Disappointing quality, worthless guarantee

I received a Seiko Automatic from my wife as a 50th birthday present and was initially very pleased with it as it was clear and smart. However I did notice it lost more time each day then I was used to with previous automatics - around a minute a day.
Unfortunately the watch began to deteriorate after a year, losing 2+ minutes per day, at which point my wife offered to return it as it was still within the warranty period.
Around three weeks after returning the watch we received an email from Seiko. In short they accused me of maltreating the watch, and sent pictures of minor scratches on the watch face as evidence. They therefore refused to honour the guarantee but offered to repair the device but at a cost that worked out as 62.5% of the purchase price! We therefore declined and will put the money towards a better quality replacement.
Bottom line : a disappointing experience from start to finish - questionable quality and poor/unhelpful customer service. Seiko have lost a customer.

Sent my Seiko diver in for repair four…

Sent my Seiko diver in for repair four weeks ago as it needed the stem replaced. Telephoned this morning for an update and was told it hadn't even been sent to the workshop yet and it could possibly take another two weeks to complete the repair. So if it's taking six weeks for a repair to go through the system they must have a backlog of repairs so this reflects on the quality of their watches.
What has annoyed me so much is I could have had the watch repaired locally within a week but as it's a £600 watch I thought it would be better sending sending it to Seiko for a superior service direct from the manufacturer.
I have seven Seiko's but if this is the best service they offer I won't be buying another.

Just a quick update. Another week and still no sign of my watch. I can't believe how poor their aftersales service is.

Watch arrived back today repaired and working. Sent 4th of April and today's the 14th of May.

I bought a new Seiko automatic diving watch.
I brought it already 2 times for repair, 1 time because the time loose 5 min or more every day, the second time because humidity came inside the watch. Now the 3rd time i have to go because the mecanism does not work well and loose 1 hour every day!
What a pity!! , I was wrong to think Seiko where good for automatic diving watches.
I WILL NOT BUY AGAIN THIS JUNK BRAND !

A bitterly disappointing experience

I bought a Seiko automatic watch for £139 in April 2025 and took it to a local watch repairer to have the bracelet adjusted in May 2025. I mentioned it seemed to lose a couple of minutes every 24 hours, which was a bit disappointing for a watch of this supposed quality.
The shop took some links out of the bracelet and told me they had also adjusted the timekeeping.
All was well until March 2026 when the watch stopped working. I then contacted Seiko and returned the watch to them for inspection and repair. Since the local watch shop had already made an adjustment this had invalidated the guarantee. I was willing g to pay for any repairs until Seiko sent me an estimate for £195 to fix the watch. What a joke! Needless to say I declined this ridiculous offer and will now either see if my local shop is able to repair it for a more reasonable cost, or look for a replacement of better quality than Seiko are now capable of producing.

Seiko Watch of America LLC

Seiko Watch of America LLC – Public Review

I purchased a Seiko automatic watch on January 4th, and after just a little over two months of normal daily wear, the watch began losing 10–15 seconds every single day. I wear it all day and only remove it to shower, so it receives more than enough wrist movement to stay properly wound. A watch this new should not be drifting that badly.
When I contacted Seiko for support, I was told that I should “shake the watch 30 times every morning” to keep it accurate. That is not an acceptable solution for a brand‑new automatic watch, especially from a company with Seiko’s reputation. Instead of addressing the defect or offering meaningful assistance, I was left with a watch that doesn’t keep proper time and a suggestion that places the responsibility back on the customer.
I expected better quality control and better customer support from Seiko. Very disappointing experience.

Sending used, scratched, dirty watches and don’t care

I’ve never received such poor customer service in my life. I ordered this as a gift for someone and when I opened the box, the watch was hanging off the pillow, there were scratches and scrapes on it, the protective plastic was so grimy it wouldn’t stay on the band, there was dust/particles in every crevice, and the protection around the clasp was missing. It was clearly someone’s return after they wore it. I emailed twice in 5 days, heard nothing back, and had to reach out on Instagram to get a response from Seiko. Their response was to send me the link to their return policy. I told them I’m not paying for return shipping for THEIR mistake, this wasn’t me changing my mind, I received something in poor condition from them. I also asked if I could expect the next watch to be in this condition since they didn’t seem to care or have quality control, and mentioned that this was a gift and I had no way to know if the replacement would come in time. All they did was send me a return label. No apology, no “this is absolutely not the quality and experience we at Seiko want our customers to have” or “we will expedite a replacement to you for our mistake”…nothing. Just a label. I sent it back for a refund. Ordered from Teddy Baldassare and not only was the watch in pristine condition, but I saved $70. Order from there, because Seiko doesn’t care what you get. I literally got the wrong donut in my order from a local cafe that same week, and they refunded my entire order and called me to apologize and make sure I was satisfied. Why am I getting better customer service over a donut than a luxury brand item??

Worst customer service I have EVER experienced

I purchased a Seiko chronograph and needed it up sized a little bit (one link). Seiko said "sure" and sold me a link for $40 WITH THE INCORRECT PIN and then refused to do anything to help me in any way. I have never had customer service this horrible. Completely useless and uncaring. Trust me, save yourself the trouble and buy a Bulova or Timex or really ANYTHING but Seiko. Terrible people with terrible service.

No accaountability from Seiko for premature watch failure

Disappointed by Seiko’s response to a premature Solar watch failure

I purchased a Seiko Solar watch (model V137) about four years ago as a special gift for my mother’s 80th birthday, trusting Seiko’s reputation for durability and quality. Unfortunately, despite extremely careful use, the watch completely stopped working after only four years — far below what any customer would reasonably expect from a Seiko product.

I contacted Seiko USA, Seiko Japan, and followed all their instructions, but each reply was a standard template. None of the offices addressed the issue of the watch’s unusually short lifetime or offered any goodwill assistance — not even a referral that truly reflected customer care.

I have always admired Seiko’s heritage and craftsmanship, but this experience has left me genuinely disappointed in how the company treats loyal customers.
After this, I will no longer easily consider Seiko for future purchase.

Newly U.K

Seiko automatic watch, just purchased in the UK at it keeps loosing 30-40 minuets, ie keeps stoping and starting. Told by retailer this it is common for people who are not active and need to supplement the autowind with a watch winder. I am an active pensioner. Nowhere in any Seiko advertising is any mention of a watch winder being required. I consider the watch “not fit for purpose”

The most abysmal customer service reply from Japan

I purchased my grail watch almost 5 years ago. A Grand Seiko GMT at a cost of £5500. By far the most expensive watch I have ever owned.

Everything was ok until Dec 2022 when the crown developed a fault. It was sent to Seiko UK who repaired it under warranty.

Everything was ok until April 2025, when setting the date via the crown and hour hand as it is a GMT, the hour hand started free spinning.
Sent it again to Seiko UK who wanted to charge £650 for a service and polish.

After contacting Seiko UK i was then told that the watch needs a part from Japan expected in mid May, so the service would not have covered this part as far as I am aware.

I got in touch with GS Boutique for Seiko complaints dept, not in UK but Japan. I was given a form to complete and email to them.

The reply from a Seiko representative named Hasegawa, was not only disgusting but also provoking to say the least.

To that end, I will never buy Seiko ever again! It seems that they can make a watch for £100 that can last a lifetime, but one that costs 55 times the price breaks down after a few years. Not fit for purpose is the answer I have received from trading standards now, hence this review.
Seiko UK have been ok, but Seiko Japan are an uncaring, absolute joke.

Seiko Australia Customer Service

G'day. Just had an excellent customer service experience with Seiko Australia. Asked a couple of questions about the Prospex SLA079 on line. Had a personal phone call back from Jason within half a hour, answered all my questions. I do not often bother with customer reviews, this is a one off. I have been a watch collector for many years. Currently own many including Omega seamaster, Tudor Black Bay etc. Seiko SLA models are at or above this level of quality. Sounds like a commercial for Seiko but well deserved.

Unexpected help from Seiko UK Customer Services

I have been unable to wear my Seiko Prospex Kinetic divers watch for best part of a year now, all because I 'lost' two very tiny tubes when removing the bracelet so I could change the watch capacitor.
I have since learned that this a very common mistake made by many who don’t know about 'pin and collar' style watch bracelets.
I have spent untold hours searching the internet to locate these microscopic collars (or tubes) which would hold the link pins of my watch bracelet. I eventually rang Seiko Customer Service and spoke with a very helpful agent Michelle Nicolls. She listened to my plight, took details from me, and kindly located the bits I needed and sent them to me free of charge. This is customer service at its best. Because of Michelles help I am now able to wear my favourite beast of a divers watch again!

I've been a fan of luxury watches for a long time, and my encounters with Seiko have been truly impressive. The design and meticulous workmanship in their watches showcase their deep tradition of watchmaking.
My Seiko Presage Automatic is a stunning piece with its detailed dial and beautiful finish - it's like owning a masterpiece. Its automatic movement not only keeps accurate time but also brings back memories of classic watch craftsmanship.
I wish I could afford more pieces of Seiko watches, but they are quite expensive, let’s be real.

Apalling after sales service

Apalling after sales service. Automatic winding watch just out of Guarantee, and hardly worn mechanism not allowing the second hand to move and therefore the watch unworkable.

Taken to Agent who told me that it may need "cleaning, but the cost would be over £150 - I could buy a new watch if that. It should not that to clean a watch.

Told by dealer that it could take up to 12 weeks for the watch to be repaired/cleaned, but could not give answer.

I have had issues with SEIKO before relating to something as a link watch strap, Four months later they had still not found a suitable replacement. Took the watch back and finding an independent watch maker the bracelet was found and attached to the watch in the space of three weeks.

Atrocious customer service, and due to special tools for the watch in question something that another watch maker can mend.

*********************

See my subsequent review having made a formal complaint to SEIKO Head Office.

It seems that it was the original dealer [Earnst Jones Chelmsford] who was insisting on the charge and the fact that they had not bothered to raise the issue with SEIKO direct relating to the mitigating circumstances. So apologies to SEIKO who have now "made good", but concerns about the retailer making a negligent statement.
