Adminstrative Fee is Almost as Large as Premium Payment

My former employer switched to insurance collection services provided by WEX Health. Just received their introductory letter to establish an account. To maintain dental insurance the monthly premium is $23. Online withdrawal from checking is $23 plus an administrative fee of $20. Payment by credit card is also the same administrative fee. An automated payment system fee that is as much as the premium fee? What a scam! Instead, I am sending a check. Based on the comments here, I think I will be lucky if it gets credited to my account.

Worst company I’ve ever dealt with

Worst company I’ve ever dealt with. This company prays off vulnerable populations since they handle cobra. They will not make outbound calls to rectify their own mistakes with notifying the carriers that they’ve been paid for the premiums. Two different periods I’ve been forced to cobra through Wex and the same experience both times. This company needs to be investigated. Please employers stop using this company and subjecting people to this treatment it’s just not right. I get their probably one of the cheapest providers but no one deserves to be treated with such carelessness.

Predatory Factoring Agreement — Avoid WEX Bank

WEX Bank locked me into a sole-factor exclusivity agreement while simultaneously capping my primary customer's funding limit below my actual receivables volume. The result: I am contractually required to submit all invoices exclusively to WEX, but WEX won't fund the majority of them. My business has been without working capital for weeks, my drivers are not being paid on schedule, and WEX holds a blanket UCC lien on all my company assets preventing me from switching to a factoring company that can actually serve my volume. When I raised this structural conflict in writing, their representative responded with two-sentence replies and no meaningful engagement.
To make matters worse, WEX's representative stated in writing that the Early Termination Fee was negotiable, then reversed that position days later without explanation. For a publicly regulated Utah industrial bank to make contradictory written representations to a client in a formal dispute is unacceptable. Formal complaints have been filed with the FDIC, CFPB, and Utah Department of Financial Institutions. If you are a growing trucking company considering WEX for factoring, look elsewhere — OTR Solutions, Apex Capital, and RTS Financial all offer better terms, higher limits, and actually scale with your business.

A real pain in the fuel

I cannot express my complete surprise and amazement at WEX "holding our church hostage" by refusing to cancel our account (that we haven't used in years) while still charging us a monthly fee. The runaround is beyond ridicules and uncalled for. All we want is to cancel our account, they are requiring us to do things that we cannot do. We are not a large company; we're a small country church that's being bullied by a big company, just because they can. Shame on you WEX! Gary Jones, Pastor

I wish I could enter zero

Since I cannot enter zero, I entered the first star only.

This company makes no sense to me, and the service is horrible. They take your money for an HSA card and then limit you with its usage.

Most of the excuses they give seem to be a sham. To use the card a retailer must have some sort of health related coding built into their system. And without those health versus general retail codes, you cannot use the card for a purchase that is necessary and with a letter of medical necessity.

But they are willing to allow purchase of an item and get reimbursed for it with no requirement for letter of medical necessity or health codeas explained to me by the Customer Service representative located somewhere on the other side of the Pacific Ocean, and who actually has no idea.

So, they seem to want to abide by some sort of rule electronically with the swipe of a card, but are perfectly OK if you use your after tax personal funds to get reimbursed with your pre-tax HSA funds. It makes no sense… And the money is mine, not theirs.

I want to be able to use the card at POS. Even if that requires preapproval and sending in documentation, I want to be able to use my card to purchase something. That’s why I have the card!!

I wonder if organizations like this will be uncovered as fraud. This company benefits from HSA and FSA accounts by holding the money as long as possible, because they are making interest off of the money held. So we put our pretax money into these accounts, they make profit off of it by holding as long as possible with interest gaining, and make it nearly impossible to use the card so that the funds overall will generate income for WEX over a longer timeframe.

With many options out there STAY AWAY…

With many options out there STAY AWAY from Wex. Customer service is horrible. Your on hold for a long time waiting on a representative. Wanted to close my account and was told to email them. Sent email after email after email with no response. Continued to get billed for something I no longer wanted. Kept getting fees added to said bill. Should've listened to the horrible reviews and not taken a chance. Learned my lesson.

I have WEX administer my COBRA…

I have WEX administer my COBRA benefits. They've been nothing but a headache. Same as many others here. Useless customer service, will not put me through to a supervisor and don't return calls. Actually the last time they did return my call. My phone rang 1 time then they hung up and didn't leave a message. I received a letter from them the first week of February stating my insurance was cancelled on 12/31/25 for insufficient funds. Well, they raised rates but failed to notify me so I sent them the difference which I was told would clear it up. Not true, I thought it was corrected in early March, the useless customer service person said they corrected it. I went to my surgeon on 4/15/26 to schedule my colostomy reversal which I had to postpone for months due to WEX incompetence. His office called me the next day to let me know my insurance was not active. Tomorrow I'm contacting a lawyer. This is criminal how they're affecting people's lives and don't care one little bit.

I have never had so much trouble with…

I have never had so much trouble with an FSA account. No matter how many receipts or letter of medical necessity, or proof from my doctors office I upload the system still tells me it's not enough. Calling customer service is good for nothing more than talking in circles. Honestly I would rather pay taxes on my FSA funds than use Wex.

ZERO STARS

If I could give this business zero stars I would. I reached out to their phone line customer service about changing my password because the verifcation steps were no longer valid. I was told to email them an ID verification form and someone would get back to me in 24 hours. Keeping in mind I needed to access my account for tax purposes. I submitted my forms and did not hear from anyone for over a week. I had to reply to my own email in order to get a response. I was told that the form was to be sent to someone else. Maybe if I had received a response sooner, I could have not wasted time. I resubmitted forms to the correct email and still a week later they are "still reviewing my paperwork". LIKE WHAT???? Taxes are due today. Thank god I had my own ability to go back and find my receipts for my FSA because the utter lack of response time from anyone there is frustrating. I thank god every single day that I no longer need to deal with WEX.

Try to Deny

Denial of claim despite multiple receipts uploaded. Denial letter not available on app. Called in and WEX could not explain why, but would open a ticket. Sent to some off-shore customer service that couldn't understand my concerns.

Impossible to log in or reach someone at Wex

There have been many times when I could not log in, no matter which browser I used. The app also doesn't work. When I request a new password, I get an error message. When I call customer service, the automated system does not recognize my last 4 SSN and birth date. It's ridiculous that a large employer like Vanderbilt University Medical Center requires its employees to use this service for FSA claims.

Employers Should Avoid and Abandon Wex

Vastly inferior technology behind their benefits platform, demonstrates a lack of commitment to provide a modern, efficient service. It will not scale well. Additionally, leadership is extremely overpaid through stock awards. Employers should think twice about supporting this company.

Their processes that require full SSN over inherently insecure methods of communication (email, mail, fax) displays a level of incompetence that I haven’t seen in years. At some point, the organization may be held accountable for forcing people to follow this process due to a data breach.

If I could give no stars I would

If I could give no stars I would. This company is a rip off and scam. They approved two of my claims and then I find out later they were denied again, they wanted another receipt after I already supplied them with 3. The new reason they denied was because one showed a previous balance, then after disputing with them they realized only one showed a previous balance and that I need to send an EOB for the one balance now. Everytime I call in it’s something new they want. They just don’t want to pay out, they denied all my claims. I’ve never had them pay out even after giving them all the documentation they requested.
If you go with this company, you won’t get a dime of your money back. Avoid them at all costs.

They intentionally make it difficult…

They intentionally make it difficult for you to use your own funds via teh card and equally as difficult to get reimbursed from your own funds when you purchase an FSa item OR a service that is approved. It's clearly intentional and disgraceful.

FSA Card

I canceled my FSA card and was waiting on new card to be delivered, in the meantime my date of service came due on the 15th of april. I found out this company issued a refund onto the canceled card and noe, 4/16/26 will not allow me to use thes funds that never chould have been allowed to be refunded on a cancelled card. I tried to make a purchase on my amazon accountprior to the 15th and it was , of course denied, yet WEX did not afford me the courtesy of one day.
