Evaluating 58 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently complained about extremely unhelpful customer service representatives, long waiting times, and completely unresponsive phone support when attempting to resolve urgent financial issues. Additionally, people reported unexpected monthly account fees, frustrating payment holds, and continuous difficulties safely accessing their own hard-earned money at local branches. Joke

Literally worst bank ever. I had my checking acct here with direct deposits from the same jobs for almost a year now, I've received a tax refund in this account, always had a decent balance and managed my account well, and when I was in a true jam they wouldn't even allow me to overdraft a lousy $200.00 for a car payment I so desperately needed. If your looking for a financial institution that has your back if you were ever falling short- stay far from here.

Nasty teller at Ransomville NY…

There’s a teller at the Ransomville NY location that is extremely nasty and purposely does things to upset the customer. Date of service is approximate. It’s happened three times so far.

This is the most absolute

This is the most absolute, horrible, horrible, horrible event I’ve ever experienced in my whole life run far far away. Don’t open an account here they are crooks and they do whatever they want with your money stay away. Trust me they place holds and say there’s nothing they can do about it.

I banked with First Bank for 20 years

I banked with First Bank for 20 years, when it merged into PNC Bank the service was not the same. So I ventured out to try a new Bank that I felt would meet my needs and have good Customer Care. I discovered KeyBank is the most horrible Bank I have ever imagined. I have been six weeks into the new bank account and still do not have an active debit card. They sent me a card that did not work the second one actually had fraud on it before I even received it in the mail. They offered to send yet a third card with different numbers on it to prevent fraud. Great idea! But now I have to change all my online automatic pay to a new card. Some of these places require me to sign affidavits to transfer a bank account payment. Again, this has made my day-to-day very exhausting with finances. I did not realize how difficult it is to wait in longer lines at the store to pay cash, and just putting gas in your vehicle can cause you to go in and out of the store to make sure the right amount is paid to fill your gas tank. I had to travel this last week and it was the most difficult thing to have to use cash only. Their care for their customers is horrific. The last six weeks have been exhausting for me as a senior citizen to have to pay cash for everything and go to the bank during banking hours to access my own funds. I am not asking for anything unreasonable. My end goal is very simple: I just want a debit card that works so I can use my own money and live my everyday life without this additional burden. They said they can send a new card UPS in two days. That’s what they did last time and it took six days. Hence the reason I had to travel without a card. I offered to pay right out of my bank account for an overnight card to make life just a little easier for what I’ve gone through, and they refused. A great example of their Customer Care is no reply from emails that I have sent to their corporate offices.

I have always had excellent service…

I have always had excellent service from all of my Key Banks that I’ve used. However, I just had a terrible experience. I accidentally sent a payment to Allstate for over $100 when that payment was meant to go to another payee from my checking account. I haven’t been with Allstate in over two years yet without a policy number they cashedthe check. My bank said I have to go through them at Allstate to fix this. The person on the phone from Allstatewas not helpful but said I would get an email within 15 minutes with instructions of what to do. That was a month ago. How is it possible that they accept a payment that is not attached to any policy. I’m still waiting for a return call and an email from Allstate backseat driver ever I’d rather have you sit next to meand nobody there has helped me. They keep telling me to call the bank and the bank keeps telling me to call them. They cashed the check they accepted payment from a customer they no longer have. How is this Legal? I’ve written negative review about Allstate as well, but this is my bank for well over 30 years and they did almost nothing to help me.

KeyBank failed to protect me after a moving-company dispute

I disputed a charge involving Safe Ship Moving Services after the company they hired misrepresented the delivery situation and demanded substantially more money. The carrier falsely claimed our furniture had to be unloaded and transferred to shuttles in order to deliver to our home on a Navy base in Key West. That was not true.

KeyBank initially credited the disputed money back to my account, which made me believe they understood the seriousness of the situation. Then they reversed that decision and took the money back, leaving us with a loss of approximately $3,000.

What is especially upsetting is that KeyBank had information showing that Safe Ship Moving Services hired a company that gave us false information, yet KeyBank still decided against us. I expected my bank to carefully investigate the evidence and protect its customer from deceptive business practices. Instead, I was left feeling ignored and financially abandoned.

This experience has seriously damaged my trust in KeyBank. Customers should know that even when a dispute involves documented misrepresentation, KeyBank may initially issue a credit and later reverse it, leaving the customer responsible for the loss.

I would not recommend relying on KeyBank to stand behind you in a serious merchant dispute.

Been with KeyBank since I turned 18

Been with KeyBank since I turned 18. Given them 11 years and they suck! Constant maintenance that causes inconvenience when I need to access my account. Sometimes my card gets marked for fraud on purchases I make and use often. Then I have to spend 45-1 hour going through all my personal transactions to confirm purchases that were all made by me. Incredibly inconvenient. After 11 years I am leaving KeyBank.

I AM LEAVING KEYBANK

I AM LEAVING KEYBANK. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!
Keybank sent me a defective updated M/C; it did not work after it was activated. It took me an 1.5 hours to discover that the card was the problem. I spent another 2 hours in 3 separate calls to Key Customer Service.

I live with severe chronic illness & having a working credit card is essential as I need to purchase everything online. Many of my bills are set up as auto pay on my credit card directly or thru PayPal to the same card.

Yesterday I was promised a new card would be Rush ordered overnight and I would receive it today. I was repeatedly lied to. On my 4th call to a Supervisor he said it looked like the card mailed today (I would not receive it today) and I would need to use me debit card in the meantime. I NEED TO HAVE AN ACTIVE CREDIT CARD TO PURCHASE ESSENTIALS & IN CASE OF EMERGENCY. I LIVE ALONE WITH SEVERE CHRONIC ILLNESS. I NEED A WORKING M/C DELIVERED TO MY HOME TODAY.

I AM LEAVING ALL CORPORATIONS THAT MAKE MY LIFE HARDER & WORSE. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE & INEXCUSABLE WHEN THE INITIAL NON WORKING CARD IS KEY'S FAULT & HAS CREATED SO MUCH UNNECESSARY STRESS AND THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME KEY HAS MISTREATED ME & MY ACCOUNT. I HAVE BEEN WITH KEY SINCE I WAS 12YO; I'M 64Y0. I HAVE HAD IT!!! I WILL TRANSFER ALL MY BANKING TO A LOCAL CREDIT UNION THAT DOESN'T SUPPORT FOSSIL FUELS & FASCIST CORPORATIONS.

The bank reneged twice in providing the promotional interest rate they offered to me. Right in the middle of a guaranteed 6 month cycle the interest rate on a large sum of money was reduced with no notification causing me a loss of about $600 in promised interest. 2nd time it happened in a few months. Pathetic from several points of view. WILL NOT TRUST THEM WITH SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF MONEY!!

Unacceptable ATM Limitations and Costly Transfer Delays Review

Review Draft: Unacceptable ATM Limitations and Costly Transfer Delays Review Title: KeyBank refuses $100 bills at ATMs while competitors handle them instantly.Review Text:KeyBank is officially the only bank I use that completely refuses to let me deposit a $100 bill at their ATM. I tried depositing a $100 bill at the Stump Road KeyBank branch ATM yesterday at 6:00 AM, and the machine rejected it. I tried again this morning, and it refused it yet again.Frustrated, I drove down the street to Citizens Bank, put the exact same $100 bill into their ATM, and it was accepted instantly without a single issue. Because KeyBank’s technology failed to accept legal tender, I was forced to deposit my money into my Citizens account and initiate an online transfer over to KeyBank. Now, KeyBank is holding my money, and the transfer is going to take 7 full days to clear.Making a basic cash deposit shouldn't require a week-long waiting game just because KeyBank's ATMs can't handle large bills. Absolutely terrible banking experience.for free Thank you,Linda Babik

if i could give a minus there would be…

if i could give a minus there would be 28. We have been loyal customers for 28yrs, NEVER a late payment with a mortgage and NEVER a late payment in our credit report in 57 years, Keybank was hacked 5 times, This sixth time they claim they were not hacked but while using a law office that was hacked and they got Key customers info. On12/30/25 we were perfect in every area of our finances and had to submit everything to KEY's mortgage dept and lawyer. At the end of jan/26 our banking accounts were hacked and 25K was stolen and the IP address never ours showed but instead of KEY going after that thief they let this thief take that money and buy online stocks. THEY KNOW WHERE THE STOCKS WENT to Chicago and CT and the transactions were made in Buffalo while we were in Florida. Still they have now demanded we pay that stolen money back or they will foreclose on our home. NO LOYALTY OR CARE TO GET TRUTH. JUST PAY UP OR WE FORECLOSE. After 28years that is the loyalty we got. MY question what did they do with those folders of our information when we bought the house in 12/30/25?? reckless and without care. our information was left to the public. They will not listen to reason. IF I WANTED TO ACCESS THE LINE OF CREDIT I DONT NEED TO GO INTO MY HUSBANDS BANK ACCOUNT SINCE WE SHARED ACCESS!!! When i said that to them they changed the accusation from I did it to he did it. THEY DONT WANT TO ADMIT we are not the guilty party but their poor security was.

I am disabled and lowincome while waiting for a disability hearing .Key bank made it impossible to cash a key bank goverment check at any local stores that usually cash other checks .The way the numbers are on paper its impossible .You cant use online banking with a goverment phone the camera will not allow it on my phone .there fore i use my son phone to do online banking but then they send a code to verify its me in my govement phone with text .well i got a new phone number and i wanted to update my phone number.I called to update my new phone number and she said to go bank in person thats not close to my home .I had to get a ride there and the lady at desk was rude to me when i said my son cash my checks for me but i use my phone to verify code .She was mean and nasty saying i cant use his phone but i been for over a year now .I cant afford to buy a fancy phone but i verify its me when they send a code to my personal phone number .no other bank in piqua will cash key banks checks .I feel key bank makes hardship on anyone that cant afford a fancy phone or lacks good transportation.I live in piqua ohio and my disabilities make it impossible for me to drive myself .Im consider write to agencies for discrimination because keybank is not friendly to people that are lowincome or disabled .I believe when its brought to many people attention and lawyer and other agencies i can prove i have been discrimination against .also i had to open a key bank account just to cash my little check i get from piqua villiage apartments not because i wanted but because there is absolutely no where to cash this little 59, dollar check in piqua and i wont be harasssd by keybank because i cant afford a fancy phone to do online bank. They need to allow me to continue use my son phone and my phone number for code or i will contact every legal aid possible and sue key bank for discrimination and i dont believe your bank doors are handicap friendly either .

To make big bucks fast! But doesn't follow the law.

This is the bank you want if you want to make big bucks fast! When using Remote Deposit Capture (deposit by smartphone) at this bank, you can scrub a check to increase the dollar amount to the quantity of your choice! Banks are required by law to use advanced imaging technology via algorithms (computer programs) to prevent fraudulent checks from being cashed, but apparently, their detection system doesn't work. This had been going on for the past 12 months (totalling 63 checks), draining my sister's (who has Alzheimer's) bank account. The worst part was that the check revisions were blatantly obvious! The Keybank representative said there's nothing we can do about it; you need to eat the losses.

Horrible Experience with Key Bank Lending

In Moderation
Reviewed May 31, 2026

Our solar panel loan is through Keybank. I have paid our loan every month on time since 2021 with one exception due to an online banking issue. When my husband was about to pass away in February 2026, I contacted them to move the account into my name. 99% of their business is only done through email with it often taking days for a response. They told me I would have to apply for a new loan in my name or pay off the loan, but the loan paperwork was all about buying a new house which didn't make sense. That was infuriating since it was just the same home in both our names.
When I finally got enough info. to file paperwork, I apparently missed ONE encrypted email asking for more information. The next info. I got about a month later was that I hadn't finished the loan application and that they were about to call in the loan. I missed one phone call on May 20, 2026 and returned that the next day. I immediately started new paperwork, but then I was told that as of May 26th, the loan had already been sent to a collections agency. That was the same day I received a notice by mail that they were calling in the loan for over $13,000. THAT WAS THE FIRST AND ONLY INFORMATION SENT BY REGULAR MAIL. Supposedly, they made numerous attempts to collect the debt. If they could send an actually letter about sending the debt to a credit union. Since I was only able to talk to a live person twice in three months, I did not have the information I needed to resolve things in a timely manner.

I've read KeyBank is under investigation

I've read that KeyBank is under review by Connecticut banking authorities and Federal Banking authorities for fraud. They've been holding customers money for excessively long. And blocking people's accounts to delay their access to the fund so they can collect interest. I've experienced this myself twice the first was with a bank check from my sister from a Connecticut Bank in Bristol which was totally fine and they would not release the funds they put a block on my account and even though they withdrew the funds from her account which was very fine for her by her bank they would not release the funds to me the second one was from a bank check which was supposed to be released the same day or next business day they blocked that account and they wouldn't tell me when it would be available they said they would have to investigate it they said that would be at least 7 days and it was a bank check the funds were available from a reputable Bank. When I found out they were being investigated for fraud I could I could confirm that myself and I closed my account

This bank has poor customer service in the local branch. They are rude, and pushy. They are constantly trying to get you to open more accts, frequently calling asking you to come in and discuss more financial options. They are like used car salesmen. They aren't friendly and seem to hate their jobs. I have had many fraudulent charges, which can take up to 90 days to get resolved.

No words.. False advertising to the fullest. Where is this so called professional customer service? Customer Care service representatives are absolutely clueless. Do not undersand basic English, customer needs. There must be leagal recorse to hold KEY BANK accountable. False advertising as I am yet to find a professional customer service representative. Or even a person that can actually do hos or her job. Better off with your money under your mattress. Absolutely disgusting what we as clients have to endure. 2 weeks of this and nothing.
