Not a good experience with WIRED
Not a good experience with WIRED. The subscription service feels frustrating to use, especially when it comes to accessing content and managing the subscription. Overall, I expected much better service and value for the price.
Impossible to Cancel
Though the Wired publication is great, they get a 1 star because they make cancellation IMPOSSIBLE. I have sent around 12 emails trying to cancel, and it's impossible. First, they tell me repeatedly that they cannot locate my account (which is ridiculous because I am simultaneously getting emails from them, pay regularly, can log on, etc.), then once they do "find" my account they keep telling me I have to contact other entities to cancel (like using their Chatbot, which is a nightmare). After I FINALLY got someone to claim she had cancelled my account, they STILL keep trying to bill me and send me emails that I need to update my payments for my (very current) subscription that has not been cancelled. UGH!!! Their horrible customer support is what makes them a scam, and for a publication focused on tech their abysmal tech setup is especially shocking.
Shady Tactics
This is one of the stupidest and most aggravating things I have seen in a while. As you start to read your first article (about three or four sentences into it) before you are getting even close to starting. A sign pops up and says, "You have just read your last free article" which would be great if you were able to read the entire article, but you can't. I understand the whole tease aspect to try to get someone to subscribe so they can read the whole story. But don't tell me that I just read my last free article when I didn't, because you never let me actually see the entire article.its no surprise that they have a one star rating, and never respond to people's reviews on here. No way in hell would I subscribe to their service.
Just like everyone else is saying
Just like everyone else is saying, they make it very difficult to log in. Each time I talk to a customer service person it's a different person. They won't even consider refunding my $60 for a subscription that doesn't work for me (never lets me read full articles on my mobile even though I subscribed and signed in!) unless I spend $60 worth of my time gathering screenshots. So here I am, heaping more onto the pile of trash that, if I had read it beforehand I never would have subscribed to being with.
Useless
First article opened in ~1 year - error: "You’ve read your last free article." (couldn't even read it).
Hotel California. Check in, but never leave
Signed on for introductory price of $5 at start of 2025. Didn't really read many of the articles. Got an email to cancel auto renewal. Tried to cancel and ended up in a loop trying to log in and manage subscription. Put it on the backburner to do later. Got notice today that I was charged $80. Called to dispute. Got it down to $39. Ridiculous. Not worth 39 cents. If you want to cancel and get caught in the loop, call customer service immediately and do it that way. Otherwise you'll be stuck paying for another year. Going to dispute it through CC and hopefully resolve it that way. What a joke.
Promo price at renewal not correctly applied
On Nov 24th I opted it to a promotion to renew a digital subscription at the discounted price of $14.99.
Took photos of my screen as an evidence of both the price and the popup that confirmed that the promotion had been applied.
On the day of renewal I was charged $24.99 on PayPal. I submitted a complaint, attaching the evidence, but PayPal sided with them.
I will never, ever buy anything else from them and I'm thinking of moving out of PayPal too, in favor of other payment platforms.
Bad journalism and difficult to unsubscribe
Click-bait articles and a newsletter I didn't sign up to and couldn't unsubscribe from on my phone.
Obviously bias beyond belief
Former paying subscriber to Wired
I used to be a paying subscriber of Wired for quite a few years until I had a subscription to Apple News. I followed Wired.com on Apple News there too. Today, I decided to Google for reviews on the Hogwarts Legacy game for my little one and found out about Wired's "unbiased" review of this game. It was obvious the editors were too afraid to "snip" this person's opinion piece so I've blocked Wired from my newsfeed going forward.
For the Wired pretend game reviewer: I read the first paragraph and already knew the hole you were digging; skipped to the last paragraph, and knew it was time to cancel Wired. I originally wasn't going to buy the game for my little one, but you've changed my mind. You just gave another buck to her residuals! Do better and focus on your job as a journalist.
A complete joke of a company just saw…
A complete joke of a company just saw their review of Hogwarts legacy 1/10 by a clearly bias reviewer that had nothing to do with the game. How the hell can anyone take your reviews serious. If you weren't goanna be fair, then don't review the damn game. I hope people never let your company forget this. your company should never be taken serious as a game Journalist. I would love a response of your justification of posting such a nonsense review.
Highly unfair biased reviews
Highly unfair biased reviews, Hogwarts Legacy just dropped for free on PlayStation and on reading reviews before investing time in the game I came across the 1 out of 10 review! Absolutely disgusting, when critics fail to right a fair review based on the product and not on there personal beliefs then that’s morally wrong. I’m a few hours into the game now and there is absolutely no way did the game deserve anything less than a 7 though I can’t fully rate yet as not completed it, but by no means is 1 a fair review, I’m finished with Wired, can’t trust them again after that.
Online magazine not available
Paid a subscription for printed copies and online access starting in August. End of October and I still can't read the magazine online. Customer service is completely useless. Phoned 3 times only to hear that they couldn't fix the problem.
Wired's recent article on SimpleX was…
Wired's recent article on SimpleX was highly biased and misleading, cherry-picking information to paint privacy-focused apps as dangerous tools used by extremists. By ignoring the core purpose of encryption and anonymity — to protect human rights defenders, journalists, and everyday users — Wired's article failed to provide a balanced perspective.
SimpleX's strong privacy protocols are designed to minimize metadata collection, a crucial feature for safeguarding personal security. Instead of recognizing these benefits, Wired chose to fear-monger about encryption, disregarding how essential these tools are for millions of legitimate users. Ironically, this comes just a month after Wired encouraged readers to adopt encrypted apps!
It's disappointing to see a major publication like Wired perpetuate harmful narratives that could further justify invasive surveillance. This article was a missed opportunity to stand up for privacy rights. I expected better from them.
Hogwarts Legacy Review Disaster
I googled reviews for Hogwarts Legacy and they wrote an extremely confusing review, completely tainted by real world happenings with nothing to do with the game at all, it felt like the reviewer had some personal grudge against JK Rowling and for that reason, gave the game 1/10. I can never trust a WIRED review after that, shame on them for even publishing it. I guess any publicity is good publicity?
Never trusting a Wired Review
Hogwarts Legacy has been out for a while now but I just got the game. The game is awesome but prior to getting it I read some reviews. It had great reviews from audience and publications. There was one publication that gave it 1/5 and that was WIRED. However, if you read the review, it seems like the author never played it and just had a hatred for it from the beginning. It's obvious she just hates JK Rowling. If you see the review author's small bio/description you can already tell why she might.
I will never trust a review from Wired after this. For comparison, IGN gave the game 9/10, Metacritic gave it 84%, and PC Gamer 83%. Many other publications gave the game favourable reviews. It was really only Wired that gave it a very bad review that was definitely biased.
You won't ever be able to access it
Digital subscription is worthless. Go check out the app reviews - it won't ever let you login. WIRED steal your money and don't give you a service in return.
Worthless
I was reading Google News which had a headline about an Apple CarPlay feature. When I clicked the link, it took me to Wired.com and immediately the article was covered with a subscription demand. How am I supposed to know if their articles are valuable enough to subscribe if I cannot read any? Worthless.
It is a true shame how a good…
It is a true shame how a good publication got ruined to badly.
It absolutely impossible to cancel their subscription and their customer service is just horrible. I will never be their customer again.
Disgusting
Disgusting, biased reviews. Care more about clicks than genuine content.
