CIBC suddenly reduced my credit limit…
CIBC suddenly reduced my credit limit by 50% despite no missed payments and no prior warning. I paid on time and maintained my account responsibly, so the decision felt unfair and damaging. The worst part was the lack of communication — I only found out when trying to use my card. Customer service was not helpful in explaining the reason or reviewing the decision. This experience seriously reduced my trust in the bank. Card was previously maxed but paid in full with no missed or late payments and no warning or reason given for this decision. It's ridiculous as I have credit cards with other banks with same situation and they never lowered my credit limit like CIBC did.
Worst bank I have EVER dealt with
Worst bank I have EVER dealt with. I'm a nobody. I'm not rich nor have I had a decent income in a while. I had fallen to a low point in my life with funerals and typical mid-age trauma. I had opened up an account with CIBC. I was in a relationship and I thought it was a great idea to allow my partner to use my card for a gift under a payment plan. However, after things ended, I realized the payment method had not been changed so I took full responsibility. I contacted CIBC after a 2nd NSF to put a STOP payment in all future charges and to inquire about possibly waving one fee while I pay the other.. (I know they don't have to) To my surprise, they claimed they could not put a stop payment so I wanted to just close the account at the branch. They said they can't until I clear those up. I was unemployed at the time and asked if I could pay one and as a good gesture they waved one. Big NO. So! I left the bank and went with another. CIBC allowed to rack up $400 in NSF fees despite my MULTIPLE requests to help me stop this.. Now, they turned those fees into a bank loan and is now sitting on my credit report as that.
I hope this bank goes under and goes bankrupt. NOBODY should bank here. I don't care what my situation is, I made every attempt I could make those years back and seeing this place still standing makes me want to vomit.
I contacted the regional manager and they disgustingly recited the policies that I must follow. Absolutely gross bank ethics.
My mistake? YES. But they REFUSED to help me get out of that shitty situation and figured NSF fees are worth losing a customer over when all it is "sorry hes broke and can't pay" then go after the customer for money just to say that. Lol
Gross!
NSF turns into a bank loan... I wish i could persue a law suit over this. I never signed no gawdamn loan nor have i requested one. Sick!
Unfortunately there's no option for…
Unfortunately there's no option for negative rating. When I opened my checking account I told the lady that I would be depositing about $1,000 in cash, my son's share of the bills, plus my pay and ow would be direct deposit. She said that would not be an issue so I went ahead and opened the account and changed my direct deposit info. Once my money was deposited and froze due to suspicious deposits, my ow and cash from my son. I called customer service and they said I could go in with certain documents and it would be good to close my account. I did that but no surprise, I couldn't get my money out and close my account. Naturally when they said I couldn't take my rent money out I got mad and threw my bank card behind the desk and not at anyone. Next thing I know I received 5 copies of a no trespassing orders saying I could be arrested if I step on any of their branches. They closed my account and took exactly 2 months worth of service charges. I had exactly $975.00 and my monthly plan was $16.99/month. My account wasn't even open for a month and they charged me 2 months service charges. I think they should make so all employees, in person and on phone should access to the same info. Stay away from this bank.
Chao's communications between its…
Chaos communications between its departments. The staff is totally unprofessional as scam. I asked them the service charge policy on my account, different staffs have different answers. Then I connected them in phone, let them talk to each other. It sounds like they are from different companies although they are both answering CIBC hotline lol. And they never take log on what did I say and the progress on my case. Every time they called back, they just ask "what can I do for you?" SERIOUSLY? You are the person who calls me to follow up the case. Every call back I need to spend 15mins to repeat the problem from the first beginning. What happened to this bank? Trust me, try something avoid CIBC.
Customer disservice
I was nearing my credit limit on my Aventura credit card and needed to rent a car at the airport. The rental company required a $750 preauth to complete the rental. Ok, that sucks, so I called customer service to confirm they would allow my card to go over limit in this case. The guy confirmed that yes it would be fine.
At the counter the card was declined. I called customer service and it was escalated to manager to whom I explained I was now going to be stranded at the airport. She told me to take the bus!
I completely understand the car rental position of needing the deposit and being closer to my limit already. I accept responsibility for that. But Take the bus?! Nope, that's not the level of customer service I expect from anywhere.
In addition, I've been with CIBC almost 15 years and they have zero problems with pushing me over the limit for their interest charges and their over limit fees.
I don't have any investments or my mortgage with CIBC so they probably won't give two sh*ts anyway, but I'm closing all my accounts there. Bye.
Took advantage of their interest free…
Took advantage of their interest free balance transfer. The rep told me my min payment would be $10 per month. After I received the funds I made a $520 dollar payment. This included the balance transfer fee. I checked my online account a few days later and the min payment for the end of the month was $497!! This is really bad. They misrepresented the product. When I called customer service they started talking about statement dates like it mattered. I MADE THE PAYMENT. I don’t care if your system is too stupid to catch it. Not doing this again with them. This is just the kind of predatory practices that ruin peoples credit. Mine is 900. Not gonna risk ruining it with bad banks.
CIBC at Copper Creek is useless
CIBC at Copper Creek is useless. I wanted to pay for my car loan and I waited a long time for someone to tell me I needed to go to a branch with tellers. I was pissed off as they lack customer service and communication. They sent me looking for other branches with tellers. Thank God I don't need to deal with them on a daily basis. I would be so irritated having to do banking with a branch without support.
CIBC screwed me royally
CIBC screwed me royally. May Costco Mastercard was corrupted on March 26th. They were to send me a new card and number. April 13 still no card. Will be at house by 5pm. Never showed. Called on 14th and told that card was never created or sent in March. Told a new card would be sent but to my florida address. Card didn't show up as of 17th. Called on 18th and given tracking number. Bogus number. Called on 20th and card had not been created or sent. Escalated as I was pissed. Told card would be rushed. Got a valid tracking number and card picked up at UPS store on 23rd. Vacation ruined. Offered me $500 but I wanted it Escalated still as they had 3 opportunities to fix the problem and didn't until the 4th attempt. Now Told by appeals that the case is closed and no compensation.
Brutal company.
Good Bye CIBC.
If there was a rating below one star, I would have gladly rated that. A pathetic bank when it comes to customer service. I have been a client of CIBC for more than 25 years, with all my savings, investment and mortgage with them. Booked an appointment with a financial advisor to review options and renew my mortgage. Appointment was set for 4:00 pm on May 06, 2026. Got a confirmation email as well. Took off early from work and got to bank in time just to find out the FA was not even in the bank that day. Lady at the reception looked lost and did not know how to deal with the situation. I requested to have a quick chat with the branch manager and she was reluctant to do so. Told me branch manager was busy. Really? This is 2nd time, it happened with me. Last time, the meeting was set for 4:00 pm as well but got a call from FA around 12:30 that she had to deal with an emergency and will be leaving soon so If I had to still meet with her I needed to rush to bank before 1:00pm. Awesome! As if we were free and at the disposal of CIBC. Anyway, this time, I lodged a formal complaint with CIBC (I have the ref number) and I was told someone will get back to me by tomorrow with a resolution to my concern or update me. Today is May 10 and regretfully, no one bothered to contact me. Time to say goodbye to CIBC!
Terrible customer service with hold times from 1 hour upwardss.y card while I was…
CIBC froze my card while I was working with a Just Host agent to renew my webcite. I called CIBC immediately to sort this out while the Just Host agent waited on another line. I was on hold for 41 minutes with CIBC until someone answered. The Just Host agent gave up waiting for me after half an hour. This is not the first time Ive waited extended times to get through to CIBC. Terrible customer service. I will be looking for a new Credit card elsewhere.. My time is too precious to be dealing with such poor customer service.
This is Not the Right Way to Run a Bank
Got a letter in the mail that a CD had matured a few weeks prior and had already renewed for another 13 months at 3.63% APY. This was the first notification I had gotten, and therefore I had missed the standard 10 days to decide if I wanted to redirect that money. Obviously, I would have. At a minimum, I could've bought a 1-year CD at CIBC for 4.0% APY, but I also could have gotten 4%+ at Vanguard or Raisin. The difference in interest would've been ~$760.
A critic might say I should have been proactive in tracking the CD's maturation date. However, anybody who buys CD's regularly tend to expect proper notifications. Anything else would not be competent, and CIBC is a very big company. Also, I knew CIBC's 1-year rate was 4.0%, which I was fine with. I had forgotten my CD was technically 13 months. Why would anyone want their CD renewed 13 months at 3.63% when they could get 12 months for 4.00%?
I complain immediately. CIBC refuses to do anything. I respond with a long email detailing all the things that I was prepared to do, i.e. permanently exile all my money from CIBC (3.5x the amount of the CD) as well as review on Trustpilot, Yelp, Smart Customer. CIBC then responds with a message that was, word for word, the exact same nondescript message that I had just responded to. CIBC's response was written in such a generic fashion that it reeked of some AI slop response. If it was written by a human, they've become a soulless bureaucrat. If CIBC thinks I will not act on my threats because they have some sort of leverage with their interest rates or they think I will be too lazy, they are in for a rude surprise. I am above the FDIC insurance limits, and I can get a better rate at Raisin or Vanguard. Also, I always follow up on my reviews.
There are other reasons to avoid CIBC. Their messaging system is buggy. Seems like anytime you use any special character, even a common one, or any of a gazillion reserved words, the system will spit out some ridiculous, vague Java Script error like {Result #0002} with inadequate diagnostics. Also, look at the other reviews. I am hardly the only one who couldn't get an ounce of useful help from a human being on an important situation.
CIBC through a third party vendor…
CIBC through a third party vendor gained unauthorized access to my credit card account and added chargeable product ! only thanks to ME i cancelled it before charges applied ! so i also cancelled credit card and bank account !
Disappointing Service Friction and Process Errors
Subject: Disappointing Service Friction and Process Errors
On March 25th, I requested a straightforward fund switch through the investment mutual fund CIBC/SIMPLI FINANCIAL call center. Despite reviewing the Fund Facts with the agent, the trade was processed incorrectly. It took until first week of May and over three hours of my time spread over March, April and May on multiple phone calls to resolve this, as I was forced to navigate a one-way communication system where I could not call agents back directly.
Despite the now compounding complications due to impacting three funds I hold, the supervisor demonstrated professionalism to his best ability given the circumstances; however, the resolution process involved significant and avoidable friction. Being told there was confusion from both parties about my own instructions, only for the to find out about their own error, was particularly a let down. I value my relationship with CIBC, but the administrative burden placed on the client to fix a bank error was significant. I am hoping CIBC takes this feedback seriously to improve their internal records and communication accessibility. I am prepared to update this rating once CIBC demonstrates proper service recovery and accountability for this significant personal time lost and effort.
DO NOT INVEST WITH CIBC
I got laid off from my job. Been with cibc for almost 20 years. Asked them to unlock a 500 GIC 1 year early due to undue hardship. They denied that request because "i was still recieveing EI". I just did the math and yearly in fees and payments I pay them roughly 770 a year in fees. My credit card just went over 61 dollars and they have been harassing my phone daily about 4-7 calls a day over 61.00..... you couldnt give me my own money but expect me to pay you more that I dont have?!?! Im about to switch banks.... I know corporate doesnt care and 800 a year isnt much ... but to loose 800 annually over 500 dollars you didnt even get to keep ... seems like really stupid, short sighted, and greedy business practice. And maybe 1 persons 800 doesnt mean much but keep it up cibc it wont just be me moving Banks.

CIBC has very poor service
CIBC has very poor service. it can take more then 2 weeks to get a replacement credit card.
Again, CIBC not recommended
Again, it's not recommended. Save your money and time.
In Quesnel, staff are not actively helping out.
Inadequate skills and training!!
Recent interaction with a local CIBC bank counter person left us feeling disrespected by their condescending attitude. We don't know her specific role as it seemed to much trouble to inform us that all she could do is book an appointment!
We felt interegated when sharing information requested. Ultimately we received an appointment date and time. As a business savy senior with significant funds on deposit and an excellent credit rating we the wrong people to treat this way. We've been with CIBC about 50 years. Disgusting and disappointing service.
Verification number transfers
There is no way to verify my transfers as my phone number is cancelled. Poorly set up system and extremely frustrating. My money is stuck in an account that I cannot use online at all. I am incredibly angry.
To get an account closed for a deceased…
To get an account closed for a deceased person with a small amount of cash is a total Fiasco. Probate for 2300 dollars and only 2 heirs. Both are trustees and executors with one not responding at all. What happened to a simple waiver to rid the bank of future responsibilities.
