Extremely Disappointing Claim Experience

I have had a very frustrating experience with Select Home Warranty regarding a clothes dryer repair.

I initially opened the service request on July 17. The first technician did not show up until approximately one month later, and that was only after multiple follow-ups. The technician diagnosed the dryer and collected my deductible/service fee, but apparently never submitted the diagnosis report to Select Home Warranty. The technician also stopped responding to calls from both me and the warranty company.

Select Home Warranty eventually reassigned the claim to another service provider, Exclusive Service DBA. Their technician came out, diagnosed the dryer, and submitted the report. After that, it took Select Home Warranty approximately three more weeks to approve the claim and obtain the required parts.

The repair was finally completed on August 30. The dryer worked briefly while the technician tested it. However, when we later tried to actually use the dryer, it did not work properly.

I contacted the technician and explained the situation. He returned, inspected the dryer again, identified another issue, and submitted another diagnosis to Select Home Warranty.

Now, after all these delays and after their authorized service provider performed the repair, Select Home Warranty is refusing to cover the additional repair, stating that the problem resulted from an "improper previous repair."

This makes no sense to me as a customer. I followed Select Home Warranty's process and used the service providers assigned through the claim. I did not perform the repair myself or hire an unauthorized technician. If Select Home Warranty believes a previous repair was performed improperly, I believe that issue should be addressed between the warranty company and its service provider—not passed on to the customer.
From the initial request on July 17, I experienced weeks of delays, repeated follow-ups, an unresponsive first technician, another service provider, a repair that did not resolve the problem, and now a denial based on an allegedly improper repair.

I purchased a home warranty specifically to avoid situations like this. Unfortunately, this experience has involved significant delays and frustration, and my dryer is still not properly resolved.

I would strongly recommend that anyone considering Select Home Warranty carefully review how service-provider issues and failed repairs are handled before purchasing a policy.

Do not use this company!!They sell you false promises over the phone but then after you pay they have many reasons not to cover things in their contracts. Every claim I have filed was 4 or more phone calls fighting to get coverage and then being denied many times. Horrible company.

This company is the worst

This company is the worst. They deny every claim and make excuses why things are not covered after they send a technician and collect $65 from you. The technicians they send are subpar and unprofessional. Waste of money. This is a total scam! You are better off putting money in a savings accout than paying these scam artists.

SELECT HOME WARRANTY- THE WORST HOME…

SELECT HOME WARRANTY- THE WORST HOME WARRANTY COMPANY — BUYER BEWARE!
My experience with Select Home Warranty has been absolutely terrible. In my opinion, this company seems far more interested in finding reasons to deny claims than in honoring the coverage its customers pay for.
When it comes time to file a claim, don't expect them to stand behind their promises. Instead, be prepared for excuses, fine-print interpretations, and what feels like an endless search for loopholes to avoid paying for repairs. You pay your premiums expecting protection and peace of mind, only to find yourself fighting the very company that is supposed to help you.
A home warranty is supposed to provide security when something breaks, not create another expensive headache. Based on my experience, Select Home Warranty has completely failed to deliver on that expectation.
My advice: THINK TWICE BEFORE GIVING THIS COMPANY YOUR MONEY!
I would have a very difficult time recommending Select Home Warranty to anyone.
SAVE YOUR MONEY, DO YOUR RESEARCH, AND CONSIDER OTHER OPTIONS BEFORE TRUSTING THIS COMPANY WITH YOUR HOME.

They will find a fine print to deny the repair.

Completely unresponsive and after hours and hours on the phone they will find the fine print not to do the repair. We had a 3-year term and we tried on 3 occasions for 3 different items, each time they claimed some fine print why would not be covered. Absolute waste of money!!!

BEWARE, DON'T BUY FROM THEM

7/17 - 1st service call. Tech came, diagnosed, took my $81.50 check and never came back, never contacted Select fo approval. 2nd tech, diagnosed, Select DENIED claim for high end cooktop, less than 3 years old. "cost of repair exceeds current value"!!! Will give me $225 buyout and I paid $400 for repair. 8/17, 8/28, 9/7, 9/30 emailed for update. NO RESPONSE. 10/5 told I had not responded to email to proceed. I NEVER RECEIVED THAT EMAIL. Ruth resent it twice with no result. She tried a different email and I received it, sent it back. $225 being processed, will get in 30 days! 10/6 asked for refund on balance of warranty. They can send $125 but will cancel the $225!
According to Loyalty Dept, they don't cover high end appliances. When I bought the policy, Lucas Smart assured me they replace like for like parts and appliances. Is this FRAUD??? Stay away from them

Just a scam

Just a scam. Fine print on contract basically allows them to deny most claims. On top of that, they send out an unqualified "technician" that looks at your equipment for 5 minutes and says it's broke while extended his hand for the $100 cash or check. Shady shady scam.

Charlotte

Charlotte, NC 28277. After paying $500+ and never having a claim until this Wed 9/2. I request washing machine service via the portal. I never got confirmation that a tech was dispatched, so I called customer service. The 1st CS rep told me, GE is a partner and that they'd do the service. He called GE, but nobody answered, so he found another company G&J. He said, "They will be out to your home Wed between 2-4." I was like WOW and filled out the customer survey for an additional month of coverage.
Later that day, I received a schedule option form, i.e., here are the days and times G&J can service your washer. I selected Thur 8-12 and Thur 12-4 and Friday 8-12 i.e., 9/3 and 9/4, I also called and text them to call me, but they did not. Thursday comes and goes and no G&J service. I called your customer service again, this time, the young lady called G&J herself and said the tech will call. No call. So I called again Thursday late 5:00pm and your customer service person said, "I will have G&J tech call you directly."

I get a call from a G&J tech who could not speak English and he said, "The soonest I can come out is Wed 9/10." I said, "I have a house full of people coming during the holidays and I need the washer to work." I called back to Customer Service again, and they suggested I find my own tech, but there is no way I'm going to find someone on Friday before a holiday. And if I knew you could not have helped me on Wed., 9/2 I could have found a company.

Follow-up: I engaged the NC Consumer Protection Agency, and they sided with me, but they have no power; they recommended I hire a lawyer.

Lastly, when you sign up, they offer one free month if you give a favorable review; of course, your buying experience is excellent, and that's why the reviews are so high.

This is the worst company I have ever…

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with.
A few years ago, Select Home Warranty offered me two free months of coverage if I left them a positive review. At the time, I didn’t think much of it, but now I understand why their ratings appear higher than the service they actually provide. Incentivizing good reviews creates a misleading picture for homeowners who rely on honest feedback.
I put in a claim for my dishwasher, 0409127. The technician came out; all he did was look at my filter, use a meter, and say it needed an update. I don't use my dishwasher often, but the next time I did, it was still doing the same thing: it wouldn't turn off. I have had to turn it off and on with my circuit breaker. I called and was sent another technician out. It took him 10 minutes to know what was wrong. He told me he would order the parts and come back to install them. It was approved. Today I called again to ask where my parts were.was told my contract had expired. This was an ongoing claim that was approved before my contract expired. I called another person at Select, and was told I was approved for $185 because they could not find the parts; I was never notified about that. I was told I would need a receipt to get the check. How am I supposed to get a receipt if they can't even find the parts? I thought this company replaced it; they could not fix it. But that is a big fat no, which is this company's favorite word.

DO NOT GET THIS WARRANTY COMPANY; EVEN TECHNICIANS SAY THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST WARRANTY COMPANIES THEY DEAL WITH.

Here are some things that I dealt with with this company.

1. Had a leak under the kitchen sink. The technician came out and said it was the faucet. He went to his truck, called Select Home Warranty, and was told they don't cover faucets because they're a fixture. Who knew? That cost me almost $700.

2. Garbage disposal. They will only give you $75 towards a new one. The cheapest I could find was $99. They do not send anyone out to replace it. You are on your own. It costs $300 to $450 to replace it with the plumber.

3. A/C wouldn't turn on. They sent someone out, but they would not cover the wiring. I called an A/C company, and they told me it would cost $220 to fix the wiring, but since it was so old, they didn't think it would even make it through the summer. Given the compatibility issues between older furnaces (7 years old) and the new A/C units, I may have had to replace the furnace too; I know darn well Select Home would not do that. I put in a new A/C; the cost was over $5,000.

4. I had a leak in my plumbing in the crawl space. They say they cover the plumbing system. They wouldn't fix it because it wasn't in the house, even though I thought it was part of the plumbing system.

This company was one of the biggest wastes of money, plus a lot of aggravation and stress.
