Worst app
Worst app, kept on charging my account, can’t even access the damm thing. Stay away from this app it’s a grift!
CALM APP – Promoted by Companies That Hack People and Wiretap Their Own Staff
All information in this review is publicly available or archived on the Wayback Machine. I am a protected whistleblower under PIDA 1998.
The Calm app is being sued under the US Wiretap Act for allegedly secretly collecting users' keystrokes, search terms, and mental health data without consent. The lawsuit alleges violations of the California Wiretap Act and California's Computer Data Access and Fraud Act.
Now here's the hypocrisy.
Liberty Global – the company that hacked me, filed a perjured defence, and lost $3.84 billion in tax court – promotes the Calm app to its employees. A Liberty Global job advert explicitly lists "Access to wellbeing and mental health benefits such as the Calm app". The evidence is saved on the Wayback Machine.
Liberty Blume – their unregulated legal arm that scrubbed a solicitor and conducted litigation without authorisation – offers the same benefit to apprentices.
Taylor Wessing – the law firm that acted for Google, Liberty Global, and Montu while I was in dispute with all three – offers the Calm app to its staff. Their German career profile explicitly lists "digitale Angebote (bspw. Calm-App)" as a benefit. This is also archived.
The same companies that hacked me for months were actively encouraging their own employees to use an app that was secretly collecting their keystrokes, search terms, and private thoughts without consent.
This is not a wellness benefit. This is a wiretap disguised as a meditation app.
The law firm handling the Calm app litigation is Edelson PC – they specialise in data breach and privacy class actions. They're already suing Twilio for wiretapping. They should know that Liberty Global, Liberty Blume, and Taylor Wessing all promoted this app to their staff while it was actively collecting user data without consent.
The evidence is archived on the Wayback Machine – including the Taylor Wessing German career profile, the Taylor Wessing UK wellbeing page, and the Liberty Global job advert listing the Calm app as a benefit.
The hypocrisy is astonishing.
They hacked a whistleblower for months. They filed perjured defences. They scrubbed solicitors from the register. They promoted a wiretapped app to their own staff.
You couldn't make this up.
Do not trust Liberty Global. Do not trust Taylor Wessing. Do not trust Liberty Blume. And do not trust the Calm app.
Be wary of signing up for Calm
I signed up for calm, and it auto renewed before I realized it- (my bad!). Kept it another year- was determined to cancel this year- had to search and search for a way to cancel- it’s easy peasy to sign up- extremely difficult to cancel. No customer service phone number- will def never use again- and would advise others not to.
Same as everyone else
Same as everyone else. They seem to be big ol fibbers. They lure you in with that super relaxing "You are safe.." video on Facebook but it doesn't exist on their app and neither does anything like it. Also, no matter how many times you block the ad, it pops back up. No idea why they don't just add stuff to their app. If they can do it for an ad, just make it longer and put it on the app. Too late now though. I think they're manipulative click baiters.
It's a scam
It's a scam. After I signed up, I was never given access. So I asked to cancel my subscription and get a refund, confirmed through email. This was November last year. They have continued to charge me each month even though I have no access and cancelled. So far they have taken about $180.00 worth of unauthorised transactions. I need to cally babk to somehow have them blocked. Don't sign up - it's a scam.

I had the calm app for several years…
I had the calm app for several years some of the content was helpful . That said I renewed in January 26 and can not get access to the content . I emailed approximately four times no response untik three months later I received a response with instructions around changing password and re loading the app which I had already done . I did it again still no content . I emailed again explaining no response since . My sister has also paid for the app and does not have content and is in the same position . Basically we have paid for nothing . I think calm is a scam . They just make so much money from people paying and receiving no service .
Refund Issued, but the Overall Experience Was Disappointing
I initially discovered that Calm charged me for a one-year subscription without my clear consent or adequate notification regarding the renewal. When I contacted customer support to request a refund, the process appeared unnecessarily difficult and unclear.
As a UK consumer, I take consumer protection seriously. Where companies fail to provide transparent subscription terms or make cancellation and refund procedures overly complicated, consumers may consider escalating concerns to the relevant authorities, including Trading Standards.
After several weeks, I eventually received a full refund. However, the overall process lacked transparency and created unnecessary frustration. In particular, Calm’s website should explain the subscription renewal, cancellation, and refund process far more clearly to consumers.
For anyone experiencing a similar issue, I would recommend the following:
Go directly to your Apple account subscription settings.
Submit a refund request through Apple’s official process.
Be aware that responses may take anywhere from 24 hours to 5 working days.
I work in customer service myself, so I understand both sides. Normally, I allow companies reasonable time to resolve issues fairly. However, consumers should always read the terms and conditions carefully and monitor subscription renewals closely.
Would I recommend Calm to others? No.
Did Calm work for me personally? No.
Was it easy to obtain a refund? No.
Was I satisfied with the overall communication? No.
I had to repeatedly chase updates over several weeks, and the situation caused unnecessary emotional stress and anxiety about whether I would recover my money.
I hope this review helps other consumers avoid a similar experience.
Enquired about this app
Enquired about this app, got charged 17.99 then £75 few days later! I did get a refund from calm for the 17.99 but still waiting on the refund from apple for yearly subscription! So misleading so beware!
Lost a lot of money to Calm
I didn't get on with the app, tried to cancel a number of times, always getting frustrated and giving up. Then another years payment came out. Finally I got it sorted but I lost a lot of money to this company.
I receive my membership through Kaiser…
I receive my membership through Kaiser but before my membership was included with my insurance I was a paying customer. I love this app although I do feel it has become “too much.” The experience is now overwhelming with too much content from too many different artists. I love Tamara Levitt and I wish it was all back to her soothing voice. The only thing I image would make this app better would be to lower pricing and reduce content.
I think I subscribed to this company…
I think I subscribed to this company site at the end of last year and since January have been trying to cancel the monthly amount they are taking from my bank account!! They said first they were very buy then second wanted more info which I am loathe to provide. I dont see why they just cant stop it!
It’s a good product until you need help
I’ve had calm in the past and definitely thought it was worth it. However I purchased my annual subscription through a promotion but it’s not giving me the premium content (even though I paid for it) and I can’t get a response from calm to fix the issue. It’s just an AI chat that doesn’t actually respond to the conversation
Not worth it, no customized "plan" as promised
I was "sold" on Calm by a promise to create a "plan" for me based on my needs (as determined by my answers to multiple questions). But there was no "plan" or anything tailored/customized to me/my needs, just a ton of playlists and files. I did like the EMDR playlists. But I can get those on YouTube for free, so Calm is definitely not worth the money.
This is a company of expert…
This is a company of EXPERT SCAMMERS...!!
first year May 8th 2025, £19.99, load of rubbish arrived.
CANCELLED any more renewals afer first month.
Heard today that they will be increasing their charges to £49.99 and are taking it out of my bank on May 8th 2026
Tried to contact but they believe I am a ROBOT..!!!
HAVE HAD TO CANCEL THEM WITH MY BANK
Abusive Cancellation Policy/Possible Class Action Lawsuit?
Their cancellation policy is intentionally abusive. I cancelled my "free trial" within hours, which was confirmed via email. Days later CALM sent a text at 4 AM confirming my annual subscription: cancellation does not prevent payment. This is fodder for a class action lawsuit.
Trustworthy
Accidentally left my subscription on after a free trial. It was a good service but not for me personally. I got in touch about a refund and they did so immediately. Very rare in my experience with subscription based apps. Thank you calm!
Terrible experience
Terrible experience. Auto-renewed after I'd cancelled and there is no workable refund process on their website. I wish I had read the poor reviews before I started a 1 week trial. Content is not impressive. Frankly, you'd do better with free content available on YouTube. Avoid.
Stress producing experience
I subscribed to calm and the money left my account immediately. Whenever I opened the app it did not recognise my account and just offered more options for subscribing. I have made many attempts to contact them and have had two auto generated replies telling me how incredibly busy they are and they will get to my account soon. The 30 days is almost up and I can't even request a cancellation of my subscription because at no stage have I received any receipt of money paid. I have contacted my bank but I'm not having much luck there either. Do not trust this company who claim relief for anxiety... they just cause unnecessary stress.
