need to share my experience to warn…
need to share my experience to warn others.
When I purchased my KTM 1290 Super Duke GT new in 2017, it came with a welcome pack (wallet, PowerParts catalogue, key card, mobility card, KTM pen). However, I was supplied with only one black key. At the time, I had no idea this would later render the motorcycle unusable.
When that single key was lost two years ago, what should have been a routine replacement escalated into a complete nightmare.
I contacted Laguna Motorcycles and spoke to Keith in the parts department, who was helpful and assured me there was “no problem” and that a replacement key could be ordered using the key card information. I was also advised previously by KTM Austria to go through the original supplying dealer, which I did.
After waiting a month, I chased the order. Laguna confirmed they had followed this up with KTM Austria. At no point was I informed that:
• a replacement key would not be programmed,
• a master (orange) key was required,
• or that the ECU was VIN-locked from the factory, making recovery impossible without it.
As the situation progressed, I was then told I would need a new ignition lock and immobiliser. Individual parts were unavailable and quoted on back order for up to six months, while a full lock set was available at a cost of around £1,000. Still, there was no clear explanation that the bike could not be made operational due to factory VIN locking.
Two years on, the motorcycle remains unusable. What began as the loss of a single key has resulted in a premium motorcycle effectively being a write-off, due to failures in process, communication, and the lack of mandatory equipment being supplied at the original sale.
This is not a mechanical failure — it is a support and handover failure. A new motorcycle should not be sold without the basic, essential components and clear information required to keep it usable at 9000 miles
A very expensive lesson learned. I will not buy another KTM, and I would strongly advise others to think carefully and double-check all keys and documentation before accepting handover. It is now 7th January 2026
Ofter sales is very poor
Ofter sales is very poor , they not kept the proper spare parts, very bad experience .
Worse company that doesnt care about the after sale service!
I live in Malta and I own a KTM 690 Enduro R, I brought it to the KTM workshop to make a repair in 2024, over a year ago here on Malta!
My Motorcycle came back beginning April 2025 and I paid 1'200 euros to change the all part that was faulty after 5 days again.
I brought back the bike to the repair shop in Malta and KTM Malta said they ordered the part under guarantee that was faulty on the new part they cahnged, it has been now since beginning April 2025 that I am again waiting that the Motorcycle comes back to me.
I have contacted several time KTM AG in Austria and this has been without success. The Service is the worse I have ever had dealing with people who dont care about their customer.
Is this normal that your motorcycle is since nearly 1 year and 6 month in a workshop?
Is it normal that KTM AG doesnt do anything about it knowing that the part was new and under warranty and that I wait now again since 6 month?
Is it normal that the customer service doesn't answer your emails?
I cant recommend them at all they are really unreliable and super unprofessional!!!
This is the case number : CS0658725
They didnt even took the time to answer....

Urgent Complaint - Excessive Delay in Warranty Repair of KTM 1290 Super Adventure S
Dear KTM Customer Service,
I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the unacceptable situation regarding my
motorcycle - a KTM 1290 Super Adventure S, VIN VBKV79400PM983912, purchased new in
Germany (dealer: Pepa Bikes) with first registration on 12/06/2023. The bike has 13,500 km, all
ridden by myself, and is still well within the manufacturer's warranty period.
Unfortunately, the bike has been immobilized since 29/05/2025 at an official KTM service center in
Vigo, Spain (ANCA S.L., CIF B36603447) due to a fault in the immobilizer system.
I have been informed by the workshop that the required replacement part will not be available until
at least 23/08/2025. That implies almost three full months without the use of a motorcycle that was
bought new precisely to ensure mobility and reliability - not downtime and frustration.
This situation is completely unacceptable. The unavailability of essential parts for a current model
under warranty seriously damages KTM's reputation as a premium brand. I purchased a KTM to
benefit from quality and professional after-sales service, and this experience is far from that.
Therefore, I request an urgent resolution, specifically:
1. Immediate action to supply the required part without further delay;
2. A clear plan to repair the motorcycle as soon as possible;
3. A formal apology and possible compensation for the prolonged immobilization;
4. Assurance that such failures in logistics and customer support will not happen again.
If I do not receive a response within five (5) business days, I reserve the right to escalate this case
to European consumer protection authorities, expose the issue publicly, and seek legal
compensation for the loss of use and associated damages.
I look forward to your prompt response.
Sincerely,
Rui Miguel Durão Afonso

Think Twice Before Buying a KTM
Think Twice Before Buying a KTM! 🚨
I bought a brand-new KTM390 ADV, but it was defective from day one, leaking oil. Despite three service visits, the issue remained until the fourth time, when they finally picked up the bike and fixed it.
🚨 Key Issues:
❌ 17 out of 30 days in service—unacceptable for a new bike.
❌ Fraudulent Delivery Certificate—pre-ticked checks despite defects.
❌ Screeching front brake—dealership says it's "normal."
❌ Refund denied—they "fixed" the bike instead.
KTM’s quality control failed, and the dealership’s service was incompetent. If you want a reliable bike, look elsewhere!

Worst and most expensive experience Ive…
Worst and most expensive experience Ive ever had.
My new KTM stand me in just over 16k with all the extras- but broke down after 6 months with an over heating fault.
P&H Crawley run some test and gave me the bike back but it continued to over heat & use coolant at a vast rate.
P&H then lost there KTM status so the next dealer was KTM Croydon- so I called and they could offer me any dates to book the bike in.
It broke down again 3 days later so I used the recovery card the new bike came with and it was taken to Croydon anyway.
I called KTM and said the engine has run without coolant multiple times over the last few months and needs to be thoroughly checked- they had no interest in doing so & just changed to water pump seal.
The engine is damaged- under powered and runs like it’s 150 years old. The clutch was so hard due to all the water in with the oil- it was a creamy mess filled to the brim!
5 weeks later it was finally ready to collect. They never once returned my phone calls either!
The bike was covered in oily hand prints and other dirt (was immaculate upon arrival)
And how can I sell it- it’s worthless now, trade I was offered 5k…. That’s over 11k lost in 1 year.
I would never buy a KTM again and would advise anyone thinking about it not to.
Just getting them booked in for a service is a joke- 6 weeks wait and a hour drive! Absolutely terrible company to deal with
How KTM are still in business beggars…
How KTM are still in business beggars belief, Every aspect of the company and it's franchises fails in every department, with the exception of taking your money.
I have had the same experience as others on this site, buying a bike from new, warranty issues etc. in the end sold the bike and would never touch KTM again.
Unfortunately in the off road enduro, they have bought up most of the competition, so brands like husqvarna and gas gas who had a loyal following now fall under KTMs disrespectful diabolical attitude to customers.
I recently ordered a rear brake master cylinder from the The World of KTM.
A received a brake line.
The description on their website and the invoice I received clearly stated rear brake master cylinder
When I tried to complain I was told the part number superseded the original part.
You tell me. How does a brake line replace a master cylinder. Typical clueless KTM,
Thankfully we still have a number of European manufacturers that offer a professional and knowledgeable approach to customers, Triumph and BMW to name two.
I recently bought a 24 300 XC-W
I recently bought a 24 300 XC-W. The motor failed with 2.2 hours on the bike and left me stranded in the mountains. i took it to the dealership for a warranty fix being that it was 12 days old and KTM has gone radio silent. no response to me or the dealership. they simply refuse to do anything but sit on their lazy asses and ignore it. its been a month now and no response. i gave it one star because i cant give them 0 stars. so if your thinking about a KTM just dont. not only will you be buying a new bike, youll be paying to fix it no matter what happens at any point in time. KTM is a scum bag company through and through.
The honesty of this business blew me away
This is going to be the most honest and straight up truthful review you've ever read I bought a 2006 KTM recently and I needed a gasket for the bike I called down to this KTM Cafe dealer and told him what I needed and they ordered it they called me when it came in and I picked it up and took it home when I started working on the bike I realized that the gasket was the wrong one but it was my fault I took the gasket back and spoke with the owner he knew that it was my fault he knew that I'm the one that ordered the wrong part but yet he still returned it for me that's not even a good part a couple of weeks later my KTM wasn't starting so I took it into him and ask him if he would check it out they told me that it was about 170 something dollars an hour to diagnose it I thought whoa that's a lot of money but I did it anyway so I went and looked at some bikes a little while later he came back out and gave me the diagnosis of the bike it was a bad battery wire I thought damn $200 to tell me that a bad battery and I was prepared to pay it it's a lot of money but I was going to pay it because that's what they charge this is what kind of guys you're going to be dealing with at this business I laid down the $200 they put the paperwork in and they came back and he told me that the part was going to be $30 and he only charged me $30 cuz they only looked at the bike for 15 minutes he totally could have charged me the whole hour but they didn't this is what kind of character this business has I would definitely recommend them to anybody they're honest and they do great work
Do not buy any KTM
I own a 2020 KTM 1290 Superduke R. Machine has 20k miles. (US) it’s currently at a KTM dealer and it needs an engine. KTM only last 4 years and 20k. That’s complete garbage. This bike has been maintained at the dealer its entire life cycle. The dealer said I was in lucky which is Is something you do not say to the owner of a $25000 street bike that’s suppose to be a high performing machine. KTM has been zero help, the dealer has been zero help. I want answers. I want to know why a “high performance” machine needs an engine when the other 8 motorcycles I own have never needed anything. My CBR has 58k miles on it. Brakes, batteries tires and oil changes. This KTM has cost me thousands of dollar and my labor hours to repair certain issues. Do not waste your money. Stick with Japanese motorcycles. Euro bikes are garage. KTM and the dealer have yet to see what’s to come.
KTM do not understand warranty or the…
KTM do not understand warranty or the importance of looking after customers. Very poor attitude and they blame the customer for their poor quality and shot bikes. Cams should not be worn out at 4000 miles on a 4 year old bike and they wont do anything about it. Hasten to say that it will be sold for a better quality bike. Arrogant bas##rds and will never buy a KTM or any from their group companies.
Wouldn't cover warranty parts
I brought two brand new KTM bikes and both of the kickstands broke within a few days of each other. They would not cover them on warranty. They are cheap socialist useless pig headed stubborn arrogant etc etc etc
Poor quality, no support (even during warranty period) and no customer respect after sales
Mechanical problems can happen, this I can understand and tolerate. What I cannot tolerate is the lack of respect.
I bought a new bike from Germany a year and so ago and had an issue with it since day one. After an year with constant repairs and "tweaks" (4 times in service for the same issue) the bike is still not fixed. I contacted the dealer from which I bought the bike and requested support ( a new bike or at least extended warranty at that point) and the reply was "dont worry it will be fixed". After this message he no longer answered my messages or calls. I then tried to contact Ktm directly and kindly asked for a new bike ( I was willing even to pay a difference) considering they didn't had a fix for the issue (nor an estimated repair date) and the bike had very low milage at that time but they didnt bother to respond even after multiple attempts.
I'm now stuck with bike that cost almost 20k euro (not taken into account the aftermarked accesories) with less than a year of warranty, which was dissasebled more times than I can remember and with bad service history that prevents anyone from buying it. I'm sure we could have reached a middle ground if KTM bother to respond but they don't seem to care, the sale was already done, why should they?
I'm trully dissapointed, KTM was my favorite brand but I don't see me buying any bike from them again or recommend them after this hell of an experience.
It's a shame, KTM could have had a customer for life (as I ussually buy the latest stuff once every 2-3 years) but they preffered to don't give a damn.
I gave two stars as their bike are really fun to ride if you are lucky enough to get a fully functional one.

I recently part ex’d my old bike for new ktm super adventure s at M&p Swansea/ktm dealer
I have to say Keith in sales made it so easy and straight forward when other ktm dealers or bike dealers didn’t want to know
I was part exchanging a gsxs 1000 on a twenty plate in mint condition as you can imagine
so it wasn’t like some old dog
Keith has been nothing but helpful
And the bike is a dream
Yes all bikes got their down falls but hopefully they want land on my doorstep
Entire engine corroded on 2022 690 enduro. KTM refusing to repair or replace.
Fiance brought a brand new KTM 690 enduro last year (2022) from Chester KTM. He noticed extensive corrosion and took it back right away. The entire engine has corroded rendering it unusable and unsafe. KTM are trying to suggest that this is due to improper care of the vehicle and are refusing to repair or replace. It has been garaged and cared for with the manufacturer guidelines and clearly has a significant manufacturing issue. We WILL be taking legal action if this is not resolved.
KTM doesn't honor anything poor customer service
i purchased a 2022 KTM RC390. Reading all the info about the bike it was the only 400 class motorcycle with technology TFT. Every listing says the RC390 will get the BLUETOOTH option and work with KTM my Ride for 2022. My bike was a sept build and this was the only reason i purchased it over other brands. After buying the bike the dealer sales person was trying to help me get the bluetooth option to work so they told me to download the KTM app enter my vin and then connect to the bike. I did download the app purchased the GPS function from app to find out the bike doesn't have bluetooth and even the dealer was not aware the features was not installed. After reaching out to KTM i was told there was a shortage of chips so the bike did not have it. Well they should have updated all the info online to tell customers that or even send out memos to dealers. So now i bought a bike thinking it would have tech pack and its just a regular TFT. If i would have known this it would have been a deal breaker for me purchasing the bike. KTM will not honor what they published even though they could easily have dealers warranty the TFT and replace them now since im sure there is no shortage of chips.
