Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 79 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people found customer service to be appalling, unhelpful, and difficult to reach, often encountering long wait times and inadequate responses. Customers frequently reported significant issues with payment processing, including lost funds, unauthorized transactions, and accounts being locked or wiped without clear explanation. Additionally, the process for identity verification and updating details was described as difficult and frustrating, with some feeling unprotected in scam cases. However, some customers also noted positive aspects, particularly appreciating the absence of international transaction fees and account fees. A few other people also felt that they had positive experiences with customer service, especially when disputing transactions, and some long-term customers expressed overall satisfaction, reporting no problems.

The service can be very arrogant when things go wrong. So I am very glad to have cancelled my account with them. Why bother with a bank where you have to struggle to access and keep your money secure. Not surprised others have said they were ageist. Probably sexist too. They pretend to be pro-cryptocurrency but they are not. So dont believe the online stuff about that. They are also very tetchy about social media which is very bigoted in this day and age.

We have been with ING for a while

We have been with ING for a while. The base interest rate is 0.1 % (ie zero). The conditions are very strict - monthly deposits, card transactions and balance increases. Why? They don't want to pay - simplies!

Lack compassion & humanity

Lack compassion, lack empathy & lack common sense on how to perform basic requests. They will handball EVERYTHING back to the customer to do via app or online portal & refuse to offer any human assistance. Any response is purely a copy pasted script. Completedly dehumanisong.

Accounts closed in full, even while with them the fees and the way they structure things is HIGHLY questionable. Avoid.

Really poor customer service

Really poor customer service
There was a detail incorrect on my account so they blocked everything including d/d set ups and total access to my account. This account was set up in 2024 and this error has been on there the whole time. I did the required steps to rectify the error on my profile and the response I got was that they would try to get back within 4 working days. A long time to be with out use of your daily account. I called to see if it could be expedited due to the urgency of me needing access and they just blocked me an said I had to wait. I had to borrow from a friend and all my direct debits were declined. Absolutely appalling with lack of flexibility an unwillingness to assess situations to understand if thy are priority. I will be closing my account down as soon as I have set up a new one with bank recommended by a friend who has also left ING due to also experiencing really poor customer service

New app is atrocious, but customer service is still good

Terrible. Used to be a decent banking experience, evergreen without branches and outlets. Doesn't care about customers anymore, judging by their response to the new app, which is awful, user-unfriendly, lacks the helpful features of the old app, but which seems here to stay, despite the countless pleas and requests for the old app to be brought back.
I have had some excellent customer service when reversing our disputing a transaction, so that service is still faultless, but the insistence on persisting with the current app is mind-boggling and nonsense.

Poor app experience and poor customer service

If you decide to deposit into ING, a warning to make sure you read - and remember - the Ts and Cs because ING won't make it easy for you. I was a longstanding customer of ING, however in recent years the hoops to jump through have increased, to receive reduced benefits (i.e. bonus interest) - which isn't as good as other institutions anyway. But the catalyst for me withdrawing my money from ING and taking it elsewhere was a very poor experience with the Savings Maximiser account, which only accrued bonus interest on balances up to a certain amount. The way the interest was displayed in the app meant that the face of the interest screen confirmed you were getting bonus interest but you were only reminded that it was on a limited amount if you clicked through to a second screen. I provided feedback to ING on this, and also suggested that it would have made me feel valued as a customer if I'd received a message to ask if I realised I wasn't receiving interest on the whole balance. I was told this was because ING can't give financial advice. I am not sure how telling someone that their money is earning minimal interest is giving financial advice. Anyway, I have moved my money somewhere that gets me a much better interest rate with far fewer hoops to jump through and their app clearly shows me the interest I am earning.

Workcover and mortgage

I have banked with ING since they began, and we now have a mortgage with them. We have never been late, and always pay above the stipulated amount. The issue being, I am currently on workcover and looks likely I will be on it until retirement age, 7 more years . We are wanting to get some extra money on our mortgage for renovations, however they will not take into account my workcover wage, and therefore will not grant us what we ask for. It seems that many things we attempt to do, we hit a road block because of workcover. I didn’t choose this, but it seems we are constantly being punished for it.
We know we can afford the extra payments otherwise we wouldn’t apply. We are therefore being pushed to switch banks.

worst super

he website is extremely difficult to navigate, and even finding basic information such as your own account details can be frustrating. Simple things like the fund ABN, membership information, or investment details are much harder to locate than they should be.

On top of that, there is very little transparency regarding investment performance and portfolio information. Compared to other super funds, the app and website feel outdated and poorly designed.

Absolutely appalled at the service I have been given my account has been stopped for no apparent reason. I’ve given all relevant documentation required a number of times i’m a single parent with three children and unable to access any of my funds I am absolutely appalled YING I’ll be taking this matter further as it’s now been 3 1/2 weeks and no answers have been given. Also ING have lied and told me that my other bank had put through a report and CBA have stated that is untrue. The lies and the unprofessionalism very unfair

ING is basic banking only, not flexible.

I've done basic banking and credit card with ING for years, but am retiring soon and going traveling, and I want to simplify my banking and move it all to ING. I also want to be sure that I have enough credit card limits to travel without having to check balances and move money between accounts in dodgy parts of the world.
Trouble is: ING doesn't work.
Over time the small credit card limit I set has become inadequate, but ING won't raise credit limits. I have to get a new credit card with ING with a new credit limit that also can't be raised in the future, and has annual fees.
Mastercard will raise my credit limit, but can I pay it off monthly using ING? No, because ING don't have an overdraft or way to link a savings account, so unless you're prepared to leave heaps of cash in the everyday account, there's no way to be sure that it will pay off a bill.
So now I'm stuck with two banks, two credit cards, and the ING ones are the inflexible ones. I was going to close down all my other banking and move it all to ING. Not now.

THE WORST Customer Service in Aus banking + complicated customer onboarding

One of the most complicated customer onboarding process, and THE WORST customer service over the phone I have ever experienced. The staff was soooo impatient when they entered the call after 20-min wait. And when they start asking you security questions, just be prepared because they will give you the worst attitude when you couldn't remember. I asked about how to activate my accounts and they just told me to delete my app and download it again, no reasoning or troubleshooting advice given. I just hope they can experience this level of service themselves so at least they can have some basic level of empathy as a human being.

I’ve been with ING for about 14 years now and I’m still there so can’t be too bad. I’ve had a home loan with them which was a good product. One of the few banks that give you zero international transaction fees. Online banking is a breeze. No monthly’s either. I haven’t had to deal with customer service all that often which is a good thing but when I did they were great. Hard to fault.
