How is shapeways still in business?

This company has always been horrible. Not only is there work inadequate but now they have somehow deleted my account without informing me and they have deleted all of the files, which were dozens, and I can't even log in obviously because my account has been deleted. I would strongly recommend not using shapeways for anything. Their customer support is also nearly non-existent. When a company doesn't have a support phone number it's already a bad sign. I see from the reviews that others have left that I am not alone and I think there are two star rating overall is probably way too high.

Stolen email address?

I’ve NEVER heard of this company. I have zero interest in 3D crap, so I know I would never visit their site let alone give them my email. Yet somehow they have managed to get my email address and subscribe me to their emailing list.

Not a serious company

Last June 2024 I paid for my order #4842977 which was never completed, I have not received any refund or message from the company.
The company has re-started its activity but, as far as I can see, ignores previous payments and orders which means Shapeways will proceed the same way if it happens again.
This is unfair to customers and clearly shows what kind of policy this company follows.

SHAPEWAYS is currently out of business

For those leaving negative reviews about non-delivery and lack of communication from SHAPEWAYS, that is because the company filed for bankruptcy and ceased trading on 2 July 2024. A real shame, as I have always found them to be great, both with the quality of their products and the price charged. Hopefully there will be a way back in to business for them in the future.

I placed on order on June 28th with an…

I placed on order on June 28th with an estimated ship date of August 1st.

I have attempted to obtain an order status 10+ times, and receive the same auto-responder reply each time. They have no other contact information.

If someone there would respond, it would alleviate my concern, but it seems that they only read these reviews.

I am going to dispute the charge with PayPal if I don't hear anything from them within the next 2 days.

Took my money and did not deliver product

Placed order on 6/25/24 with estimated shipment 7/5/24. Status remains "in production" today, 8/7/24. No response to email inquiries and their telephone number has a message that the line does not receive calls. I am disputing the transaction with my credit card.

Source of otherwise unobtainable items

I've obtained some otherwise unobtainable 1:400 scale model aircraft from Shapeways.

As an expert modeller, I was very pleased with the quality and the price.

The only difficulty was communication – as their website is very slow – that said, they're a specialist company that helps designers with hi-tech 3D printing.

Placed order on 25th & 26th of June…

Placed order on 25th & 26th of June expected shippment was showing as 3rd July. Status continues to show in production, I made multiple attemps to contact support with every email failing to get response. When I wanted to double my order they were quick to respond but totally failed to respond in all other cases. In short quick to take orders and moneys but fail to respond or update on order. I have put dispute through PayPal with copies of all unaswered emails.

Unseen tax

Unseen tax, payed for shipping which was pretty expensive and after i received the item i get a letter from ups saying i need to pay the shipping once again, exactly same amount as on the order! pretty great huh?

It appears that the additional charge you received from UPS is related to import duties and taxes, which are standard for international shipments to Norway. These charges are levied by your local government and are not something we control.

Import Duties and Taxes: These are imposed by your local customs authority and are separate from shipping fees. They are standard practice for international purchases and are based on the value of the goods.
Shipping Costs: The initial shipping fee you paid covers the cost of sending the item from our warehouse to your address. Unfortunately, it does not cover customs duties, which are collected by the local authorities.

Updated (fixed) Unseen tax charge

Update: Increased from 1 star to 3 stars. I'm very grateful for the excellent customer service from the Shapeways team in recognising the error, refunding part of the payment where there has been miscalculations, and for their commitment to review how any further tax payments are highlighted at the checkout. Can't really give higher as some of those changes haven't yet been implemented and this was a very stressful experience for myself and a disabled family member. Nonetheless my faith in the company has been restored and I look forward to shopping with them again.

I have been left with a completely avoidable £59 charge having spent over £150 already with them. They don't calculate the tax if you spend over £135 which there was no reference to whatsoever on the checkout. Had I known I simply wouldn't have spent above this amount (perfectly possible with my order) and now I risk losing it entirely. All I needed was a sentence referencing the policy and this could have been avoided, rather than diving into their FAQ's after the exorbitant charge from UPS!

We definitely understand your concerns regarding the £59 fee.
Unfortunately as our Customer Service team explained, due to changes in UK customs regulations following Brexit, orders over £135 are subject to VAT and duty charges.
This is also the reason why we state that no tax is charged upon checkout.

While charging VAT is outside of Shapeways' control and is a requirement for any product that enters the UK, we will evaluate how this can be better communicated during checkout.

False advertising? Crumby service.

Great website, interface, checkout and whatnot. However after paying $200+ and placing an order, I immediately received an email saying that what I purchased is not printable and the order will be cancelled in 7 days. I was beyond angry to learn that this business advertises products they're literally not capable of making and are aware of it. If you can automatically tell me this item isn't printable 0.1 seconds after paying for it, you can tell me it's not printable BEFORE I pay for the thing, or hey, just remove it from the website seeing as you cannot make or sell it. Blatant false advertising likely to make them look more skilled than they really are. All support emails are aggravating auto-robot replies that answer nothing. got issued a "refund" according to shapeways but have still yet to get my $200 back, will probably have to go to the bank and do a chargeback just to get my money back. I'd rather have gotten the item I attempted to purchase.

Save yourself the hassle (and money) and go to a real human model-maker.

Great rc parts.

The service is great. The parts they make are perfect. Not had any problems with the parts at all. I use them for custom rc built drag cars.
Everything is fantastic. They do a very good job.

Shapeways Cannot Print Fine Details That Home Resin Printers Can

I spent a week with their support trying to get my N Scale designs ready for Shapeways to sell my designs. Everything was uploaded and the renders looked good and gave the green light to print. On the first order everything was taken down that my details were too thin and would not survive there manufacturing. Adding the thickness they wanted to the models would ruin the look of the model.

I was able to print these fine on my home resin printer and the details did not break during cleanup, painting or assembly. Apperatly a $150 home use resin printer and real person can outperform a larger international company on quality, durability and handling.

Scam

The part I received did not include a second part that was pictured for proper operation. When I tried to inquire why I received only 1 of 2 parts and if the 2nd part could be ordered if I paid extra and it has been crickets.
Would never do business with them again.

YOU WILL LOSE MONEY HERE If Your Product Consists Of Few Parts

On December 15, I did Order #4706270 for the manufacture of a watch case consisting of five parts made of brass worth more than $ 300. Already on December 16th, I received an email saying that everything is fine with my order and it is in progress. But on the 18th, they sent me a message saying that they could not do one detail and offered to refund the money. Or redo the part. BUT the fact is that the order loses its meaning if one part is missing. And refinement in the case of one detail requires another. I asked for a refund and to cancel the order, but I was refused, citing internal rules. I asked how do I make an order so that all the parts are printed or nothing. I was told to attach one file with several parts inside. However, it doesn't work! to which they replied that they would look at why it didn't work for them, but the order would not be canceled and the money would not be refunded, but they would send me the order without one (very important) part. In this way, the SW team shifts its problems onto the shoulders of customers. I just threw $200 in the trash. ($100 refund) It's like if you ordered a car, and it came to you without an engine, but the seller honestly returned the money for the engine. Be careful with SW and don't trust like me. If you need to make several parts for one assembly, use another provider. For example, with craftcloud, there is never a problem with canceling if something went wrong. I wish the entire SW team to get the same skam from life as they provide to their clients.

I ordered a 3D replica of Jill Tuck’s heart key from the Saw movie and wow it’s more than perfect ! I’m very happy with my new silver pendant, the quality and the finition are flawless. Plus the shipping was really fast. Would definitely recommend

cheap plastic gizmo made egomaniacal phone dweebs

I bought a camera lens adapter from these clowns. It is cheap plastic spryed or dipped in some kind of rough spray paint like stuff and the item does not fit. They refuse to refund and demand photos of my camera and strut about about like superior beings with no customer service skills. Phone dweebs in a garage with a keen gizmo 3d printer. Not reliable.

I ordered a 3D model product from them and I am extremly satisfied. I never felt like that after product purchase. Good quality and exectly what I wanted. I definitely recomend them to everyone who is interested in 3D printing.
