Nice chairs. Shipping was very sluggish
Overall we like these chairs. Please read the entire review if you are considering these chairs.
I had excellent customer service on chat support when ordering two Tobias dining chairs. I needed an exact measurement of the arm height of these chairs to confirm they would fit under my table. The measurements were spot on. I had less than a quarter inch of clearance based on what I was told and that is exactly how it worked out.
Other positives...
- Ordering was easy enough.
- Website had excellent info and pics.
- Packaging was above average.
A couple of issues we came across.
- I felt that when you spend $500+ including shipping on two dining chairs that came in two small boxes (because you have to assemble them) that the shipping speed was VERY sluggish and disappointing. it seemed that my chairs did not leave the store/factory for many days after my order. It took well beyond 10 days after my order for the shipping company to contact me and tell me my chairs were sitting in their warehouse 90 miles away and delivery to my town of 20,000 would be nearly another week before they would be headed our way. We had ordered these chairs for a special family event. They ended up arriving 10 days late. The local shipping company did however help personalize the delivery to keep us from missing appointments, that help pay for this type of thing.
- Assembly was reasonably easy. However, one of the chairs was missing a pre-drilled hole in a critical area. I had to pull out my tools and find a drill bit that appeared to match the existing holes. That was easy enough the chair came together fine.
- Some of the glue areas where the tweed fabric has a small bend on th back of one chair was sub-par and should not have made it past quality control. It could have been easily noted and corrected. But it will next to impossible for me to make it right. It is hard to see but it is there.
If you are thinking about purchasing these chairs consider the following.
- The gray tweed fabric is attractive but does not appear very durable. It is especially attractive to my two cats as a scratching pad. The workaround for us is that these chairs hang on our existing table as described on the website. This is a unique feature that solved the cat scratching issue before it got out of hand. Our cat cannot get into the chairs since their is not room for them to get onto the seat when hanging from the table.
- It will take about 45 minutes to assemble the first chair. 30 minutes per chair after that.
- The chairs ship with a plastic leg slider that helps the chair slide across the floor. We ditched these as they would have most assuredly scratched up or dented our wood floors. I would like to see them ship with some alternative sliders that are a felt type that is adequate for wood and laminate floors.
- The chairs appear to be made of pretty decent and heavy materials. Not a bunch of cheap hardware and poorly written, inconsistent instructions. Glad to see they took time to write up solid instructions and provide quality hardware.
- I really liked the look, layout and extensive info on the website. Great work in this area.
In the end, I would buy these chairs again but I would take into account the SLOW shipping. Had the shipping from order to my door been more appropriate, say no more than ten days, I would give my overall experience 5 stars instead of 4 stars. I hope this info helps Rove Concepts and you as one of their potential customers.
Maybe I can find a reason to order from them again and the next experience will Excellent from start to finish. I will try and post a follow up review relating to durability in a year or so.
