THE WORST EVER

THE WORST EVER, DAMAGED MY VEHICLE INSTALLING A BATTERY! I WENT TO PEP BOYS TO GET A BATTERY INSTALLED AND WHEN I PICKED UP MY VEHICLE THE SUN ROOF NO LONGER WORKED, NOR MY SUN SHADE, I TOOK IT BACK AND THEY WOULD NOT EVEN LOOK AT THEIR OWN WORK.
I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THEIR CLAIMS DEPARTMENT AND THEY WERE COMMUNICATING WITH ME REGARDING MY CLAIM, NOW THEY ARE TRYING TO AVOID ME, TODAY MY ATTORNEY IS FILING A SMALL CLAIMS CASE AGAINST PEP BOYS IN AMOUNT OF $6000 TO FIX MY VEHICLE!
TAKE MY WORD EVERYONE, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH PEP BOYS, THEY WILL DAMAGE YOUR VEHILE AND TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT AT ALL, AND THEN JUST GIVE YOU THE RUNAROUND IN THE CLAIMS DEPARTMENT…
THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER…

Go somewhere else

always have to wait 3-5 HOURS for oil change. Last visit was my last time. 4 new tires put on and discovered they ripped part of the beads of the tire when applying, leading to a flat tire:( nothing could be done. Never had a good experience, save yourself the annoyance!

Service manager Jacob:
8/14/2026 I had service done to my 2008 Lincoln Navigator. I had the main heater hose and smaller heater hose replaced. Parts and labor close to $3000. Before the work was completed I specifically reminded the service manager Jacob that my vehicle requires Motorcraft Gold Premium Concentrate. 3 gallons of Motorcraft Gold, and 3 gallon of distilled water. It's never recommended to use tap water because of the minerals, overtime minerals will clog the radiator. Jacob told me he put green coolant to test the leak before the repairs. I told Jacob that's cross contamination mixing green with gold coolant. When the repairs were done I pick up my vehicle on 8/14/2026 then over the weekend I happen to check my coolant reservoir. It was top off with green coolant, that was all you could see in the reservoir. The following Monday, I called Jacob, and requested he corrected his mistake. He didn't see the harm he done, the next day 8/18/2026 I returned my vehicle to have the contaminated coolant flushed out. After complaining to corporate about Jacob's mistake and the inconvenience using Lyft. Corporate told me that I would be reimbursed for the out of pocket expenses using Lyft. It took them 3 days to flush my coolant, they told me my truck was ready around noon. I informed them I'll pick it up after work. Around 8:30 pm I arrived at Pepboys, and noticed I didn't see my truck. The Lyft driver took a call for another rider and I was left stranded after seeing they locked my truck back in their own shop. I had to wait on another Lyft ride to get home. The following morning before work I took another Lyft to picked up my vehicle. I never received reimbursement for my inconvenience using Lyft. 1-800-737-2697 is only a call center. All of the complaints I made about Jacob there were no escalation. They forwarded all of my complaints to the main one I was complaining about Jacob. Then the audacity of Jacob confronting me about the complaints I made of him just very unprofessional.

I took my car a month ago to see why my air conditioner went out in my car. Was told my air compressor was bad. They said they replaced it. A month later air out again. Took it back and said it was the same problem, said sometimes after market parts sometimes don’t last. You put the after part in and I paid you enough to for the original parts. And they really thought I was going to give them some more money.

Poor Organization, Long Delays, and Zero Accountability

My experience with this shop in Liverpool NY was a failure from the moment my order arrived, ending in a damaged tire and a completely denied claim.

I ordered four Bridgestone tires through TireRack for installation here. When I called to confirm delivery two tires were missing, Service Manager John was short with me, dismissively telling me to take it up with TireRack. After wasting time with the very nice people at TireRack customer service—who noted the two tires were dropped at the adjacent parts store—PepBoys called back to say, "Never mind, they're right here." When I arrived, the installation of four tires plus a simple patch took over two hours. For comparison, the independent shop later demounted, inspected, remounted, and processed paperwork for a tire in under 15 minutes.

Less than a week later, one tire went flat down to the rim during the workday. An independent shop inspected the wheel and confirmed the tire bead was torn during the initial mounting process. The inspecting shop charged nothing for the diagnosis and did not sell me the replacement tire, meaning they had zero financial incentive to fabricate the issue.

When I submitted a damage claim, John immediately argued over the phone before reviewing the tire or hearing the facts. Unsurprisingly, the internal claim was denied.

From lost inventory and 2-hour wait times to damaged equipment and hostile management, this experience was frustrating at every step. Any initial savings were wiped out by the cost of replacing a brand-new tire ruined on their machine. Take your vehicle elsewhere.

I took my car in for an oil change and…

I took my car in for an oil change and new brake pads. Within a few days I noticed that my car was driving roughly and my oil light came on. I checked the dipstick and it was dry. I put oil in the car and called Pep Boys 1-800 number. The store answered the call. I told them that I was trying to call customer service to report a problem. He told me I could tell him because the 1-800 number does not know what they're talking about. I told them my oil stick was dry and this has never happened before after an oil change. I made an appointment to take the car back to them. I live 60 miles away and work full time so I can only come in on Saturdays. I took the car back in and waited nearly two hours for my car to be looked at. They told me that my car had an oil leak and that's why the oil was low. I told them the car does not have an oil leak and there was no oil on my garage floor, driveway or anywhere else. They told me it's a "very scant" leak and I wasn't seeing any oil on the ground or anywhere under the hood because "it blows off as you're driving." Now, I'm a woman but I'm no a fool. My car takes about 5.0 quarts of oil. There is no way that my car leaked out 5.0 quarts of oil in the matter of a couple of days via a "scant" oil leak under the hood while driving. Especially since I drive my car less than 10 miles a day during the week due to my work schedule. I then asked them why the car was driving so roughly when it wasn't before. I told them that there was suddenly a check engine light that came on when oil light came on and my car was having a hard time starting all of a sudden. They told me to take the gas cap off and "give it a little gas" when trying to start the car. I was told that they saw the codes when they filled the oil (again) but they didn't write them down. I asked them for a print out. They told me they didn't remember. The last time I was there they were acting very friendly. This time they were closed lip and standoffish. They then told me they are not mechanics and told me to take my car to the dealership. I kept pushing them to tell me what the codes they saw said. They told me they didn't remember and that they didn't write it down. When I asked again why my car was driving differently they wouldn't look me in the eye and said we don't know and I should go to the dealership "because it could be the timing chain or something." This stuck me as very odd. My car as driving perfectly before I brought it to them. I only needed an oil change and front brakes. Now all of a sudden, immediately after they worked on it the car is driving roughly, has a dry oil stick and they "are not mechanics." I need to now go to the dealership. A day or so later I get a survey via email. I reported the issue in the survey and selected the option to be contacted about my issue. Their home office or regional manager never called me. I've had the car diagnosed and learned that the timing chain has been "stretched." I also was told that it sounds like the oil change was not done properly and that the timing chain may have been damaged as part of the oil change. They broke my car and then tried to pawn me off on the dealership. I've also had to replace the oil separator on my car. I was asked if I heard a high pitch whistle coming from the hood. I did. At Pep Boys. While my car was in the bay my sister and I heard a loud whistle and wondered what it was. I don't know what these two were doing to my car but they've destroyed it and have cost me thousands in repair estimates and bills. There is no way in the world it is a coincidence all of these connected systems went bad all at once directly after Pep Boys did my oil change. If you value your vehicle, please stay away from these people. Do not let them do anything except sell you tires. Both times I was there other customers were there because there repairs were not done correctly. Stay away from these people. They've destroyed my car.

EMIL IS COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL. Today i left the shop in tears because the manager took his frustration with the company I work for and his busy backed up shop out on me. All i asked was for him to simply type in the description of the visit what they had told me on the phone so that i could have the paperwork for my job and my records. He immediately stated that by me asking him to do this that i was asking him for a work order. He made it very obvious that he did not want to but sat down to type it up anyways. I thought that was the end of that and that i could leave however What he typed and printed out in the description was incorrect, inaccurate and did not include any of what I was told on the phone. I simply asked him to please type it again but with the information that I was given on the phone in reguards to the visit and that way I could leave worth the paperwork to bring with me when i do exactly as they suggested by taking my car to the dealership. He proceeded to raise his voice at me, his body language and tone became very angry and he kept violently pushing the computer screen at me. In addition to his hostile behavior he kept telling me over and over that there is nothing to do in my car and that there wasn't anything more they could do for me. I assured him repeatedly that I understood that and that i was not asking him to do anything further but to please just make sure that the description on the paperwork reflects what they were telling me so that i could give the paperwork to my job and bring it with me to the dealership or another shop. He proceeded to intentionally humiliate me by grunting and rubbing his face with his hands and telling me that I was being difficult and making problems for him while pointing to the line of people behind me and commenting how I was holding up the line and making them wait. I asked him to please calm down and even said sir as frustrated as your feeling right now please understand that I'm feeling frustrated as well and then I explained to him that regardless of how i was feeling I'm not yelling at him or being hostile towards him or slamming anything at him or in his direction and that I shouldn't be being treated this way. I asked him to please just put in the description what I was told on the phone so that I could have that paper and I'll be on my way. He kept pushing back to a point that I had to message management of my company that I was currently being yelled at and that I needed help from management. Finally while my company was on the phone with me he printed the paper out with additional information on the description but just added to his original incorrect statement and I said thank you and took the paper and started to leave, He then tried to snatch the original paper he printed and gave to me away from me and i held the paper back and i said no I'm taking this too and then he told me very loudly in front of everyone to never come back and of course i responded be saying that I didn't plan on it. It was very obvious that he tried to snatch the original paper so that I wouldn't have tangible proof to support the unprofessionalism i had experienced here today however I did see people holding up their phones and it felt like we were very obviously being recorded so honestly I hope that interaction gets seen by the right people as well as pep boys and that the appropriate action is taken. Not only did they humiliate and barate me to tears when all I asked for was simply the description on my paperwork to reflect what I was being told WHICH EVERY CUSTOMER THAT BRINGS THEIR CAR AND LEAVES THEIR KEYS FOR A SERVICE is entitled to but they publicly spoke poorly of the company I work for with claims that I've been assured were false. If this is a reflection of the way that pep boys does Buisiness than I'll make sure that I am always an advocate against people bringing their money and cars here and that all women should record their interactions here for their protection if they do chose to come here because the men in this shop are incredibly aggressive. (I have photos and audio files to back my experience her but there is no option to add attachments to this review) also a ton more happened this day but the information included here so far are just the most important parts.

I would not recommend this Pep Boys…

I would not recommend this Pep Boys location based on my experience. I brought my car in for repairs and was already dealing with a vehicle that has high mileage, so I expected the work to be done carefully and professionally. Instead, I have serious concerns about both the quality of the repairs and the documentation I was given. The mileage was recorded incorrectly on my paperwork, which affected my warranty situation. I also have concerns that work I paid for was either not completed properly or not completed at all. After the repair, my car is now leaking significantly more oil than it was before it was brought in. I paid a substantial amount of money expecting professional automotive work, and instead I have been left with additional problems and questions about what was actually done to my vehicle. I am extremely disappointed with the experience and am currently looking into my options regarding the repairs and documentation.

If I could leave zero stars I would. After leaving a negative review for pep boys I was contacted by a rep
From California. He promised a full refund, this was over 2 weeks. Of course NO check arrived and the rep no longer communicates with me. Stay far away from pep boys, worst mechanics, worst management and apparently lousy resolution dept.

Don’t bother reaching out to pep boys, it’ll go nowhere. How this company remains in business is a mystery.

Check received. Ty

The will up charge you!

On July 25, 2026 We went to the Pep Boys on Savannah Hwy in West Ashley, Charleston for a scheduled appointment to get our a/c checked out. Upon arrival we explained to the assistant manager that our a/c on our 2019 Nissan Altima started blowing hot air. We requested it to be checked, diagnose the problem and contact us prior to repair with the estimated cost for repair. Several hours later, I was contacted by Pep Boys and she stated our vehicle is ready for pick up. I explained to her that I was not contacted prior to the repairs being done as requested. She explained the mechanic recharged and refilled my unit with freeon. She stated this service came with a 1year or 12,000 mile guarantee. The cost was $585! Two weeks later my vehicle is back to blowing hot air. We returned it and they stated they would WAIVE the diagnostic fee, well gee thanks! The mechanic checked the vehicle and I was given an estimate of over $3000 to replace the a/c compressor, condenser and expansion valve but they would WAIVE the refrigerant refilling. A different manager told us the previous manager at Pep Boys we spoke to was incorrect on the warranty and they only guaranteed the a/c refill for 30 days. We took our vehicle and will never ever go to Pep Boys or refer them anyone else. Horrible way of doing business!

I had my car at pep boys for suspension problems which they did the $35 diagnostics test on the front end. The results were I needed front lower control arms and both front cv axles which was quoted at $2,200! I gave the go ahead and I had to walk back from my apartment to pick up! The next day I drove to work and a dentist appointment and back to my apartment. Later I left to go visit my son & my car broke down in the apartment parking lot, I called pep boys and said I had to have it towed, the AAA tow driver “Randal” was a Godsend. He tried several ways to load my car onto his flat back with the bolt missing from the passenger side ball joint! We later found the bolt in the apartment parking lot! The AAA driver dropped me off at my apartment! I had to walk back to pep boys the next morning to pick up my car (even though they did a test drive they didn’t think to pick me up) I live in Florida! There was no charge but they also never offered to pay for towing or anything thing else to make it right! Not a great experience!

Women BEWARE of Pep Boys Hamden, CT

Women beware of Pep Boys Hamden.
I brought my 2008 Buick Enclave in for emissions and a simple oil change. I waited about 4 hours. Less than 2 weeks later, the “Change Engine Oil Soon” light came on, and we had to buy and add oil ourselves just to get the oil level right.
The car later started shaking, overheating, and showing warning lights. Monro checked it and said there was no engine oil leak, despite Pep Boys claiming one. Monro also found transmission-related issues and signs consistent with improper transmission-fluid interference and unauthorized transmission work/tampering.
Monro was transparent, showed us the codes, explained what they saw, and even recommended a real transmission specialist instead of trying to profit from the repair themselves. That is what honest service looks like.
Pep Boys manager Bert’s explanations kept changing, his own scanner showed transmission codes, and he concluded the car was no longer safe to drive while still claiming Pep Boys did nothing wrong. His treatment of me felt dismissive, misogynistic, and targeted.
My warning to women: go somewhere else. Get a second opinion. Do not let Pep Boys pressure you into paying for diagnostics after a problem appears right after their service.
Pep Boys Kills Cars. That is how this experience feels to me.
A legal notice is being sent demanding preservation of all camera footage, service records, diagnostic records, communications, and evidence. I will update my reviews if Pep Boys makes this right.
I am still awaiting a response from their claims department, specifically manager Ashley Montgomery. I have been told I would receive an update and as of today, 8/12/26 still no response.

Systematic Communication Failure Across All Levels

Cerritos CA Location
Edit (in response to Ari):

Ari, thank you for the response. However, your message reflects the same pattern I’ve already experienced across every level of Pep Boys’ communication: acknowledgment without meaningful action. The issues I described were not limited to a lack of updates — they involved multiple follow‑ups, repeated assurances that Field Leadership would contact me, and no outreach from leadership at any point.

Your request that I send yet another message to customersupport simply directs me back into the same failed communication channel I have already used five times without resolution. Pep Boys does not need a sixth follow‑up from me to “continue looking into this matter.” The company can review the case internally and take appropriate action without requiring additional outreach from the customer.

My review accurately reflects the full scope of the communication breakdown, and the concerns remain unresolved.

Original: The repair itself was completed correctly, but the communication at the store and afterward was extremely poor. The store closed for the day without notifying me, the service tracker wasn’t updated until the next morning, and the part arrived late with no communication. I had to initiate every update myself. These store‑level issues were the start of a much larger communication problem.

After the service, I received the standard internal survey that is automatically sent after a visit. I completed it honestly, but this was separate from my official complaint to corporate. The survey did not address the communication issues I raised, nor did it trigger any corrective action.

When I contacted corporate directly, I made multiple follow‑ups and was told several times that Field Leadership would contact me. No one ever did. My requests for escalation to Executive Customer Relations or Corporate Operations Leadership were ignored, and I continued receiving template responses that did not address the communication failures.

Eventually, I received a call from the store, but at that point the issue had escalated far beyond what the store could address. The escalation chain failed at every level: store, Customer Relations, Field Leadership, and Operations oversight. The standard survey captured my feedback, but the official complaint process showed no accountability or follow‑through.

After five follow‑ups and no meaningful communication, it’s clear the issue is not the repair itself but the complete breakdown in accountability and communication. This experience warranted a 1‑star rating.

I don’t even know where to begin with…

I don’t even know where to begin with these crooks. I waited for over two hours for a warranty repair, only to be told to come back a few days later after no one even touched my car. Then I came back and spent five hours to be told it’s not going to be repaired. Opened a case with their corporate office who never followed up with me after waiting for days. They claim they called me and I hung up on them. I’m trying to get them to fix my car so why would I hang up on them? Then I spoke to a manager who said he would get me a refund, but never did and won’t contact me. So filing a complaint with NJ Division of Consumer Affairs and if that doesn’t help will file a small claims case. They think I will go away, but I won’t.

⭐☆☆☆☆ 1-Star Review

If I could give zero stars, I would.

My experience with Pep Boys Store #702 on E. Tropicana in Las Vegas was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had.

I brought my 2014 Chevrolet Impala Hybrid in for an oil leak and paid $765.43 to have the problem repaired. Pep Boys assured me the repair was complete. The moment I picked up my car and pressed the accelerator, it made a loud engine noise it had never made before. My hybrid has always run quietly, and I knew immediately something was seriously wrong. I never even left the parking lot before going back inside.

Instead of taking responsibility, the technician, Patrick, claimed the noise was there before I brought the car in. That is simply false. Then the store manager, Rafael, dismissed my concerns because there were no warning lights on the dashboard, as if that somehow meant nothing could be wrong. Any experienced mechanic should know that not every mechanical problem immediately triggers a warning light.

Pep Boys kept my car for five more days, claiming an inspector would look at it. During that time, no one bothered to keep me informed. I had to repeatedly call the store just to get updates. First I was told the inspector hadn't arrived, then days later I was told the inspection had been completed and nothing was wrong.

When I asked for a copy of the inspector's report, Assistant Manager Scott told me there wasn't one. No documentation. No report. I was left questioning whether an inspection had actually taken place.

To make matters worse, after five days my car was returned to me with the oil leak still there, the engine still making the loud noise, and now the Check Engine light was on. I paid for a repair that was not properly completed, and my vehicle came back in worse condition than when I dropped it off.

Because Pep Boys kept my vehicle for so long, I had to rent a car from Enterprise, costing me an additional $780.00 out of my own pocket. Between the failed repair and the rental expenses, I am out more than $1,545, and my vehicle is still not fixed.

I filed a formal complaint with Pep Boys Corporate (Case #335504) and was informed that my case had been assigned to Field Manager Randy Hodges. To date, I have not received a single phone call, email, or any follow-up from Mr. Hodges regarding my complaint. It is extremely disappointing that after spending this much money and going through weeks of frustration, no one in management has taken the time to contact me or attempt to make this situation right.

The lack of professionalism, accountability, communication, and customer service at this location is unacceptable. Instead of admitting mistakes and fixing the problem, they dismissed my concerns, failed to provide documentation, and returned my vehicle without resolving the issues.

I trusted Pep Boys to repair my vehicle, but instead I was left with a larger repair bill, a rental car expense, and a vehicle that is in worse condition than when I brought it in. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this location to anyone. There are plenty of repair shops in Las Vegas that value their customers and stand behind their work. Unfortunately, Pep Boys Store #702 has shown me the exact opposite.

Untrustworthy establishment

I brought my vehicle to Pep Boys because it was experiencing a significant shaking issue. I specifically requested that the vehicle be thoroughly inspected and test driven to accurately determine the cause of the problem.

Based on your diagnosis, of control arm replacement and front tire and front rims. I authorized repairs totaling $2,291.62. After these repairs were completed, the original shaking issue remained. Your technicians then informed me that the tie rods were the cause and replaced them at no additional cost. When that failed to resolve the issue, they said it was my back rims causing shaking of vehicle, that failed to resolve issue as well. I was then told that the vehicle required a rack and pinion replacement, which would have resulted in thousands of dollars in additional repairs. They said they will order parts and have yet to contact me.

Because I had lost confidence in the diagnosis and lack of customer service. I sought a second opinion from another repair facility. The second mechanic immediately identified the actual cause of the problem: both rear brake calipers were seized, requiring replacement of the rear brake calipers, rotors, brake pads, and brake hoses. After these repairs were completed, the shaking issue was completely resolved.

It is evident that the repairs performed by Pep Boys did not address the reason my vehicle was brought in for service. Had I relied on your recommendation, I would have unnecessarily paid for an expensive rack and pinion replacement while the actual problem remained unresolved.

Additionally, after reviewing my paperwork, I discovered that the invoice provided to me contains another customer's name and address instead of my own. This represents a serious mishandling of customer records and raises concerns regarding your recordkeeping and customer privacy practices.

ZERO stars ... Manager - deceptive, rude

I wish I had the ability to leave a review with ZERO stars. Today was the first time I experienced horrible customer service at the PepBoys Cerritos (South Street) location. My family has patronized this establishment for at least 15+ years; personal and company issued vehicles. Today, Abraham Rios (claims he’s the only location manager), tried to steal $200 from my family by amending the original quoted service price for an alternator repair. When I had the vehicle towed to the facility by AAA I shared with Abraham that the vehicle was being towed and I needed an alternator - he’s initial response was are you sure, you may need a battery. My response was, no I need an alternator. Abraham twisted his face and said you may need a battery, how do you know you need an alternator. I paused thinking I just shared the vehicle is being towed and I only need an alternator - I verbalized again I don’t need a battery, just the alternator. Abraham says who told you that AAA. I responded, yes - two (2) AAA techs gave me the same diagnosis. Abraham stated to me we can check the battery with our diagnostic to make sure it's not the battery - that would be $15.99. I repeated back $15.99. Abraham said yes. I immediately said I do not need that, just the alternator. Abraham began typing again - he finally gave me the quote of $1,074 for the alternator - parts and labor. I repeated $1,074 - Abraham said yes $1,074. I said let me call my husband - so I stepped away, called my husband, and shared the quote. I returned to the counter and told Abraham my husband said no. I left the facility and returned to work. I returned back to the PepBoys, approached Abraham and shared I talked to my husband and he said go away with the service. When I retrieved the vehicle Abraham charged me $1,275 (I was so upset that it may have been $1,274 - I’ll keep saying $1,275 for the sake of conveying the story). I questioned what happened to the $1,074 - his response was it was always $1,275. I challenged the facts because I would have quoted my husband $1,275, not $1,074 (I definitely know it was $1,074 because Kia Cerritos quoted me $1402.80 labor, parts, warranty). After arguing the point, Abraham then tells me fine I’ll give you a discount - he immediately typed on his computer and the new price reflected $1,146.82. I told Abraham (repeatedly) no, put the price back to $1,275 - if he’s standing on that was always the original quote then put it back so I can swipe my card and I'll deal with corporate. Abraham refused to change the final invoice back to $1,275 - I paid the $1,146.80 and left the location.
