Surprise Charges
I have been using autopay for my payments with Synchrony Bank, assuming that making my monthly payments on time would keep my account in good standing. However, about two months ago, the bank introduced a policy requiring customers to pay off the entire remaining balance under what it refers to as a “PROMOTION,” even when regular monthly payments are being made on time. Failure to pay the full balance can result in substantial penalties and interest charges.
What makes this particularly concerning is the lack of clear and direct communication about this requirement. Instead of notifying customers separately, the bank appears to rely on mentioning it as a “Promotion” in the monthly statement, which can easily be overlooked by customers who have enrolled in autopay and reasonably expect their payments to be handled automatically.
This practice feels misleading and unfair to responsible customers who make their payments on time. Autopay should provide convenience and peace of mind, not expose customers to unexpected penalties because an important payment condition was not clearly communicated.
I urge Synchrony Bank to improve its transparency, provide clear and direct notifications about such policies, and treat its customers fairly. I would strongly advise other customers to review about the bank before going for such banks and also review their monthly statements carefully, even if they have autopay enabled, to avoid unpleasant surprises.
DONOT due business with this bank!!
DONOT due business with this bank!!! they are a scam bank! When we PAIDOFF 4 accounts with them, they held the payments for more then 15 days. Then slowly released the line of credit over 21 days before they released all the money to my line of credit. THEY SUCK!! I will close my accounts as soon as the credits have all been applied and recommend NO one do business with this sucky bank. BTW they also lower you line of credit without any notification as to why they lowered your line of credit, with NO late pays or any derogitary reason either!!!!!
My dignity is worth more than 5% Cashback
I've had an Amazon Synchrony Card for almost ten years. The account was opened under my previous name at the time. When I tried to get my legally changed name updated on this account I was told that I would need to fax (who has a fax these days) or send the documentation via mail, as they no longer have a secure email. I contacted first the ChatBot, then a live chat agent, then an on the phone agent, and then that person's supervisor to explain that I had the documents in electronic form with no printer to print and send nor a "fax" machine. Each line of support would not accept that this was a legal name change they insisted that I disclose the specific reason for the name change. Given what my name had been to what it is now, think it was pretty clear without the specific statement. I found this line of questioning to be highly offensive. I mentioned this to the Supervisor who gave a pat apology but no resolution. So I told her to close my account. To which she replied well you know you will be losing out on the 5% cashback reward. I told her my dignity was worth at least 5% and to please close the account!! Oh yeah to top it all off they sent me my closure letter via secure email!!
Sychrony does not know right from wrong
In short, Sychrony Bank continues to charge us twice for our Lowes purchase of one dishwasher. They apparently do NOT know right from wrong!
Four years ago I purchased a set of…
Four years ago I purchased a set of tires from discount tire using Synchrony to finance them. The first problem I encountered then was the app downloaded on my iPhone was not at all user-friendly. It was difficult to sign in because they made it difficult. But that's not the reason I write this review I will continue. There was a problem with the first payment being posted and I was charged Lake fee when I made the payment on time. They insisted that the late fee would stick.
The following month I paid the account off telling myself that I would never use them again and didn't. When I ordered from my Amazon account I would use my credit debit card and not Synchrony. Fast forward to now four years later. I found myself at discount tire again needing tires and I put them on the Synchrony account sadly.
I went online to make my first payment last month. Inputting the banking information unfortunately the final digit of the account number I put in incorrectly. That was my fault and I will own that it was accidental and I can assure you it was not purposely done however, if you ask them you would think that I did. Nonetheless, this did happen. In the following days two or three I always go back and make sure that my payments of all of my bills were submitted and withdrawn. I noticed that Synchrony withdrawal was not there. Mind you, I was sent confirmation that my payment had been received and it was posted to my Synchrony account but this still concern me so I called them and explained the situation that I did not see them withdraw the money from my account. I was informed that this sometimes takes time and that everything should be fine I waited another day possibly two days and I called them again a second time to check to see why this payment was not withdrawn again! I was informed that all is good. The following week I received a message from Synchrony telling me that my payment had not posted and that I would be charged a $30 late fee. So I called them again a third time but this time to address this late fee. Needless to say I was not happy that this happened especially after I called several times to check on this. When I called I got what I will describe as a snotty representative that had no issue to explain to me that the late charge would not be refunded because it was my error! My response to her was yes I may have made an error but so did you when I called twice and you told me not to worry about it!
My humble opinion is this, the charge should have been removed simply because with due diligence I called to check on this out of concern and was told not to worry about it. It was the same sort of bullshit that happened four years ago but here in lies the difference this time. I will pay Synchrony off and this time I will cut the card up and I will never use it again. I will call them and tell them to close the account. Then I will share with everyone I know how I was treated by this Bank. The sad thing is over $30 which will not break me but it is the principal. Over $30 they will lose my business and that's guaranteed. I would encourage you to find someplace else to Bank and do not use Synchrony. The customer service is horrible and they are pathetic liars!
$30- what idiots 😡
Forced to default
I would give them a -5 if it were an option. I’ve taken out two loans with this bank in the last eight years and both times no paperwork or credit cards were ever received without having to call over and over and over and over again. It is my belief that this company intentionally tries to make you default so you are liable for the penalties of the loan. This is absolutely wrong. I will never ever ever take out a loan with synchrony Bank again.
Extremely Disappointed — Perfect Payment History Means Nothing to Synchrony Bank
I would give Synchrony Bank zero stars if that were an option. My experience with this company has been incredibly disappointing, and I want other consumers to think carefully before opening a Synchrony-issued credit card.
Despite maintaining a perfect payment history, never missing payments, and keeping my accounts in good standing, Synchrony Bank made the decision to close all seven of my credit card accounts. There was no advance warning and no meaningful opportunity to address their concerns before they made this decision.
What makes this experience even more frustrating is that they didn't just close accounts carrying balances. They also closed cards that I had already paid off and that had a zero balance. Think about that for a moment: even accounts I had paid off in full were not spared. After building a payment history and maintaining these accounts responsibly, I was left wondering what the point of being a reliable customer was in the first place.
When I contacted Synchrony, I was told the closures were related to a risk management assessment. Apparently, a perfect payment history does not guarantee that your accounts will remain open. I understand that financial institutions have the right to evaluate risk, but the way this situation unfolded left me deeply disappointed. There was no advance warning, and the decision affected every one of my seven accounts so now I will have seven closed accounts on my credit which will damage my credit score for some time.
Consumers need to understand that having a history of paying on time does not guarantee that a lender will preserve your available credit. Having multiple accounts with the same bank can leave you particularly vulnerable when that institution decides to make sweeping changes. Losing access to all seven accounts at once can also affect your overall credit utilization and potentially damage your credit score.
I am not upset because I believe a bank is obligated to extend credit forever. I am upset because I built a history with this company, paid my bills responsibly, and expected a more transparent and considerate customer experience. Instead, I learned the hard way that years of responsible account management may not prevent a sudden decision that affects multiple accounts simultaneously.
My relationship with Synchrony Bank is over. I have no intention of applying for another Synchrony-issued credit card, regardless of the retailer or brand attached to it. I will continue meeting my existing financial obligations, but Synchrony has permanently lost my trust and my future business.
My advice to other consumers: Do your research before opening a Synchrony-issued card, understand that credit limits and accounts can be changed or closed, and avoid assuming that a perfect payment history guarantees continued access to credit. My experience has been a harsh lesson, and I hope others consider the potential risks before putting their trust in this institution.
Synchrony is not for the long term plan!!!
Before I learned my lesson I had six or seven different credit accounts with Synchrony. The main things that make this company crap is that you can have an account with them for years, not miss payments, and be in good standing. They will suddenly reduce your credit limit for some bogus reason. And then, almost out of the blue, they will close your account!
This time I kinda have a clue why. They issued me a Sam’s Card (I did not know they were the issuer) and within two weeks they closed it. This made me mad so I called and told them to never offer me any more credit cards, EVER! And to note my account, blah, blah…
Ten days later they closed the last two cards I had with them.
I’m free from Synchrony🥰🥰🥰
SCAM
SCAM. SCAM. SCAM. Rick with Customer Service #7826 was completely rude and unhelpful. Stay away from this Card/Bank.
⭐ 1 STAR – BEWARE OF SYNCHRONY BANK'S MISLEADING 0% FINANCING!
I would strongly caution anyone considering financing through Synchrony Bank, especially when purchasing furniture from Living Spaces.
In November 2022, I purchased $5,873.29 worth of furniture from Living Spaces and was offered what was presented to me as 0% financing. What was NEVER clearly explained during the sales process was that this was actually a deferred-interest promotion, meaning that if the balance wasn't paid in full by a specific date, ALL the interest dating back to the original purchase would be charged retroactively.
Had this been properly explained, I would have paid off the balance before the promotion expired.
Fast-forward, and despite making payments consistently and having already paid essentially the entire original purchase price, I discovered the following:
Original purchase: $5,873.29
Remaining principal: $2,231
Interest charges: $3,814
Interest rate: As high as 34.99%
That's nearly $4,000 in interest on a furniture purchase that was advertised to me as 0% financing!
What makes this even worse is Synchrony Bank's complete unwillingness to work with customers. I spent countless hours speaking with representatives, supervisors, and escalating complaints, only to be repeatedly denied any adjustment or goodwill credit. Their customer service makes it incredibly difficult to reach anyone with actual authority to resolve an issue.
To make matters worse, Synchrony sent me a letter stating that my account had a zero balance in November 2022, despite my having opened the account and financed the purchase that same month. This only added to my concerns about their recordkeeping and customer service.
After researching Synchrony Bank, I discovered numerous other consumer complaints describing remarkably similar experiences with deferred interest and unexpected charges.
My biggest issue is the disconnect between Living Spaces and Synchrony Bank. Customers are sold on the appeal of 0% financing without, in my experience, a clear explanation of the enormous financial consequences if the promotional balance isn't paid off by the deadline.
I take responsibility for my financial obligations, but I also expect transparency, honest disclosures, and reasonable customer service. Unfortunately, my experience with Synchrony Bank has been the complete opposite.
After exhausting every avenue I could to resolve this fairly, Synchrony refused to reverse even a portion of the interest.
My advice: AVOID SYNCHRONY BANK FINANCING. If a retailer offers you 0% financing through Synchrony, read every word of the agreement and understand exactly what happens when the promotion expires. What sounds like a great financing offer can turn into thousands of dollars in unexpected interest.
I will never finance another purchase through Synchrony Bank and would strongly encourage others to think twice before doing so.
I was on the phone for over an hour
I was on the phone for over an hour. I talked to customer service twice(two different numbers) and tech support. I couldn't login to my account no matter what they asked me to do. They couldn't find me in their system. I did work with a tech who knew what she was doing and she could see my account, but every time and every way I tried to log in they couldn't find my account from my end. We tried everything to no avail. I now have a ticket# and was told it would take 7 to 14 days to resolve. This bank has always given me login problems, but never this bad.
Evil empire. Does not protect its account holders.
I was scammed on ebay and even though UPS provided clear proof that the item was not delivered to my home but to a location on the opposite side of the city, Synchrony Bank did not protect me as a buyer (via PayPal credit, which I used for protection on eBay when buying what was for me a "bigger ticket item.").
It turns out that when you as a buyer report this, Synchrony Bank ignores any proof the buyer provides and just goes straight to the ebay seller (something I could not do as the scammer closed their account as soon as I contacted them to tell them the item was misdelivered and I needed help).
It took me four months to reach a customer service rep that both spoke and understood English well enough to understand my case, and when he took a look at the delivery address clear across the city and the straight-from-UPS delivery record showing a different address than mine, he agreed that I was in the right and deserved to have my money refunded. To date this still hasn't happened. I have spent hours on this. On top of it all, they cut my credit line down to a third of what it was.
The customer service rep also asked if I planned on activating my new Paypal Credit credit card, at which time I laughed and said that I would never use PayPal Credit again, for anything, to which he laughed and said "yeah, I don't blame you."
Synchrony also runs CareCredit and Amazon Storecard (among many others, I am sure). If you have any of these accounts pay them off as soon as you possibly can and never use them again.
The worst company out there being used…
The worst company out there being used by large businesses like venmo and paypal. Absolutely abysmal customer service with clueless support. Non stop fraud alerts making you do verification any time you spend money.
Have been dealing with synchrony bank…
Have been dealing with synchrony bank for the longest I have a issue with ebay the seller was shots down by ebay send screenshot that ebay send saying I didn't have communication asking ebay for a return label and guess what they denied my claim because I did not return the item how you want me to make up the address but ebay and synchrony they partners in crime selling counterfeit good synchrony allow is ok 👍
If I could give zero stars
If I could give zero stars, trust me, Synchrony Bank and their website would get ZERO stars. New card holder with them and the website spins and spins and spins. When I finally get to the login, my account cannot be found. Yay, cannot wait to be waiting on hold with them next week.
Rating as low as possible
Rating as low as possible. I already have a Harbor Freight credit card through synchrony. Every time I go to Sam's club I am pestered at the checkout to sign up for the Sam's club credit card. I always say no, but recently they have been offering a 5% discount on fuel with Sam's Club credit. So I decided to apply, but at the end of the online process they wanted to get me on video and video verify my identity and driver's license. Keep in mind I already have an account with synchrony and my credit rating is 832. I protect my image and Identity. I will never, ever, ever, ever do this song and dance they want on video. I told them to go f themselves and I don't need their card. Avoid Sam's club credit at all costs. Avoid Synchrony bank at all costs. You've been warned.
I would give them a zero if I could
I would give them a zero if I could. I was one day late on a payment because I had never received a notice that my first payment was due. They charged me $30 for a late fee. The next month I was one day late and they charged me a $41 late fee. I will never make another purchase with this bank again. This is the worst company that I have ever dealt with and I am looking forward to paying this card off, shredding it, and never looking back. They are the definition of predatory and need to be investigated by the federal government.
I would stay far away from this bank
I would stay far away from this bank. I wish I read the reviews before I deposited money. The rate was attractive. Now I need the money for a house closing and I can’t get it out. No no no.
STEALING FROM THE DEAD
Be sure to use ALL of your earned points on credits cards ( in this case AMAZON ) administered through this bank. I am the administrator of an estate and I was kindly informed that the 180.00+/- that she had accrued prior to her death have now become the property of Synchrony Bank....Wanted to apply to her remaining balance, told that is not possible nor is it possible to send money to the estate.
