Huge bills for "thoughts and prayers".
I spent a total of 9 days in two trips to an AdventHealth ICU, half of which was the result of what they had done the first time. Their "star rating" goes down every time I think back to my experiences in their care.
Let's start first with billing. It's not something uppermost in one's mind when going to the ER and ending up in an ICU. But afterwards, when presented with truly outrageous bills, they just seem abusive. My itemized bills included a ~$1000 charge for me repeatedly telling them I didn't want their "home health care". Their observation of my ability to stand up and walk cost another ~$1000. $5 pills were billed at $50. But the worst part are the billing errors. At least $48,000 in errors was added to my bill. I have learned not to pay until they sort things out, but that can take forever. Meanwhile they keep saying your payment is overdue. Months later, you might get a refund - *IF* you made them correct the errors.
Next, the food. Horrible. I suppose this might vary by hospital, but the chef at this hospital should be fired. One of the doctors pointed out that AdventHealth enforced their religious dietary laws. It is made worse by the fact that they invent more dietary restrictions for you. They put me on a low salt diet for no reason - then had to give me an intravenous sodium drip for low sodium. They did a blood glucose test right after feeding me pancakes and syrup for breakfast, then declared I was diabetic and needed a sugar-free diet.
On to the actual medical care. AdventHealth is a "training hospital", and even in the ICU, trainees were sometimes left in charge. I was tolerant, but getting poked half a dozen times by an incompetent trainee trying to extract blood is not very pleasant. On one occasion, my supplemental oxygen was removed so the technician could demonstrate a forced breathing apparatus to the trainee - never mind my gasping for air. I will also include that fact that after leaving the hospital, no one ever returned several calls when I had problems caused by the surgery performed. That lead to the second trip to the ER and another stay in their ICU.
What about the staff above "trainee" level? It's hard to say, because I rarely saw the same doctor a second time. The AdventHealth cardiologist I was seeing prior to hospitalization for a heart block, pacemaker implant, and pulmonary embolectomy never showed up in the hospital. In fact, he said the reported results of tests indicating my exact medical problem were test errors, and dismissed them. The prescriptions he wrote afterwards might very well have caused the problems leading to my arrival in the ER. I would say the majority of the staff are pleasant and try to be helpful. But the administration of the hospital makes their job very difficult. Whatever systems they depend on are VERY slow and lead to a lot of errors. Billing is just the tip of the iceberg. You need to monitor everything they do for/to you, because it *might* be the result of another administrative error, or presumed error.
Finally, there is fairly constant religious proselytizing. Pretty low-key, but always, everywhere, there is a message pushing their religion. I found it a bit irritating, especially when it came at the end of an errant bill for $48,000. I definitely would have preferred a useful answer to my call for medical assistance instead of "Have a blessed day." If I go to a hospital, I hope to get more than "thoughts and prayers"
.

The miscommunication and general lack of care for patients will keep me from going to the Advent hospital in Altamonte springs.
Not good for me
I feel failed once again by the CREATION Life philosophy. I was taken by the police to Advent Health ER in Merriam two weeks ago. I have CPTSD that gets severe, and I was losing sleep and having nightmares that were trauma based. I have a serious case of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder that has a scientific reason and early menopause. All that happened was I was misdiagnosed and put on too much antipsychotic. PRN benzo too. CREATION life and Advent Health are bad for my CPTSD and PMDD.
Calling into the Mansfield
Calling into the Mansfield, TX location for a simple rx that needed pre authorization and treated as if I was asking for some controlled substance. The Rx was denied because it needed some specific information. They just could not get around their processes to help me. I was transferred to a supervisor who believed being aggressive and argumentative would get me to relent. I did not a gave back what she gave me. The person didn’t even know what the word filibuster was. Good doctors but the staff is insufferable.
I want to recognize Grace
I want to recognize Grace, the ultrasound technician at Dr. Esquivel's office, for the exceptional care she provides. She is always kind, professional, and reassuring during every visit. She has a wonderful way of helping patients feel comfortable while remaining completely professional and never giving away information that the doctor needs to discuss.
Grace's compassion and positive attitude make a difficult experience much easier. She consistently treats patients with respect and genuine care, and it truly makes a difference. In fact, Grace is the main reason I continue seeing Dr. Esquivel. She is an incredible asset to the practice, and I hope she receives the recognition she deserves.

I had breast cancer surgery and the pain is very bad. I received no pain meds and have not slept in two weeks. I just talked to the doctor and he said to take some Tylenol. I can’t sleep. And have had pain for almost two weeks I feel like I made a very bad choice of doctors and I don’t know what to do. I should have gone to a different cancer group because I want someone who actually cares. I do not recommend this hospital. I knew surgery was supposed to be painful but I thought I would get a pain Med which would let me rest and alleviate the pain. It’s been a week and I am still in so much pain. I can’t sleep. I tried to relay this message but was told to take Tylenol. At this point. I just want a decrease in pain so I can sleep.
Awful experience
Awful experience. Gotten worse over time. They don't confirm or help. They put people at risk and waste time.
HMO in medicine is a fraud
HMO in medicine is a fraud. The exeucitves of these HOM related to Medicare are just frauds. CEO of Medicare HMO are getting rich and live on high hog at expense of seniors. We work 40 years plus, taxed on Medicare then literally
screwed when 65! We need seniors to step up and take stands. No one will just let us be screwed!
To list the most horrifying experience…
To list the most horrifying experience in detail would be too long and I want to protect my medical privacy. However, to be generic, I had a surgery scheduled which took 7 mths due to a waiting list. My primary care and insurance approved months ago. After I went to a pre op, they abruptly cancelled my procedure and told me I had to wait another 7 mths plus they are keeping 50% of the out of pocket funds I had to pre pay. They are unresponsive from both the surgeon's office and Advenhealth billing and I'm out over $2400 right now while I play a waiting game. They total lack of response in over a few days now is unbelievable. This is corporate medicine at it's worst claiming to be "religious" without actually practicing the principles of it.
Advent Health 24/7 Service?
On Thursday July 2nd 2026, my wife informed me she was having UTI symptoms. in accordance with Advent Health policy, I asked her to call her primary care physician in Leesburg. When she called, she was told that the doctor would call her back soon. As we were leaving on vacation in two days, when the doctor did not call back, We decided to go to the office and see if she could be seen. When we arrived at the office, to my surprise, there was not a single patient waiting. My wife was then told they would not be able to see her and she would have to go to urgent care. A huge sign by the receptionist's window said: "Not feeling well? Call us first, 24 hours, seven days a week". This is when I lost my cool. "What does that sign say?" I asked the receptionist as I took the sign and threw it through the window. At that point someone who I would say may have been the office manager and I got into a very heated discussion. We then left the office. A few minutes later, my wife received a call from the doctor's office asking her to come back. Now I ask, if they were able to see her then, why couldn't they have just done as the sign said and see her when we first came into the office. What kind of game are they playing with their patients? Why would they clearly advertise 24/7 patient care and then refuse to see a patient in pain?
The providers at our local office in…North Carolina
The providers at our local office in Polk county are so nice. They are who earned the two stars. The fact that advent refuses to refill a few mundane medications that I really need unless I pay for additional appointments is absolutely criminal...
My health is taking a toll as a result.
Patient Portal and Communication is Crap
Terrible communication if you're not there in person. The patient portal is ridiculous. Doesn't load, takes multiple clicks to access information. Staff non-responsive to messages on portal. Overall terrible experience for family. Care and nursing staff are great.
HORRIBLE!
If I could give a negative rating I would. Their customer support is horrible. The right hand can’t work with their left either. Oh and to top it off they over charge you drastically! The amount that my EOB from Florida Blue says I should pay is almost half of what they have been charging. The absolute worst!
Have in hospital 2 days and…
Have in hospital 2 days and historically always receive Toradol for severe headaches, including this trip. Then a PA or doctor named Divya Menon came on duty and even though I was in the midst of severe pain, utterly dismissed me and said is not giving me Toradol for "just a headache" even though everyone else here does. I just wanted to make sure this horrible humans name is out there, she sucks. This was Florida Hospital Advent on Rollins.
I came to the AdventHealth ER
I came to the AdventHealth ER located in Eustis, Fl. w/ a sliver of glass in my foot. This is after first seeing a dermatologist who was not able to remove it. Thinking that by visiting the ER that a heightened level of treatment could be given, but sadly I left their ER w/ the glass still in my foot. Subsequently, I endeavored to reach out to share my concerns about my problem not be resolved but there was absolutely no avenue to do so. One person I was able to get through to said she could only set up the copayment I would still be responsible for paying.

The portal a few years ago was really good then the IT people got hold of it to make "improvements"; it was been user-unfriendly ever since. I tried to send a message to my doctor but couldn't. I had done an online check-in for an upcoming appt. I still got a phone message 2 days later asking me to confirm the appt. When I called back on the number provided, I got a message that the number was not operational. I tried calling the main office number & got a message that I'd be helped in under 8 minutes; I hung up. The second time I got a message that it would now be 15 minutes. A frustrating waste of time. I love my doctor but dislike the organization. I'm also offended at the phony use of scripture: it's a money-making factory.

We have served the hospital for decades. They have chosen to not pay a bill of $5000. We are a small business. Shame on them. After years of loyal service, they have neglected their fiduciary responsibility. Do not donate to their foundation.
Outrageous charges for clinic visit with no satisfaction with office supervisor!
I called to get into a regular clinic in Florida for for an appointment for a bad cough. I was sent to an advent clinic near our location. Needless to say nobody told me it was at Walgreens until our third call . So the PA was plesant. She asked if I was an Advent customer which I was. She asked me a few questions and looked at my ears and throat. I was in and out in about 15 minutes. I received my Medicare explanation and Medicare was charged $533.00 . They told me bobs denied it which I have not seen anything from them yet. So in the end I was billed $151.00 for a 15 minute appointment. When I called I was told by the clinics supervisor that that was customary charge for an office appointment for a new customer which I was NOT. He really gave me know good explanation. I will never step in a Walgreens appointment again!
The cafeteria does not accept cash.
