Broken email preferences and impossible to unsubscribe
The email preference center on Cars.com is highly inaccurate. I am only signed up for four very specific notifications: Inventory Price Drop Alerts, Inventory Search Alerts, Saved Cars Price Drop Alerts, and Saved Cars Sold Alerts.
Despite setting these strict preferences, I constantly receive unsolicited emails about cars they claim are a "match" for me, which I couldn't care less about. Even more frustrating, there is absolutely no setting or option to turn off the automated emails sent by "Charlie at Cars.com."
If a company is going to offer an email preference center, it actually needs to honor those choices instead of ignoring them to send unwanted spam.

Asked for an Instant Offer to sell my car that was stated as a "real cash offer" only to find that the 2 dealers listed had no interest in my car at all. This is obviously a "come on" so don't trust their cash offers at all.
Instant Offer Bait and Switch
I recently received an “Instant Offer” for my vehicle through Cars.com from a dealership roughly 90 minutes away. The offer was well below private party value but was better than some other instant offers I received from other websites so I contacted the dealer and was told the process was very simple and quick. I decided to make the trip against my better judgment and ultimately it was a complete bait and switch. The dealership lowered my offer nearly 45%. While they cited a few minor wear and tear items, the main reason was that the dealership contacted wholesalers to purchase the car and those wholesalers would not be willing to pay them the instant offer amount. So why waste people’s time with a fake instant offer if the process is based on what a wholesaler will pay? Please save yourself time and frustration and avoid Cars.com.
Instant cash offer is fraudulent advertising
Used instant cash offer. They claimed they would buy my car for $8900. Then post dealer inspection, they offered $6100.
$2300 of the $2800 they “knocked off” of their offer was for extremely minor cosmetic defects, ON A 2008 VEHICLE. Give me a break. Consequently id argue they employ false advertising: color is silver and not black? Deduct $150. Almost imperceptible scratch on hood? Deduct $500.
Furthermore, 0 room for negotiation. I told the dealership (Acura Irvine, also worth avoiding) that they wasted my time. They said they have no control over pricing. Right.
Amazed these guys haven’t been sued out of business yet

What a Joke!
I received an online quote and was told to take it to a local dealership. The offer was $2000 less than the quote. Plus they told us the Carfax said the vehicle had been in an accident. The Carfax says no such thing! My husband became upset and they threw us out. Very rude and unprofessional. Total waste of time!

Not Credible!
Cars dot com, is not credible. They sent me an offer for $3025, I go to the dealer and they offered $2000. Thanks for nothing. The guy hemmed and hawed and said they were searching for a buyer on their computers-I thought they were the buyer!
