Modern felt fabric feels smooth and nice. Slightly rough, but you barely notice it.

Keep in mind couch is seated lower than average, but is fine. my partner is 5"7, 190 lbs and his legs are almost 90 degrees to the floor when seated (no discomfort). If you're lighter and/or shorter, this height is definitely not an issue. I believe standard seating height is minimal 13 inches. For modern look, it's perfect. Downside, no head rest; only an issue for people who like to lay really far back. You can easily add a pillow behind given the flat structured surface.
