The layout of the gym is good and the staff are friendly, thought that's all for the good points. The equipment is tired and regularly brakes, with very slow repair time. There seems to be a general... See more

Everlast York not recommended
Everlast York has failed to live up to its refurbishment. Although the gym equipment has been upgraded, the staff appear to be either uninterested or emasculated to the point of immobility; the décor has been heavily criticised (and staff say they have fed the many complaints back to head office); and the cafe hasn’t noticeably improved.
Judging by the lack of response to poor reviews on this website, it also appears that HQ doesn’t care what their customers think.
Taking each criticism (above) in order:
Staff respond to questions with little or no interest and simple things like cleanliness is not monitored. The sauna and steam room safety is monitored by someone opening the door and shouting ‘okay?’ and rushing off before he hears any response. The cleaning regime is clearly not adequate; for example there has been a piece of chewing gum in one of the urinals for over a week now. The screen display at the top of the stairs to the gym has been on the wrong resolution for ten days, most of the display window is not visible (indicating the amount of interest the staff take in their surroundings). The provision of paper and spray to wipe down equipment has been reduced to near zero – no notices encourage uses to leave equipment clean.
Decor: Whoever chose black as a corporate colour presumably never tries to use a combination padlock in the changing rooms – the down lights make it very hard to see the numbers and anybody who normally wears glasses has absolutely no chance. The showers need a simple obvious improvement – a small shelf to put one’s shampoo or shower gel on. The hook in the showers is pointless since a towel on that hook will get soaked. No doubt someone thought that black was ‘go-ahead and dynamic’ rather than drab, dark and uninspiring – it shows every mark from everyday use and restricts visibility.
The cafe: I wanted to buy a coffee today and was told there was no normal milk. That might have been bad enough, but I was then told that there had been no milk for one and a half weeks! Their suppliers had supplied the wrong milk. Fair enough, mistakes happen, but apparently the manager of the gym couldn’t (or couldn’t be bothered) tell the suppliers to sort this out immediately (ie. a week and a half ago) or go a quarter of a mile to buy milk from Tesco’s. What kind of organisation runs a cafe with no milk for one and a half weeks (apart from a vegan cafe)?
The one benefit of this lack of interest is that the gym and pool are never busy, it is always possible to use equipment. But the lack of interest in customers will make us look elsewhere soon enough even though this is the most convenient gym. If the owners want people to use the gym they need to take an interest in their clients, and enthuse and empower their staff. There is no obvious way to feedback constructive criticism to Everlast.
Hygiene standards have pushed me to ask…
Hygiene standards have pushed me to ask to leave my contract
I am a current member of Everlast Dunstable and I am now formally asking to be released from my contract because I no longer feel comfortable training there due to the hygiene situation.
This has not come from one isolated incident.
I have repeatedly experienced occasions where there has been no paper available to wipe down gym equipment, or where I have had to ask about cleaning spray.
On Sunday 13 September, I went into the gym and once again there was no paper available to wipe down the machines. I raised it with staff and was specifically told that they were expecting a delivery on Monday and that the paper would be replenished.
I returned on Tuesday 15 September expecting the problem to have been resolved.
Instead, I was told that there is now a new policy under which the cleaning paper AND spray bottles are being removed altogether.
I asked what members are now supposed to use to clean shared equipment before and after use. I was effectively told that if I wanted to clean equipment myself, I would need to provide my own cleaning materials.
I was also told that cleaners clean for only two hours during the day.
When I challenged the decision, I was told that the cleaning materials had only been introduced because of COVID. I was then also told that the cleaning products don't really work anyway because wiping the solution with the tissue simply wipes it off.
I found that explanation extraordinary.
This is a gym. People sweat and repeatedly share machines, benches, handles, weights and other equipment. Regardless of COVID, basic hygiene did not suddenly stop mattering when the pandemic ended.
What makes the situation worse is the attitude I experienced when raising these concerns. I spoke to a woman who indicated that she was a manager or assistant manager and found her extremely dismissive and rude. I did not feel that my concerns as a paying member were being taken seriously.
I am tied into a fixed-term contract and am now fighting to be released from it.
If Everlast chooses to change the cleaning arrangements during my membership, I believe I am entitled to question whether the service I originally agreed to pay for is still being provided to an acceptable standard.
I have now made this a formal complaint and am asking Everlast to terminate my membership without penalty.
My advice to anyone considering joining Everlast Dunstable is to visit the gym first, inspect the hygiene arrangements, ask how frequently the equipment is cleaned, ask what is provided for members to clean equipment themselves, and READ THE CANCELLATION TERMS before signing anything.
Based on my experience, I would not have joined if I had known then what I know now.
I phoned everlast about just going in…
I phoned everlast about just going in to see if i could swim as fell in the shower a yr ago.. i was a member but cancelled when i had the accident .. they phoned me back to say i could go.in , & asked the day ,i said tues morning.. goes in this morning to be told no cant go in.. as memebership lapsed.. well yes but i gave a months notice .. i said if i swim okay i will reinstate.. i told her the manager phoned to say it will be okay .. but no the woman on the desk said no..what is the point..customer service rubbish.. so for rehabilitatation looks like try another gym with pool , so annoying..
Members beware
This company have total disregard & respect for their staff and members.
The gave no one notice and simply emailed last night saying club ( Sale) closed!!!
PT “s have clients booked.
Swim lessons booked & paid for ( children showed up for lessons today 😢)
Members , some with 20 year plus status had no opportunity to say goodbye to staff or members.
The gym is a lifeline for many not just exercise but emotional & social support.
They treat you like a cash machine and a statistic .
Shame on you EVERLAST .
They make it as difficult as possible…
They make it as difficult as possible to cancel. Do not sign up what ever you do. Equipment was falling apart and changing facilities unhygienic.
Terrible gym
Terrible gym! Cancelled all classes and refuse to terminate my membership which I can no longer use.
Ocean Plaza - pool closure, again
Clearly Everlast, Ocean Plaza is seeing how low it can go in terms of degrading its services and resources and still have people pay. I've lost count of the number of days over the last few years the pool has been closed with no apology never mind compensation. Arrived today and found the pool closed - "for the foreseeable" according to the guy at the counter. The lack of email/message in this and multiple other similar instances (never mind the filth, broken equipment, etc.) fully indicates the contempt this appalling company has for its customers.
PRIDE PARK DERBY
PRIDE PARK DERBY
I pay a monthly membership to Everlast Gym, as do many others, and I expect a basic level of maintenance and organisation from a well‑known franchise — not months of broken equipment with no urgency to fix it. Several machines have been out of action for far too long, and the sauna has been unavailable for months with no clear update from staff. When you ask for a timeline, nobody seems to know anything, which makes it clear nothing is being properly managed behind the scenes.
There also appears to be no enforcement of gym etiquette. Equipment hogging is ignored, and members are left to deal with it themselves. On top of that, the pool is consistently cold, making it uncomfortable to use.
These issues need addressing. Until they are, I genuinely struggle to see why I should continue paying for a gym that isn’t meeting the standard its brand promises. For anyone considering joining, I’d recommend looking elsewhere.
Poor service, no flexibility, broken equipment
Thoroughly disappointed in the Everlast gym in the Beehive centre in Cambridge. As many have noted, staff do their best and are generally nice and competent but the equipment is often broken or unavailable, cleaning standards especially around the swimming pool are variable and sometimes really poor, and the whole place feels like it's falling apart. The swimming pool is sometimes unavailable for a few days, but we're not offered any refund.
My main issue is that both me and my wife have been advised not to use the gym for medical reasons but Everlast won't accept this as a reason for not paying them the extra month at the end of a subscription, so they are taking our money even though they have evidence we can't use the facilities. We talked to the manager at the Cambridge gym and they said they couldn't do anything as it was all 'head office', and pointed up - a great way to make it impossible to get anyway.
I am tired of them and would recommend anyone looking for a gym to stay well away.
Deteriorating facilities, poor hygiene, and zero communication
Slowly but surely, this has become a 1-star facility. Hygiene standards have completely dropped—there is hair and dust under and on top of equipment, and dirty corners throughout the gym. The changing room floors are consistently flooded with shower water, which immediately turns into a muddy mess as people walk through in outdoor shoes. Furthermore, parents are routinely allowed poolside while wearing dirty street footwear.
Member communication and value for money are practically non-existent. Despite paying for full access to facilities, key areas like the studio or whole sections of machines are frequently blocked off for group classes without any prior notice. If you arrive expecting to use specific equipment, you often end up wasting your trip.
The sauna situation is equally disappointing. It appears to receive minimal maintenance or deep cleaning, and it has currently been out of service for a full month. To make matters worse, management ignores member inquiries on the Everlast app regarding facility status, offering excuses only when confronted in person. If members are expected to pay full dues on time every month, management should provide the full access and service standard we pay for.
Very poor cleanliness
Sadly after training at this gym for over 10 years since Everlast have taken over I’ve made the decision to leave. I did alert management of this decision and they seemed to care very little and were more focused on making sure I pay for full notice period. The main reason for me leaving is the decline in cleanliness/hygiene. The toilets within the changing rooms are always out of order/overflowing and extremely dirty. The showers that you have to go through to get to the pool are poorly maintained, having to avoid hairs etc. on the floor and the soap dispensers are always empty. The steam room is also frequently out of order and the back wall of the steam room (located in the gym) has been leaking/damp for ages which again raises concerns.
The gym equipment is okay and wasn’t an issue although we have been promised of a refurb for quite some time…
Not enough exercise machines
Install another maschine for pumping the inner muscles of the legs! It's always busy 🤬
And glute bridge simulator is also very uncomfortable (it's good PURE gym).
Review
I have recently made the very difficult decision to leave Everlast in Leigh after 13 years as a self-employed fitness instructor, and it is genuinely sad to see how much the club has changed.
When I first started, there was a fantastic sense of community. Members knew each other, instructors knew their members, and there was a real feeling that people mattered. Sadly, in my experience, that community spirit has gradually disappeared under the new management.
It feels increasingly as though the focus is on numbers through the door rather than the people walking through it. A gym should be about much more than memberships and numbers — it should be about supporting members, building relationships and creating an environment where people actually want to come back.
As an instructor who has cared enormously about my classes and the members I've taught over the years, this has been extremely disappointing to witness.
The final straw in my decision to seek work elsewhere was the ongoing inconsistency with payments. I have experienced repeated issues with being paid incorrectly and/or late, and I am still owed money dating back to March. Despite raising this, the issue remains unresolved.
Leaving after 13 years was not a decision I took lightly. I have made some wonderful friendships and memories at Everlast, and most importantly, I will always value the incredible members and people I have met along the way.
It is the members and the community that made the club special — and I genuinely hope that, in the future, the focus can return to them.
Appalling waste of money
I've been a long-term member of my local Everlast gym, where I mostly go to swim. A few years ago, Everlast carried out an "elevation" of the gym, which included removing two jacuzzis, two showers, a water fountain and half of the lockers. This is supposed to be an improvement... This year, the pool has been closed for about half of the time from June onwards, with no offer of compensation. Now it's going to be closed for the next two weeks for work that could have been done while it was closed previously. It's absolutely unacceptable. The local team are good, but can't do anything about it. The UK management and CEO never respond to communications and presumably aren't interested in the customer experience. I'm seriously considering legal action to get back money I've already paid, but the promised facilities haven't been available.
If you're thinking of joining Everlast, think again. They only want your money.
Denton gym- and getting charged for no reason
Denton gym- Only positive from the gym is it was big and had plenty of machines. The bad side is the male changing room had an awful rotting smell. The gym charged me for a month whilst the gym was closed & also moved my membership to the Trafford gym without any communication from myself. I searched online how to cancel my membership it said contact the gym. I have contacted multiple Everlast gyms as the Denton one is closed and none of them can help me I have sent emails to 3 different email addresses hoping it will resolve my issue. As of yet no luck and get money taken out my account for something I didn’t sign up for. Absolutely horrendous service considering the size of the Everlast brand/gym.
Would not recommend.
Be careful joining with yearly…
Be careful joining with yearly contract. After the year finish you can't leave, they will not answer your automatic renewal cancellation request. Basically once you set up direct debit you will struggle to stop the payments if you don't want to go anymore even after finishing the yearly contract. Rugby gym manager no reply, Everlast contact email no reply.
STAY AWAY!

Poole Everlast Cheap but disappointing
I was a member of Poole Everlast for over a year. Very often the showers smell and are not very clean, there are also small insects around the drain area. The steam room is very often closed for extended periods of time (weeks). The gym has good facilities but often machines are broken. There's also a smashed mirror that hasn't been repaired for months. Whilst membership is cheap it is very difficult to get booked onto classes unless you have the more expensive membership. Staff are reasonably friendly. You're meant to get a free month if you refer a friend to the club (which I did). When I wrote to the manager to enquire they just said it's too late because I'm soon leaving the club. The manager also took about 2 weeks to reply to emails. The pilates classes are good but very full.
Won’t be renewing my membership
It’s an ok gym. Most of the machines don’t work half the time, a few will be out of order for ages and once they’re fixed something else is broken. Steam room is constantly broken every other month. For what we get charged; and now that there’s a late fee being put on top you’d think there’d be more accessible equipment; more than one of the leg machines/abductors, squat press, hip trust etc. You’d also expect the machines to be working.
Everlast Plus, Gillingham, Kent
This gym used to be owned by Roko Health clubs until it was acquired by the Fraser Group in December 2024.
As Roko it was a club in every sense of the word - friendly, welcoming, informal, offering an opportunity for people to socialise whilst keeping fit. However, once Everlast acquired it things very rapidly went downhill. All the windows were blacked out, walls painted black and little or no maintenance to the pool. Anti-bacterial wipes to clean down the machines afterwards, gone. Loyalty card giving discount on coffee, gone. It was then closed for two months during June and July this year while it was being 'elevated'.
Despite the term, there has been little or no elevation in my view. Previously we had two studios for a variety of classes and a separate studio for Spin. One has now been converted into a high intensity workout area for Hustle and Haymaker classes and the other for Reformer Pilates. The area previously used for Spin is now used for floor Pilates and yoga but the room is very cramped. Most of the other classes have been withdrawn and the freelance PT's let go; including those who were very popular. What classes do remain, are booked out instantly because there are now too few classes for too many members! All the old cardio and resistance machines have been ripped out and new ones put in. However, these are inferior compared to the old ones which connected to the internet for viewing YouTube etc. Frankly I am not naïve enough to believe this is in order to reduce their carbon footprint by saving energy; more likely a way for Fraser Group to save money. The machines are left in a disgusting state after people have finished using them because they don't feel inclined to provide their own wipes. Everlast however refuse to supply them or even a spray and paper towel for members to use. The swimming pool appears to have had little done to it other than a few light bulbs replaced; the jacuzzi has been ripped out and the sauna is out of action for the foreseeable future!
If all this wasn't bad enough, the membership prices are way higher than Roko charged and will be imposed on existing members upon renewal. Many have chosen to leave and I imagine many more will do so at the end of their contract/notice period. On the basis Everlast did not consult or give members any notice that the facilities and classes previously enjoyed were being withdrawn, the Manager was asked if the usual three months' notice period could be waived or at least reduced to one month. This was refused and must surely constitute a frustration of the contract.
The staff are pleasant enough but they all speak the party line. Possibly in fear of their jobs; most likely because they know the Fraser Group business plan does not include members who are older, looking for social interaction and wanting more than a fast workout fix.
I would urge anyone looking to join a gym in the Medway towns area to shop around and go anywhere other than Everlast, Plus or no Plus!
