Would not recommend
As pointed out by others in these reviews, there is no loyalty to customers, I have been with blacknight for close to 10 years, and honestly only recently I have been having issues, my website was taken down even though I was still paying, had numerous issues with their email service, I absolutely would not recommend, in the process of changing to another provider. The dashboard is unbelievably complicated, and as price goes its not even that cheap, brought this up with customer service and I was literally ignored.
Absolutely Disgraceful Treatment
Absolutely Disgraceful Treatment: Serious Security and Privacy Concerns
As a former web developer who used Blacknight to host websites for clients, I experienced what I can only describe as one of the most shocking and unacceptable examples of customer account management I have ever encountered.
Blacknight effectively locked me out of my own hosting account and handed control of it over to one of my clients, without my permission, authorisation or even consulting me.
This was MY account, which I had established and used to manage my web development business. Yet Blacknight saw fit to transfer control to another individual, leaving me without access.
What makes this situation even more outrageous is that my personal bank card details remained associated with the account and were still being used after someone else had been given control of it.
Think about that for a moment. A hosting company handed control of my account to a third party while my financial details remained attached to it.
The potential implications for my privacy, financial security and the confidentiality of other clients' information were enormous.
I was absolutely appalled by how this was handled. The lack of communication, authorisation and apparent regard for basic account security was staggering.
How can any business trust a hosting provider that is willing to remove the rightful account holder and hand their account to someone else?
In my opinion, this was scandalous behaviour and a complete betrayal of customer trust.
I would strongly caution web developers, agencies and businesses against placing their trust in Blacknight without carefully considering how their accounts and sensitive financial information are protected.
An utterly unacceptable experience. I would never trust this company with my business again.
Honestly
Honestly, their service is amazing. They’re so quick when I got issues with my internet/other service issue. No nonsense. Straight to the point.
Long-time Customer Leaving Due to Rising Costs and Declining Service Quality
I've been a Blacknight customer since 2006, running multiple websites and domains through them for many years as part of my own web company. However, over the past few years, I've systematically moved all my services away and here's why:
The Problem: Rising Costs, Fewer Benefits
My experience reflects a clear trend: costs keep increasing while the value of staying with Blacknight keeps decreasing. There is no recognition or loyalty for long-term customers like myself.
Key Issues:
Platform Changes (New Customer Console): When they migrated to their new account management console, several services were removed without compensation including free domain parking for multiple domains on a single website.
Hosting Shifts: Most Microsoft-based hosting was discontinued in favor of Linux-only solutions, eliminating choices that some clients needed.
Hosting Tier Elimination: Lower-cost hosting tiers were removed, causing prices to nearly double. For small businesses seeking basic web presence, this is no longer affordable.
.IE Domain Lapse Fees: This is my final straw. The Irish Domain Registry charges €45 for lapsed domains. Blacknight adds an additional €45 on top for €90 total. While larger companies have auto-renewal systems, small businesses without deep pockets do not. This penalty fee matches the registry's own charge and targets budget-conscious small business owners.
Why I'm Leaving:
Blacknight has progressively eliminated affordable services for small businesses, the exact segment I work with daily. Combined with the lack of acknowledgment for nearly two decades of loyalty, it's clear the company is pivoting toward larger corporate clients and pricing out SMEs.
After watching my former hosting provider remove accessibility for the small business community it once served, I've decided to move my remaining .IE domain registrations elsewhere. Other providers remain, but Blacknight has made its priorities clear.
Been a customer since 2008
Been a customer since 2008. Leaving as there is no customer loyalty. The longer you stay with them, the more insecure and out of date the system where your website is hosted becomes. As their server have old software that are several years out of date, they have no current plan to fix them. They are not offering existing customers a solution, but if you raise an issue, they will advise that you take up a new subscription and they will then move your hosting to a newer server. I am moving to a more secure hosting provider that has better customer loyalty.
I switched to Blacknight for webhosting and broadband
I recently changed provider and I now host my website with Blacknight. The SiteBuilder interface is superb, intuitive and easy to use. Blacknight pricing is very competitive and great value. I was so impressed that I then switched my broadband provider to Blacknight as well. Absoultely fantastic service. Blacknight customer service is excellent. I really cannot recommend Blacknight enough.
Unbelievable support

Website Migration. Superb service!
We migrated our website/hosting/email to Blacknight back in April. It was complicated due to previous web developers set up. I cannot express how great Blacknight were especially Neil Du Plessis who was so patient, he outlined any issue that arose and gave us clear timeliness for resolutions and he got the job done despite what felt like many hurdles. Being solely online means downtime is not not ideal, Neil understood this - his expertise and reassurance throughout the process was great, he was an absolute pleasure to deal with. We now have control of our website and everything is in one place with a phone number that you can actually speak to a human if need be. I would not hesitate to recommend Blacknight whether starting out or looking to transfer. Superb service!
Exceptional customer service
Exceptional customer service. For a non technical person like myself it's so reassuring to know I can always get help from someone (an actual human!) from Blacknight. I've been using them for years and will happily continue to do so.
Delighted with this service
Great to be able to make a phone call on a Friday afternoon, speak to *an actual person*, and have fibre broadband installed and working perfectly within 10 days. I'm very pleased with the Blacknight experience. Thank you, Helen

Take your money and give no service
I paid for a SSL cert a week ago and keep getting automated messages that my invoice is not paid nor am I getting the service I paid for. All attempts to try and talk to someone in this company failed. I have evidence that the payment left my account over a week ago, it has been deducted from my BOI account the same day I made the payment. This company is a joke! No customer service whatsoever.

Gen X/ Gen Jones/ Boomers may struggle with webpage design and domain purchasing for business purposes in the modern world. Choosing Blacknight for their expertise makes everything so easy.. Conor and Leon have been so helpful and it seems like they can do their work with their eyes closed.. The team are very helpful and a pleasure to work with.. I highly recommend them..
Brilliant service as always from…
Brilliant service as always from Blacknight when purchasing .ie domain names. Conor was super help and great advice following the case through to the end to make sure it was sorted fully for me. Highly recommend Blacknight and have dealt with them for over 10 years now.
Excellent customer support from Blacknight
Blacknight staff have provided me with great customer support for a number of queries I've had over the years, whether restoring domains that I had inadvertently let slip or answering technical questions. My latest was today, and the response times, professionalism, and assistance couldn't have been better - I'm hugely grateful!
Excellent service as I have learned…
Excellent service as I have learned over the years is the norm at Blacknight. Irish web builders are so lucky to have you. When everything on the Internet is getting more and more impersonal, Blacknight maintain a really good commitment to one to one, considerate, effective service. Bravo guys, ye are always there when needed.
worst service ever
worst service ever, requested support the staff is rude and condescending
Changed conditions during the paid upfront term
Purchased the Fibre 2000 broadband, paid yearly upfront, which at the time of purchase, was clearly with no data limits at all: "Yes, all of our broadband plans include unlimited downloads." and no mention of Fair Usage in their policies. After a few months, received a phone call that I was using too much of their "unlimited" plan, being in the top 1% of their user base and this was causing issues with SIRO. Asked for cancellation, they said it would only be possible after the 6th month. So basically they changed the conditions during the term and kicked a customer. Now their FAQ and policies talk about the Fair Usage but in a very broad sense. The actual limit is 10TB/month in case anyone is wondering (or at least this is what I was said in the support ticket). Moved to another SIRO provider where this same usage level is not a concern - so probably a lie that the issue was on SIRO. At least got a partial refund, so giving 2 stars instead of the deserved 1.
