Apprehension to Elation - Wow These DSW Counter Chairs are Great
These DSW Counter Stools have been on my radar for some time with a visit to the site a few times per month for over a year. However, there has also been a solid apprehension because the original Eames line never had this style of chair and the question remained whether the design worked in a taller version like this.
Well...well...well, upon arrival and unpacking of the two ordered all apprehension immediately turned to elation. These are solid chairs and boy howdy (this is being written in Austin, TX) does the concept work well. One of these is in the kitchen for a place to sit while things cook or just to hang out with the cook. The other chair is in the garage workshop and works great for sitting and getting into some focused hand work. The chairs themselves are well built and sturdy. Though the seat is plastic it is not wishy washy but not so hard that it is uncomfortable to sit in for a while. The color in the seats is nice and very consistent throughout without any splotches or variations. The legs are surprisingly sturdy despite being so tall and the reinforcing ring halfway up serves its purpose well along with functioning as a perfectly placed foot rest. Not only do they function well but they look damn good while functioning well.
The only complaint about these chairs, and it is truly a picky one, is that there is a little movement in the leg base brackets that the seat mounts to. It is not enough to make a difference, but to OCD individuals like myself it is noticeable. The movement was more noticeable on one than the other. This is not a deal breaker, or even an issue to normal folks, but I wanted to bring up at least one thing lest this review come across as a sycophantic style buttkiss.
Nonetheless, buy one or two if you have even the slightest need and you will not be disappointed. If you buy one you will want another...that's a fact.
