Ripped off by Michael Hill…

Bought earrings for my wife at Blenheim MHJ. After a few months they started to tarnish. We took them back and they said they were not the same ones as they don’t sell plated gold. They were 100% the ones I had purchased as she has no other like them and had been wearing them continuously since purchase. Basically we have just been ripped off and any queries about follow up have been ignored. Avoid these scammers.

Care Plans and warranties aren't Real

Unethical company.

Hubby purchased a diamond and sapphire ring along with care plan fornpeace of mind. Neither the care plan pamphlet nor the sales person indicated that th we re was a requirement for inspection every six months with sign off.

Have since lost a sapphire and a diamond from said ring and had to pay out of pocket for both. I do notntreat my jewelry rough, I remove them for all physical activity, gardening, baking, etc. I was bringing it to the store for cleaning on a regular basis.

Company has been giving us the runaround both at the local level and at the head quarters level (New Zealand Company) despite giving us a sense of hope that they were going to make the situation right.

Stay away from Michael Hill. Their product quality is questionable and their customer service is non-existent.

Edit in response to their comment : Michael Hill provided zero documentation outlining the diamond warranty. There is a distinct difference between "unable" to provide service and "refused" to provide service based on a diamond warranty that was neither explained nor documentation provided.

Update July 11th 2026: The company continues to pretend they are doing their best by "escalating." I've provided all the proof requested from Michael Hill's parent company, Bevilles, in Australia. That's right - if you buy from Michael Hill in Canada, you will need to deal with Australia to try and get any kind of resolution. The lack of customer service is honestly unbelievable. after numerous exchanges the customer rep kept referring to earrings when I have been messaging and providing documentation and communication about a ring. Stay away from this company.

We wanted to outline the difference for you between a Professional Careplan and the Michael Hill Diamond Warranty, to clarify some of the obligations surrounding the 6 month inspection requirements for you.

Your Professional Careplan is the service plan that you purchase to assist with repairs and/or maintenance on your rings. This is an additional charge and covers a variety of services including resizing, rhodium plating, and more.

Your Michael Hill Diamond Warranty is the complimentary warranty we offer for some of our selected diamond products, to protect your diamonds for a lifetime. This protects your diamonds specifically as long as the inspections are done every 6 months. Even if you were to void your diamond warranty with inspections not being complete, in theory, your careplan would still be valid, if the damage is able to be applied beneath the coverage.

We're so sorry to hear that we could not replace this under warranty for you.

After being a customer of Michael Hill…

After being a customer of Michael Hill for many years and always experiencing exceptional customer service, which made me feel they valued and treated their custimers as priority, I rhought very highly of the company. Sadly my recent experience at one store, when having a romg re-sized has left me speechless in the decline in customer service and their lack of care for customer or their product and workmanship. My ring came back damaged and the metal was sharp, and the size was not correct. The lack of care or willingness to acknowledge or fix the problem is disappointing, and even more so was their lack of care for their customers. In the past their staff always went above and beyond to leave me with a happy enjoyable experience. But this store and this repair process has left me very upset and they damaged my ring. I would not recommend that store, amd possibly not Michael Hill brand, to anyone any more after my experience. And it wasnt on one occasion, it was repeated.

We have reached out to Management who have confirmed that whilst the ring was resized to the size you originally requested, they have taken your concerns into consideration and have arranged for another resize for you to the half size you have indicated will be a better fit. They have also advised the roughness of the basket has been raised to the jeweller too - though this should have been unaffected by the resize, they will have this urgently fixed.

Service non existent

Took my ring in for its 6 month check which you have to do otherwise the warranty is useless.
Only one staff member serving 3 customers waiting.
They usually offer a clean and polish with a smile, but this time no. Left very disappointed especially after the long wait.
Wish I didn’t have to go back.

Poor quality

Bought a titanium ring with diamonds. Not even a year two of the diamonds fallen. When I called the store they said they can’t do anything about it. I regret of purchasing at Michael Hill. They have nice designs but the quality is extremely poor. Don’t waste your money.

I recently purchased a $4000 ring

I recently purchased a $4000 ring - I was told there was nothing they could do on the price and yet 72hours later the ring was advertised $544 cheaper. When I queried this they said they was nothing they could do. Whilst my time in store was great their lack of ethics is appalling. For someone who spends a lot on jewels I certainly wont be going back - and no my feedback is not important to you and neither is my business - nice job michael hill!

Life Time Warranty is a joke
My wedding band ended up cracking at the bottom of the ring due to weight gain and weight loss between my pregnancies. The St.Catharines Ontario Canada store called my husband to tell him that we would have to cover half the cost of the ring being fixed. We owe 567 dollars, my husband said he couldnt understand why we owe because we have life time warranty. The Manager said we have exhausted the "cost" of the ring because they base the value price what the ring is at in that condition. So now i only have coverage for diamond fixings and my cleanings. I am in the process of losing more weight so now i will have to pay out of pocket for it to be resized? how does that make sense. This is poor service on Michael Hill you should be telling people when they buy a ring that you get exhausted after so much. What a complete and utter joke, We are never spending a dime back at Michael Hill. Life Time Warranty is an absolute joke

I would sincerely like to thank Micheal hills store in Gateways Western Australia for there imprecible service
I found the staff very friendly and helpful and there’s to many retail stores that can’t be bothered with great service
The store was well presented clean and lastly the staff where well presented
One lady I think her name was Kirsty Hope I’ve spelt that right was over and above and very well presented
Will definitely go back in
I didn’t purchase today I just window shopped but certainly got my eye on a couple of things

I bought a pair of earrings for my…

I bought a pair of earrings for my daughter (paid full price). When my daughter saw them she said she liked them but her friend had bought her the exact same a year earlier. So I went back to exchange them (within 3 hrs of purchase) but was told I couldn’t return earrings. I was NOT told this before I bought them. Apparently because it’s printed on the receipt that this is good enough!!!! Not to mention the rude attitude when I questioned this!!! Really disappointing!!

At Michael Hill, we want our customers to have confidence that when buying earrings with us, they are wearing an item that has never been through another customer's piercing. As such, our earrings have been non-refundable or exchangeable for several years now. We can certainly appreciate that sometimes this can be lost in the excitement of the purchase, though our staff are very well trained on the policy as it has been around for so long - this is why we do also include it on every pair of earrings online for online customers, and on the receipts for instore customers.

We apologise to hear that you were disappointed with the service when discussing the policy with the store, and that we were not able to resolve this for you!

I had a very disappointing experience…

I had a very disappointing experience with Michael Hill.

I purchased a chain after clearly explaining I wanted something suitable for everyday wear. While the staff member was friendly, the product itself turned out to be very poor quality. After only a couple of months of careful use, it broke, which is unacceptable given the price.

When I raised this, I felt the response from customer care was dismissive and unhelpful. Instead of taking responsibility, they refused to offer a return or exchange.

I spent a significant amount of money expecting a durable, everyday piece and instead ended up with something fragile and unreliable. Overall, a frustrating experience and not what I expected.

i am writing to express my frustration…

i am writing to express my frustration and disappointment with the treatment I received at your store ( yorkdale store , on )regarding a recent purchase.
On March 19, I purchased a 10K Figaro chain necklace valued at $420 . The item was never worn, as the recipient did not like it. Additionally, I noticed from the very beginning that the chain appeared unusually dull, which raised concerns about its quality.
When I returned to the store to request a refund, I was met with outright refusal and an unacceptable level of argument from your salesperson. Despite the necklace being completely unworn, I was repeatedly told—based on a cursory inspection with a loupe—that it had been used. This accusation is both incorrect and insulting.
What is most concerning is the apparent lack of trust your staff places in customers. Instead of addressing a legitimate concern about a high-value product, I was dismissed and spoken to in a confrontational manner. This is not the level of service anyone should expect, especially when spending hundreds of dollars.
This was my first purchase from your brand, and I had expected a much higher standard of service given your reputation. Frankly, I am extremely disappointed. I never imagined that a well-known company like yours would provide such poor customer service. If this issue is not resolved in a fair and positive manner, I will not only refrain from making future purchases, but I will also discourage others from buying from your stores.
Had this been a low-cost item, I would not have pursued a return. However, for a $420 purchase, I expect professionalism, fairness, and respect—not baseless accusations and refusal to assist.
I am requesting that this matter be reviewed seriously and that a proper resolution be provided, including reconsideration of my refund request. If this issue is not addressed appropriately, I will be left with no choice but to escalate the matter further.

Worst quality ring I have ever seen

Worst quality ring I have ever seen. I bought a year ago, the pearl has already taken off twice. They repaired it once now I need to get it repaired again. I've had $10 rings that were better quality. Can't believe they sell these for hundreds of dollars. Absolute rip-off.

NEVER AGAIN... go somewhere else and spend the money

I will never EVER purchase anything from these guys again.

I bought my wedding band in February and explicitly let the associate know, it's a destination wedding we leave first week of April, first thing in the morning. We were reassured the ring would be in store by March.

Multiple calls to the store and nothing has been done. Our associate called and told us oh they forget to put it in the shipment so either Wednesday or a holiday on the Friday.

The only reason we bought the ring was because it was a great deal, but the aggravation it's caused was definitely not worth it. We should have just spent the money elsewhere at a private jeweller.

The associate should have flat out said it won't be ready until after your departure date, at which time we would have either picked something else or gone elsewhere.

So it's not to the point where I have a wedding with no band and they can't even offer me a solution. Never again will I shop it here.

Purchased a bracelet in Sydney at…

Purchased a bracelet in Sydney at Christmas, we live in NZ. Only wore it once and the clasp failed. Went to Queensgate Lower Hutt store to have the clasp fixed and a safety chain put on it and was told because it was purchased in Aussie the warranty was not applicable in NZ??? Shocking service , rude staff, no communication, talking over me both the staff member and the store manager, even coughing on the phone when talking to me, just no manners, still waiting to get my bracelet back, very accusatory when speaking to me, unhelpful as....never will I buy anything from them again! Avoid!!!

Their quality is very bad

Their quality is very bad. I went every 6 month to get my rings checked and sent out for cleaning and yet 4 times back to back I had a stone fall out within 1 month of having the ring back. This was a wedding set I stopped wearing it because of how often they would fall out and only wore at large functions and yet it would fall out. Then long story short they canceled my diamond warranty and refuse to reinstate it although they admit they gave me no choice or easy way of continuing to service it every 6 months. They will do anything to say the ring is dirty and "worn" and all these other very untrue things just not to upkeep warranty. Their customer service is really poor, almost every time we went to a store we had issues to get the rings sent out. So im now at the point where they wont replace the diamonds, and I'm 100% not paying for a diamond replacement knowing the last time a diamond fell out within a month of repair and being worn maybe a max 5 times for less then 24 hour each.

I am now wedding ring -less.

If you want a good quality ring, easy customer service with folks who know what they are doing and dont give you a hassle this is not the place.
