Trying to sell car as a private party..bogus
Trying to sell car as a private party. Lots of inquiries but people are either not credible or total fakes. We actually arranged to meet to show the car but the person was a no show. Miserable experience.

Company on low budget
Company on low budget. Customer service is junk. They can not even clearly post the rules that they have for private sellers. They can ban you without any explanation and notifications that your are blocked. You just can not login anymore. Customer service is like left eye doesn't know what the right eye doing. GARBAGE

Instant Offer Bait and Switch
I recently received an “Instant Offer” for my vehicle through Cars.com from a dealership roughly 90 minutes away. The offer was well below private party value but was better than some other instant offers I received from other websites so I contacted the dealer and was told the process was very simple and quick. I decided to make the trip against my better judgment and ultimately it was a complete bait and switch. The dealership lowered my offer nearly 45%. While they cited a few minor wear and tear items, the main reason was that the dealership contacted wholesalers to purchase the car and those wholesalers would not be willing to pay them the instant offer amount. So why waste people’s time with a fake instant offer if the process is based on what a wholesaler will pay? Please save yourself time and frustration and avoid Cars.com.
Buyer and Seller, BEWARE!!
I place my car for sale. Within an hour or so, I get a message from person "A". I response to person "A". I forward my phone number to person "A" and we speak specifics about the car. Person "A" says he is interested and would like to make arrangements to pickup car on a certain day. Gives a story which I didn't believe, so I gave him a day. He was going to forward me his info. I responded how will payment be handled. All of a sudden, his account is inactive. Person "A" had a different name as we was texting and not the same name on the message on the website. I traced his number and it's in the state of Illinois which is where Cars.com is located. Person "A" used three (3) names. Be careful with this site!! The company itself is either checking up on you OR trying to scam you!!! Buyer and Seller, BEWARE!!
I do not recommend

Be very careful I’m trying to sell my car as a private owner and they’re asking for the copy of the title. Seems like the employees have a scam going on.
Awesome and super easy experience
I have had a very good experience buying a car in Hgreg Orlando, Fl. From the first moment I felt the good intention of helping me from the seller. He made a lot of effort to understand what I was looking for, and find the best car for me. The seller (Carlos J. Rodriguez) was very knowledgeable, very friendly and focused. Also the financier (Louis Whatts) was very to the point with the explanation, the details and all the paperwork was super easy.
Unfair competition and deceptive practices geared to promote dealers and demote private sellers
The prices in car sale posts made by private sellers o this platform are unfairly labeled as worse than identical cars with more mileage posted by dealers.
My car at $65.5K and 20,100 miles is labeled as only a "good deal $731 under", while $69K car with 29K miles and $65.5K car with 25K miles are labeled as "GREAT DEAL $$$KKK under". This is an unfair advertising policy targeted to promote dealers who pay fees for their membership and posts, vs private sellers who don't. #unfairpolicy #unfaircompetition #unfairdeceptivepractices
Do not pay to list your car on…
Do not pay to list your car on cars.com. Listed my truck for sale, private sale. spent the time inputing all the relevant information. listing was approved same day a few weeks ago. Went to log in today, account was disabled and my listing was closed. No communication from cars.com zero. Big ol waste of time. I am so glad I didn't pay for a listing because then that would have just added more incentive to leave more negative reviews.
Advertise on cars.com? A reason to just say "no"....
Sellers (esp. individual sellers) are charged a hefty fee for advertising on cars.com, but I wonder if they are aware that if prospective/interested buyers want to "Check availability" of their vehicle, or "Contact seller", a potential buyer must agree to cars.com terms which state, in part: "By clicking here, you authorize Cars.com and its sellers/partners to contact you by texts/calls which may include marketing and be by autodialer. Calls may be pre-recorded. You also agree to our Privacy Statement. Consent is not required to purchase goods/services."
So, although I am currently a legitimate, qualified, & interested buyer currently interested in a car I found on cars.com, I'm not willing to agree to those terms, and will not be contacting the seller (which requires agreement to those terms). Why should I? The seller has already paid the fee for the ad - why should he/she be denied a real, potential buyer because the company that owns cars.com insists on making additional revenue at buyers' expense by stripping away buyers' rights to privacy, with what one imagines is an open invitation to countless used car dealers & other businesses in that often less-than-reputable/ethical business arena to be provided with a buyer's information? Shockingly poor business practice - Just say no!
