Chair of my dreams
I've been wanting an Eames Lounge Chair since the first time I saw one in person 18 years ago. I'm finally at a place in life where I can afford one, but when it came down to it, I just didn't want to spend $5K+ for the Herman Miller version. I'd done my research and there seemed to be a consensus that Rove Concepts makes the best reproduction in terms of fidelity to the original design, comfort, and longevity. Since those are the things that matter to me--not the "status" of a label--I went with the Rove version, in Rosewood Palisander Veneer with Modena Eggshell Leather. The purchasing experience was excellent. Ran into an issue with my credit card (bank blocked the purchase because the company is in Canada), but Rove was on top of it and assisted with getting that straightened out. The option I wanted was in stock, so I received the chair only 14 days after my purchase--very snugly and securely packed. I carefully inspected the chair and ottoman and found the quality of the craftsmanship to be excellent--every inch of it. As others have written, the chair is initially a little stiff to sit in, but I am not the least bit worried about that as I know it will soften and mold to my body in a short time. The only reason I've given my review 4-stars instead of 5 is that there are some ripples on the lip of the chair seat caused by the stiff tube-shaped bubble-wrap that the chair was packed in. I am keeping my fingers crossed that these will disappear once I've had a chance to break in the chair. If they're not gone within a week, I will contact Rove customer service, as I am confident that they will work out a solution. Bottom line: the chair is exquisite. I do not regret for one second my decision to go with the reproduction instead of paying more than double the price for the HM medallion. In fact, I will likely be purchasing a second chair from Rove to pair with this one.
