Nobody is willing to learn a language,nor they know how ,it's basically just a platform with contacts availability with no helpful leads,on top of that the customer service is useless and ban you for non reasons ,money wasted and better not even to give it a try,you'll be disappointed..

Do not use this app. Full of scammers. The app itself seems to be run by scammers. I subscribe for one year and they banned me with no explaination.

awful. took 3x as long to produce something a 3rd grader could do. The AI is really useless and uncreative. The HITL doesnt exist at all. DO NOT USE.

It’s just basically Tinder with extra steps. Men being men with filthy language. Don’t make a mistake of downloading thi rubbish!!!

I got from Italian guy Sexmassages, like which color my hair in my intimate zone is etc...and some jokes about blond hair on head an in the intimate zone, I wrote that in the reference of that guy to warn other woman. I didn`t say dirty words, I just wrote what he had written to me. Than I was accused of mobbing. Because it looks like for tandem a woman who is sexually harressed needs to be silent because when saying the truth its mobbing...mybe the guys pay and tandem needs the customers, but in a time of "me too" it souldn´t be okay to keep women silent and learn langues while being offendend with sex talk

Their staff and moderation policies are deeply flawed, raising serious red flags about their true priorities. Without accountability or support for victims of unjust bans, Tandem essentially scams its users.

A close friend of ours, a long-time, highly-rated user, was permanently banned without explanation or evidence—simply for complimenting someone’s language skills. This is proof of Tandem’s intentional lack of transparency and responsibility. They ban users without justification, avoid offering any substantial support, and leave people vulnerable to arbitrary decisions.

Tandem enables false accusations without consequences, putting innocent users at risk while focusing more on profiting from users than on maintaining fair, consistent moderation. Instead of tackling real problems like fake profiles or scammers, they punish harmless interactions.

The platform exploits users’ trust and investment, knowing they have no recourse once banned. It creates a false sense of security, misleading people into thinking premium features will provide a safer, more supportive experience—when it’s nothing more than a trap. If they can ban loyal users with positive reviews and paid memberships, they’ll do it to anyone. Avoid Tandem: Conversation Exchange & app at all costs to protect your time, money, and well-being.

My experience with Tandem support has been very positive. After my account was banned, especially over the weekend, I was worried it would take a long time to resolve. However, the support team handled the situation professionally and with understanding.

I would like to give a special thank you to Anna 🌸 She was kind, responsive, and truly helpful in guiding me through the process and helping me get my account back. Her support made a stressful situation much easier, and I really appreciated her patience and clarity.

Good point:
-Not CCP Chinese communist app like HelloTalk!
-Doesn’t censor people from Taiwan, Hong Kong etc. You can say Taiwan is a country!
-Nice interface and easy to use

Moderation team does great job!

Bad point:
-Many scammers
-profile is almost invisible if you don’t pay
-membership is too expensive. Very expensive.

Hard to speak as it's full of people monopolizing the conversation! Religion, politics and sensible topics are always discussed with aggressiveness!

A racist person in a chat told me that I’m not British because of the colour of my skin. I said I am British she said “your face betrays you”
I responded by telling her that you need some education on your ignorance… and guess what? I get a warning because this is how sexist and racist the moderators are on the app. They literally do nothing to her for telling an ethnic minority whilst laughing. You’re not British because you don’t look quite European… but because I got annoyed and told her she needs an education for her ignorance I get a warning… I’ve even had it when someone’s been abusive with me and I’ve been abusive back with them in retaliation and they have warned me and when I’ve reported them, they respond by saying they’re not going to warn that person… even though that person’s language was far more offensive than mine. The moderators are extremely racist and prejudice. This constant racism, sexual harassment and homophobic language in the tandem parties. And no one ever gets a warning or banned there.

Too many people with other intentions.

I'm very sorry to write it but I met four friends, three of whom were scammers. They asked me to continue writing to each other using other social networks. Don't ever do it. Stay on Tandem.

My first week using Tandem: The support ppl said that I couldn'tget in at first bc I didn't provide a photo, when it never ASKED for one, as I was just setting-up my account. I got around it by using a different email b4 they even told me that. A fact I put up to their face: they have PLENTY of users who have a compromised photo on Tandem. Some have NO picture whatsoever. Others are CLEARLY perverted and some are clearly NOT genuine. Faces covered, crazy names, naked. So they can't write me and say that it was because I didn't have a picture when I was making a new account! I'm already thinking that Tandem is full of fake, perverted people, just like all the other apps. NOT impressed.

They are behind the times. Their log in is tied to Facebook only. Very antiquated. Disapointing.

I got the App to practice my Italian speaking, few days later, on WhatsApp , I was contacted by an Italian woman offering her services!
At least she wrote it in Italian, so good practice with new vocabulary! I blocked her straight away. Be aware.

The concept is great, connect people that wants to learned a language, making an exchange, I like it. But a lot of people with other intentions, and I don't know how the app can control that. But not everything is negative, I met amazing people that really want to help. I used this app for almost a month.

Tandem has been racist with me. I have created an account and they sent me an email to wait for confirmation and they did not. Excuse is that they have some limitations for some countries, well, I am an ARAB. I have tried different accounts to be honest, and I started feel self-loathing that I might have made a mistake with the information I entered each time. few days ago was me trying for the last time to get approved, basically i am not going to change my nationality or ethnicity, thanks Tandem for being that way.

Great application. #1 It is always improving. #2 Recently, a feature was added to the application which allows you to write in the target language and then get it corrected for grammar, syntax and vocabulary. It is a great addition because it gives you feedback and explanations on how and why your original is flawed. In this way, you learn by leaps and bounds.#3 It gives you the option of connecting with native speakers near you or in the country where the language spoken is your target language. #4 You can record your voice and get recordings from native speakers which helps with listening comprehension and pronunciation.Finally, I have had this app for about 3-5 years and love it so much that I pay for it even though I could get the free version. I have not seen a better application, ever!

Since my retirement from a bilingual position seventeen years ago, I have not had opportunities to speak French. I developed a serious mental block about speaking my second language. My relationships on Tandem have helped me resolve the problem! I specified Francophone women from Québec and my partner has been amazing. We chat daily and speak weekly. She tutors me in differences between standard French and Québec French which has been a boon. My mental block is gone. I am so thankful for the app and my Tandem friend! The app is well designed. Highly recommended.
