Snooty, Arrogant, Conceited

I'm a music producer and I'm always looking for ways to give my songs a certain touch. For some time I have also been dealing with the spatial sound image in my songs.

Dolby itself offers software for music production with the Atmos features. Unfortunately, these have only been available for Apple for years. As a producer who works with Windows, this is an absolute no-go.

The Atmos Mastering Suite for Windows is offered as an alternative, but it cannot be purchased from the dealers listed on Dolby, and if it does exist, then only at horrendous prices.

The Dolby website only ever mentions Logic, Cubase, and Ableton. The best-selling DAW "FLStudio" is not even mentioned in a word.

It's just pure arrogance that drives Dolby.

In the end, I found out with my experiments that you don't need this suite at all and can compensate for this with plugins, some of which are free of charge.

Well, you don't get a Dolby license here and you can't use the logo on your products, but with a little paraphrasing that it's Atmos-like sound, you can convince customers here too.

If the customer then listens to the music with Atmos and with the Atmos-like variant, he will not notice any difference.

The company also doesn't tell its customers that Atmos isn't really that much better than 5.1 or 7.1.

Yamaha already had an Atmos alternative 15 years ago, where you could run 9.1 on a home amplifier and hear an Atmos experience, and still can today without paying a lot of money for new home theater hardware. Credit goes to the Yamaha DSPs.

Atmos for Headphones is another scam from the company, which suggests that customers can "get spatial sound out of stereo headphones". This is an outright lie. Stereo remains stereo, it always depends on how you place your sound in the production. You don't need Atmos for Headphones for this!

Apparently, people don't get it, as long as they see the Dolby symbol to be happy.

Poor support

Purchased Dolby Atmos for Headphones. Didn't work on my PC outside the Dolby Access app with my Logitech Pro X (no audio), so I contacted support. Instead of explaining I must plug them directly via phone connector without the included external USB sound card (DAC) - which fixes the issue -, they claimed "the Logitech Pro X are not compatible to be used with Spatial Sound" and offered no compensation despite the Logitech Pro X supporting DTS Headphone:X spatial sound and them advertising Dolby Atmos for Headphones works "through any set of headphones".
