A great gym but bad customer service

A great gym with great coaches. The gym is nice and clean and the classes are really good. I have been enjoying going there until I had issues with my membership and I found out that I can only get help from AI automated responses that ended up cancelling my membership. I have waited for two hours on the live chat for a human to speak with, with no luck. The app is glitched and I now can’t access the gym until the app works again so I can rejoin because my membership was cancelled due to a bad AI. I support using AI, but the gym group is such a bad example of the use of AI that a robot can mess up your enquiry and decide to cancel your membership without giving you any chance to speak with a human and despite all the enquiries I write on the live chat, their AI thinks that I want to cancel my membership. If I had a better gym in the area, I would have stopped coming here for this reason. It wasted my time and energy trying to sort out an issue that could have been sorted in few minutes if a human agent was available to help. Aah and the staff at the gym are the nicest people but can not help with any issues with your membership so your only option is to deal with AI and wait until a human decides to help you. And no phone number to call whatsoever.

Beware of the creepy male cleaners!

I have been a member of the Bath gym for nearly 2 years now. The location is very convenient (near the railway and bus station) and I regularly pop in before my commute home. The equipment is also OK.
There are several downsides though. The lockers are very small (if you are carrying a bag with your laptop, a few files and books, your office clothes, toiletries and a towel and your lunch). I usually need to use 2 of them. The changing rooms can also be quite untidy, i.e. people leave long hair behind and discard clothes (especially underwear, the Primark kind) on the floor.
Lately I have seen notices advising members not to use the toilets as changing cubicles but to use the showers instead. There are only 2 or 3 showers available (one of them is sometimes out of order).
Finally, on my last visit, the male cleaner repeatedly entered the changing rooms, each time shouting to ask if it was OK or if we were OK. I initially replied but that seemed to encourage him so he dropped in again and again. He didn't seem to be doing anything apart from checking that we were OK. Like part of his job duty is to help women change clothes or take a shower, or to offer spiritual comfort? I don't know whether he was trying to find a date, but the changing rooms in a gym isn't the best place to look. It felt really creepy and I started to feel actually scared for my safety, so did the other girl who was in there at one point (she was lesbian but I strongly advised her against telling him so, as this seems to turn some men on!)
For some reason, cleaners and security guards (at work, in shopping centers, at leisure places etc.) seem to be incels and to use their job to try and find a date. This makes me want to take my business elsewhere.

Terrible back-office support and tech

Terrible back-office support and tech. I had a problem with the access code for the gym, and without the code nothing works - you can't access the gym or the showers etc. Serious issues with the app, freezing membership, unable to re-generate codes, but the real problem - no-one to speak to and poor back office support. It's a real shame as this mis-management ruins what could have been a decent customer experience. The people in the gym were great, but badly let down by the tech and support. Tech eventually responded after 5 days and said the solution was to cancel the membership and just start again. They promised to refund the money. Sadly no refund was received. Again had to follow up twice and now they want to take up to 14 days to issue a refund - when its their own SOLUTION TO THEIR OWN TECH MESS. Still waiting for a refund a week later.

The toilets are frequently out of…

The toilets are frequently out of order. Last month, without any prior notice, the drinking water service stopped working, and even the water supply for hand washing and the toilets was unavailable.

I am disabled, and unfortunately the disabled parking spaces are often used by other people because the disabled parking signs and markings are not clearly visible.

In addition, many of the lockers are often locked with personal padlocks and effectively being used privately by individuals. This means other members are unable to use them. Although these issues have been raised with gym staff several times, no effective action appears to have been taken.

Didn't honour their joining offer.

Didn't honour their joining offer.

I supported by local TGG by joining before it was even open. They had a offer of £19.99 per month for a year.

After one month of being open they cancelled my membership and said I can rejoin if I want at the usual £26.99 rate.

More generally, the access in/out of the gym is a bit wierd, the app and pin number sometimes just fail to work and you have to talk to someone on the intercom to get out.

Just give me my refund!!!

I signed up & had realised I’d put in the wrong home gym. I wasn’t allowed to change it, because there was something wrong with their system. I cancelled & re-joined and it has taking me over one month to get a refund, giving all the excuses of being verify first etc. I just want my £32,99 back, This is forcing me to cancel my current.

Should be zero

Why would anyone gym here?
Why would anyone gym here? First time I joined due to an offer — awful decision.
The facilities are awful, smelly, the equipment is old, the PT was useless, and cancelling your membership is made unnecessarily difficult. I cancelled my membership, yet they still tried to take another payment and appeared to delay the cancellation to squeeze another month’s membership out of me. You can see this on your account, which shows the failed payment under “Manage Accounts”.
Trying to take payment after I had cancelled is completely unacceptable, especially as I completed the cancellation process on the app, filled out the cancellation form online, sent an email and called them with no reply to any of these submissions. It feels like they deliberately make cancellation difficult and then try to squeeze one final payment out of customers.
This is extremely poor and underhand customer service, and I would not trust this company.
Go to PureGym instead, their prices similar, cancellation policy is clear, straightforward and easy to follow, and their app also gives you much clearer information about your membership, payments, dates, etc.
I should never have left Pure Gym, going back today despite having to travel further to get to the facilities.

I have been a member for at least 8 years. Recently I froze my account due to a recovery from an operation I was charged £6.99 to do this which I thought was ok. My next payment was for nearly £60 ( normally £28.00 monthly) I tried to get and answer but was not helped at all. So I would not recommend joining the gym at all try another one

Avoid at all cost - no support

Avoid at all cost. They have no support (no phone number to contact, emails are usually auto responded without any regard to what you're asking about) and cancellation is difficult and confusing (you have to cancel your direct debit, but get no confirmation so you aren't sure whether you're still a member).

I was with PureGym before, and cancellation was a breeze. It's the same cost as Gym Group, if you have the chance please choose them instead.

Very disappointing experience since…

Very disappointing experience since joining.
My wife and I joined the gym expecting to have the 24-hour access that we are paying for, but since joining we have been unable to access the gym independently because our PIN code and QR code simply do not work.
We have contacted customer service twice by email and have spoken to the gym manager practically every day, explaining the same problem repeatedly. Despite all of this, nothing has been done to fix the issue.
We are now being put in the position of having to come to the gym only when staff are present, which completely defeats the purpose of paying for a membership with 24-hour access. It is extremely frustrating to pay for a service and then be unable to use it because the gym cannot resolve a basic access problem.
What is even more disappointing is the lack of urgency and communication despite us repeatedly raising the issue. We should not have to keep chasing customer service and management every day for something that should have been fixed promptly.
At this point, we feel that we are paying for a service that we are not receiving. I would strongly encourage the management to take this matter seriously and resolve the access problem rather than continuing to ignore it.

Beware of this scammer

Beware of this scammer. They process subscription payments via direct debit; if you want to cancel, there is no cancellation button in the app or on their website—you have to fill out a form that they don't even respond to. Even if you disable the direct debit authorization with your bank, that won't stop the charges: they will unilaterally reconnect your card and continue stealing funds from it.

Excelente Gym

I’ve been training at The Gym Group in Fratton for about a year now, and I’m really happy with it. The gym is excellent, the equipment’s great quality, and it’s always very clean. Since the recent refurbishment, it’s got even better, especially with the new women’s area and the additional equipment. It’s genuinely a really good gym, and I’d definitely recommend it.
