Ordered first box damaged and past best food

Ordered first box, so dissatisfied box arrived open, heavy veg packed into of soft fruit, ordered larger fruit and veg box to feed 4, what arrived is less than enough to feed one. Fruit squashed, tomatoes split, carrots and potatoes old and soft, sprouting and green inside. No reply to emails. I wanted to find a sustainable way and reducing food waste, this just added to the food waste bin, waste of money and valuable food! Food was bad and it turns out company is worse. Cancelled subscription waiting for refund no sure I'll get it. Avoid!

Poor quality and variety

[EDIT TO SAY: increase to 3* based on the business taking accountability for what happened, so perhaps an isolated experience]

Unfortunately the quality was a real let down, before even tasting anything. I received bruised apples, squashed bananas, plums so rotten that they had oozed onto their neighbours and kiwi fruit that were so soft, one was actually liquid within the skin. The potatoes were all soft (think month old forgotten at the bottom of the salad drawer) and a couple were rotten. More carrots than anything else, and quantities of anything outside of carrots and a middling amount of potatoes past their best and onions was very stingy.

In summary, veg box is poor value with poor quality potatoes. About 25% of the fruit bag was straight in the food waste, and a further 25-50% may join it.

Disappointing experience.

Disappointing experience.
We’d used this company in 2020 and 2021 and found them to be excellent, their large fruit boxes at the time included 6x fruits, usually 4 fairly standard ones of which you got at least 6 pieces, and then 2 others, normally a punnet of grapes and a melon or similar.
What has happened?!
We’ve recently rejoined, same box, that apparently still covers 4-6 people for the week, with 6 varieties of fruit. We are a family of 3 and without a doubt I’ll need to top up.
Last week 4x oranges, 4x pears, 4x bananas, 2x lemons, 1x grapes punnet, 1x pineapple. Just about rationalise this as ok value, although would have preferred a price increase to have the “old style” box qty, as this fell a bit too short for a week covering for us, and I definitely wouldn’t say great value.
This week though we got 4xapples, 4x bananas, 4x oranges, 4x pears, 1x melon, doesn’t hit the 6 fruit requirement, and several of the fruit are bruised and inedible. Adding it up at supermarket value, it doesn’t make sense to continue purchasing.
A real shame because a few years ago they were great, and their concept is fantastic. It’s worth noting their eggs and bread are fantastic still. If they delivered those without a box I’d absolutely purchase, and in fact will be contacting the egg farm directly to buy from them. But £9 for a poor amount of fruit that isn’t wholly edible isn’t acceptable, and therefore we’ve cancelled our subscription.

Not wonky fruit, just a wonky idea.

Saw this advertised on Facebook as being perfectly good fruit and veg that can't be sold in supermarkets due to the sizing/shapes. I thought "great! Definitely worth getting as we aren't bothered about thing like that".

First box was a "medium" fruit box. Made up a bunch of bruised bananas, punnet of perfectly shaped grapes, 4 perfectly shaped but soft apples and 3 perfectly shaped but soft pears. In Tesco, you can get all of that (plus 2 extra apples and 3 extra pears) for much less money, better quality fruit that isn't going off.

To be honest, I was quite shocked to open such a large box and seeing that is what they consider £10 worth.

Was signed up to receive fruit, veg, eggs and bread. Have immediately cancelled.

This isn't wonky food - it genuinely looks like someone works in a supermarket and takes some going off fruit that's about to be binned and just sells it online.

Poor quality

Poor quality 1 st box Sainsbury’s taste the difference open container would have had the tomato’s in, they were squashed all over the box under the muddy potato’s. 6 very large cooking apples so had to cook at the weekend to use up, but they were tatesless. Emailed to cancel and got no response.
They don’t communicate if you’re happy etc it’s just a subscription order.
2 nd box as email didn’t get responded to is squashed muddy tomatoes again!
6 potato’s (1was rotten and very visible)1 bunch spring onions, 1 small cauliflower 3 onions, 6 carrots one moldy
The bananas need to be used as they are battered and bruised already after the journey in the box. If your not in its left in the front door step. Cancelled live the idea but it’s not practical I’ll buy the wonky veg at the supermarket instead

Very happy with my veg box

Very happy with my veg box. I needed to eat more veg and having it around has meant I am finally cooking enough. I was grateful to have something new - Brussels sprouts leaves, never tried them before. Due to packaging things may get a bit squished, but I don't care it all gets chopped up anyway. I also want to support a small business. Haven't found any of my fruit or veg to be rotten or old. Happy with the service. Thank you

Not really impressed

Not really impressed. Large box is tiny, hardly any veg in it. Some of it rotten already so can’t even eat it. I can get triple the amount down our local veg shop for the same amount. Cancelled it.

Underwhelming.

I ordered my first box and was completely underwhelmed. They even took payment for the next box before I had even gotten the first. I ordered a large fruit box. Website states 6 varieties enough to feed 4-6 people for the week. I received 5 varieties: 4 bananas, 1 punnet of green grapes, 6 Clementines (1 mouldy), 6 small pears and 4 apples for £8. Same at Aldi for £4 if not less. Yes I understand it's a small business and they deliver, but why would I stay with them when I can get more and better quality for the same price elsewhere. They are not going to retain customers if this is how they operate. Such a shame.

Poor

I'm afraid we didn't much enjoy this service and cancelled after the first box. The fruit wasn't wonky, it was old. The bananas and tangerines weren't fit for consumption. It was also poorly packed so all the kiwis were battered. The veg hasn't been bad, but I can't say it's good value for money.

Disappointing

I wanted to support local farms and wasteful throwing away but I was really disappointed in the first delivery.

For how much I paid £7.39 for 5 satsumas (one was damaged) , a bunch of bananas and 4 pears. I could have gotten fruit at the store for a lot more for less of a price.

It’s not really worth it u less if you do really big bulk buys.

The fruit was great but unfortunately I would really order from them again.

I don’t know what the process is of cancelling my future orders but il let you know I do hope it’s easy.

I really wanted to support this…

I really wanted to support this initiative but had my first box delivered and was really disappointed. Disappointing range of vegetables, carrots were soft and inedible and lettuce already on the turn. I love the concept but it's just not good value for veg that's past it's best. I don't mind wonky just not past its best sorry.

Don’t use this box scheme…

My first and last delivery delivery consisted of 3 edible items, I also received 5 black rotting carrots, several soft potatoes, 4 soft splitting tomatoes and a few crushed black mushrooms which all had to go in the bin. I can’t believe they get away with it.
