 2-week job, our disappointment was further aggravated by significant faults and the poor quality of the final work.
